What Elden Ring Nightreign is
Nightreign is a standalone FromSoftware action survival game, not an expansion that requires the original Elden Ring. It reuses familiar elements, including weapons and enemies, but reshapes them into a run-based structure. The game is set in Limveld, a world in a parallel universe to Elden Ring.

In the launch-era overview, players take on a three-day-and-night cycle. They explore a shifting map, strengthen their characters, and fight increasingly difficult bosses before confronting a final Nightlord. Locations, enemies, and weapons can vary between runs, so a route or loadout that worked once may not be available the next time.
How co-op and solo play work
The official release information supports groups of three and single-player play. The reveal’s emphasis is on cooperation between heroes with different abilities, but playing alone is also an option. The game does not require ownership of the original Elden Ring.
Release date and platforms
ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN launched worldwide on May 30, 2025. FromSoftware’s release information lists PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam; Xbox Smart Delivery is supported. Bandai Namco’s official game page currently labels the title “Available Now.”

FromSoftware reported that more than 2 million units had shipped worldwide on release day, May 30, 2025; that figure included digital sales and Steam PC downloads. On July 24, 2025, the company reported more than 5 million units shipped worldwide as of July 2025. These are dated, company-reported shipment totals, not a current 2026 sales figure or independently audited results.
