If Elden Ring will not open or keeps closing to the dashboard on Xbox Series X|S, first check whether other games and Xbox features work. Then install any available game update and restart the console. If the problem is limited to Elden Ring and persists, contact Bandai Namco with the exact error or a description of when the failure occurs.
First, identify where startup fails
Note what happens when you launch the game: does it never open, freeze during startup, close back to the dashboard, or display an error? Record the exact error text or code and when it appears. The official sources available do not establish a specific error-to-cause diagnosis for this symptom.

- Only Elden Ring fails: Check for a game update and restart the console. If it still will not launch, use Bandai Namco support.
- Other games or Xbox features also fail: Check Xbox service status and contact Xbox support if needed.

Check for an Elden Ring update
- In your Xbox library, select Elden Ring.
- Open Manage Games and Add-ons.
- Choose an available update and let it install before trying to launch the game again.
Bandai Namco’s Version 1.02 patch notes document this Xbox update route. The notes also said that previously reported Xbox online problems, including “Network Status Check Failed,” should be fixed by that update. That statement concerns those historical online issues; it does not establish the cause of a current launch failure.
The official Elden Ring update announcement dated September 8, 2026 lists Xbox Series X|S among the supported platforms. Check what your console offers rather than assuming a particular version number is current.

Restart the console and try again
After checking for updates, restart or power-cycle the Xbox using the current instructions in Xbox’s official restart and power-cycle guide. Then try launching Elden Ring again. The support page is the right place to follow the current procedure; avoid relying on an unverified button sequence.
If the problem continues
If other games and Xbox features work, but Elden Ring still will not launch after the update and restart checks, contact Bandai Namco support for Elden Ring. Include your console model, the exact error text or code, and whether the game fails before opening, freezes, or returns to the dashboard.

Do not begin by deleting local save data or factory-resetting the console. The official guidance reviewed does not establish either as a general fix for this symptom. If support later recommends a save-related step, follow current Xbox instructions and consider cloud synchronization before proceeding.

No dedicated official Xbox Series X|S launch-error guide was identified, and the available official information does not support promising that cache clearing, reinstalling, changing storage, or replacing hardware will solve this problem. Use the observed scope and symptom to choose the right support route rather than guessing at a cause.
