Bandai Namco’s access guide gives no character-level gate: you must defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then interact with the arm hanging from Miquella’s cocoon. Once inside, Realm of Shadow blessings provide a separate way to improve your effectiveness.
Recommended level for Shadow of the Erdtree
Windows Central’s Brendan Lowry recommended entering at at least level 125, ideally level 150, and said he completed his run at level 150. Lowry also advised having at least 50 Vigor, with 60 as an optional higher target. These are one writer’s general recommendations, not FromSoftware or Bandai Namco requirements or a guarantee of difficulty.

Your build, skill, use of spirit summons, New Game cycle, and multiplayer goals can all affect how ready you feel. The cited recommendation does not establish separate level targets for those cases. If you want one number to aim for, level 150 is the clearer target; if you enter at 125 or nearby, be prepared to use the expansion’s own progression systems and explore when a fight proves difficult.
What level is required to enter the DLC?
Bandai Namco’s June 21, 2024 access guide identifies two prerequisites: defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood. After defeating Mohg, interact with the arm hanging from Miquella’s cocoon in Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum to travel to the Realm of Shadow. Those boss requirements mean you will have progressed through substantial parts of the base game, but they do not translate into an official recommended level. Access and readiness are different questions.
Why rune level is only part of your readiness
Shadow of the Erdtree has two Realm-specific blessing systems. Scadutree Blessing increases your character’s attack power and damage negation in the Realm of Shadow. Revered Spirit Ash Blessing improves the offensive and defensive abilities of summoned spirits and Torrent. Bandai Namco says both can be active at once, and their effects stop when you return to the Lands Between. That gives you two different kinds of progression to consider: rune levels develop your character, while blessings strengthen you or your spirit support specifically in the DLC’s areas. A high character level does not make the blessing system irrelevant.

What to do if the DLC feels too difficult
- Explore before pushing through a wall. Bandai Namco advises players who are struggling to explore and look for blessing items. Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes are found throughout the Realm of Shadow, including at churches and on corpses; some enemies may drop them.
- Spend the items at a Site of Grace. Open the Site of Grace menu and apply the available blessing items. Scadutree Fragments improve your character’s attack and damage negation; Revered Spirit Ashes strengthen summoned spirits and Torrent.
- Choose support that fits your approach. If you use spirit summons, Revered Spirit Ash Blessing supports them as well as Torrent. The two blessing types work together, so you do not need to choose one system over the other.

How to interpret older level and balance advice
Lowry’s level and Vigor targets were published on June 19, 2024. Treat them as useful editorial guidance rather than a current official rule or a universal threshold. Likewise, Bandai Namco’s Calibration Update 1.12.2 notes, dated June 24, 2024, say Scadutree Blessing scaling was revised: enhancements in the first half of the range gained more attack and damage negation, while the second half became more gradual, with a slight increase at the final enhancement level.
