After defeating Morgott, approach the sealed Erdtree entrance, then rest at the Elden Throne Site of Grace. Melina’s next conversation gives you the Rold Medallion. Take the capital’s northeast route through the Forbidden Lands to the Grand Lift of Rold, use the medallion, and continue into the Mountaintops of the Giants. Your next major story destination there is the Forge of the Giants.
Trigger the next step at the Erdtree
- Leave Morgott’s arena and approach the blocked entrance to the Erdtree. Interact with or approach the sealed entrance.
- Rest at the Elden Throne Site of Grace. This is where guides place Melina’s next conversation and the Rold Medallion handoff. If she does not appear, exhaust any available dialogue and check the grace again.
- Accept the Rold Medallion from Melina. You need it to operate the Grand Lift of Rold.
The sequence is detailed in the GameFAQs walkthrough and the Joking Joystick campaign walkthrough. These are secondary guides; the available sources do not provide an official FromSoftware walkthrough for this trigger.

Reach the Mountaintops of the Giants
From Leyndell, take the northeast exit through the Forbidden Lands to the Grand Lift of Rold. Use the Rold Medallion at the lift to reach the Mountaintops of the Giants. The route and destination are also covered by Game8’s region guide and its Mountaintops guide.
Once there, explore the region and make your way toward the Forge of the Giants. Arriving in the Mountaintops is not the same as making the later Forge decision: the Forge interaction is associated with burning the Erdtree and changing Leyndell’s state.
#1 Best Overall
- Collaborating with George R.R. Martin to create the ELDEN RING mythos has been a genuinely delightful experience and a source of wonderful inspiration. The team is working hard to ensure that the world of ELDEN RING will be a fascinating place for players to explore, filled with peril and wonder from its furthest reaches to its lowest depths. This is a FromSoftware title through and through, rich in fantasy and RPG action. We sincerely hope you look forward to it.
- Building the world of ELDEN RING with Miyazaki-san and his team was a treat! The graphics, mythos, and action-RPG gameplay will deliver an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait for people to see what ELDEN RING has in store for them.” Said George R.R. Martin.
Decide when you are ready to use the Forge
If you have optional quests, collectibles, or personal exploration goals in Leyndell, consider reviewing them before interacting with the Forge. The cited sources do not establish that every side quest closes at one shared point, or that defeating Morgott by itself permanently locks you out of optional content. They do associate the later Forge event with the Erdtree burning and Leyndell’s changed state; see the Mountaintops of the Giants guide and Xbox Wire’s Shadow of the Erdtree access guide.

No guide is required to follow this route: the Rold Medallion and Grand Lift are the next story progression. A printed reference can be useful for broader coverage, but it is optional. Bandai Namco’s European store lists ELDEN RING Books of Knowledge, Volume II, a Future Press guide focused on creatures and armaments; the surfaced listing showed it out of stock, and availability can change.
