Since then, the base game has added official two-player expeditions in patch 1.02, so you do not need a mod just to play an ordinary expedition with one friend. The mod remains an option for PC players seeking its larger lobbies and other added features, provided their game version matches the mod’s stated compatibility.
What was created—and what changed afterward?
On May 30, 2025, mod author Yui announced the Seamless Co-op (Nightreign) project. At the time, the announcement addressed the game’s lack of built-in two-player expeditions. Patch 1.02 later added official duo expeditions, with expedition balance adjusted according to the number of players, as reported by GamesRadar on July 31, 2025.

The mod is therefore not required for a standard two-person expedition. Its project page describes additional options, including lobbies for one to six players and customizable enemy scaling. Yui calls the mod “feature complete”; that is the author’s description, not an independent assessment.
Does Nightreign have an official duo mode now?
Yes. Patch 1.02 added official two-player expeditions. Choose the built-in mode if you and one friend simply want to play an expedition together without the mod’s additional features or setup. Bandai Namco’s product information, dated July 24, 2025, lists three players and single-player support; that listing reflects the product details at that date, while the later patch report documents the duo addition.

Is the mod compatible with your Nightreign version?
The project page’s latest listed entry is version 1.13, marked compatible with game version 1.03.3. That entry does not establish compatibility with later game updates. Check the current Nexus page and file details against your installed game version immediately before installing. The page also records earlier compatibility notes for the Forsaken Hollows DLC, but those do not supersede the version listed in the latest entry.
The page says the mod supports one to six players in its current feature description. Older changelog entries mention a temporary three-player limit during maintenance; do not treat that older entry as the current limit. For any version mismatch or uncertainty, use the project page’s latest compatibility information rather than assuming the mod will work.

How do I install the Nightreign Seamless Co-op mod?
The following steps reflect the mod author’s instructions on the Nexus project page. They apply to the PC/Steam installation, not the console editions.
- Open the mod’s Files area on Nexus and download the mod package.
- Extract the downloaded files into your Nightreign game folder. The project page provides a typical Steam installation path; use the folder containing your game installation.
- Run
nrsc_launcher.exeto start the modded game. - Stay signed into Steam and online. Do not launch Steam in offline mode.
- Invite friends through Steam. Every participant needs matching game and mod versions.
The page says no other mod is required. To return to the non-modded game, launch the game normally rather than through the mod launcher. To remove the mod, delete the files downloaded for it, following the page’s directions.

What are the important limitations?
Server-controlled modes
The mod page says Everdark bosses and Endless Night are controlled by FromSoftware matchmaking servers. Because mod users do not connect to those servers, the page describes temporary workarounds that depend on GitHub; the author warns that these features will fail if GitHub is blocked.
Other mods
The page says Easy Anti-Cheat is not running when using the mod, but also says specific compatibility with other mods has not been tested. That is not a guarantee that arbitrary combinations of mods will work safely or correctly.
Multiplayer and saves
Yui says the mod prevents connections to FromSoftware matchmaking servers and uses separate saves, and the author claims this prevents bans under ordinary use. These are the mod author’s claims, not a guarantee from FromSoftware or Bandai Namco. The mod page is the place to check its current explanation and instructions.
