When a blue glow appears on the ground, move away immediately: it marks an impending lightning strike, and jumping will not get you clear of its ground-level strike radius. Electromagnetic Storm also disrupts ARC, adds crashed Probe and Courier loot opportunities, and reduces extraction options—so plan a route out before you start looting.
What changes during an Electromagnetic Storm?
Electromagnetic Storm is a map condition with frequent lightning strikes and effects on ARC machines. Its main trade-off is a chance to find more crashed Probes and Couriers, alongside greater exposure to strikes and fewer ways to extract. The event reference also labels loot value as increased, but the available sources do not establish a multiplier or guarantee higher-quality items. A community overview reports disagreement about the size of any loot-quality improvement.
The event’s schedule is not universal. A community map-conditions page updated 27 September 2026 listed the condition on all maps in its August 2026 rotation summary and notes that conditions rotate independently, with regional offsets made official in Live Update 1.42.0 on 18 August 2026. Check the map-conditions reference for schedule context; availability can vary by region and change over time.
How to avoid lightning strikes
- Watch the ground. A blue glow marks the location of a coming strike.
- Move clear of the glow. Strike damage depends on distance from the strike center, so create distance promptly rather than waiting for the impact.
- Do not rely on jumping. The strike radius extends upward from the ground, so jumping does not avoid it.
A lightning hit damages and briefly stuns a Raider. The event reference does not give a fixed damage value or a universal safe distance, so treat the warning as a cue to leave the marked area rather than trying to calculate a precise escape radius.

What lightning does to ARC
Lightning can change the threat picture, but it is not a guarantee that an encounter is safe. Small ARC machines may be destroyed by a strike. Larger machines may be temporarily disabled, with a visible static effect.
- Bastion: The event reference says a grounded Bastion can be approached while disabled. Check for nearby ARC and other Raiders before using that opening.
- Rocketeer: A flying Rocketeer hit by lightning falls from the sky. Do not assume the surrounding area is clear after it drops.
Nearby enemies, other Raiders, and limited extraction choices still matter while you exploit a disruption.
What loot can you find, and is the risk worthwhile?
Electromagnetic Storm runs can produce more crashed Probes and Couriers than ordinary conditions, creating an opportunity to gather loot. The sources do not quantify an exact loot bonus, guarantee item quality, or provide a probability for the event-specific collectible.

Fossilized Lightning
Fossilized Lightning may appear at a strike location. The event reference describes it as root-like with a subtle orange glow; it can be salvaged or recycled into Explosive Compound. Its drop chance is not stated.

A cautious looting route
- Identify your intended extraction route before detouring to a crash site.
- Leave a blue-glow strike area immediately; do not stop to loot while the warning is active.
- Use a temporarily disabled ARC machine as an opening only after checking for nearby threats.
- Keep the value of the extra Probe or Courier loot in perspective: its quantity and quality are not guaranteed by a stated multiplier.
Extraction is more restrictive
The event reference lists fewer active Return Points and no active Raider Hatches. That makes a long looting detour riskier than it would be with more extraction options. Check which Return Points are active on your map and leave enough time to reach one; do not build a plan around a Raider Hatch during this condition.

Yes. The Search ARC Probes, Couriers and Assessors Trial awards 285.8 points per searched section, and its three-star threshold is 3,000 points. The storm-specific guidance says each Probe and Courier found during the condition has one section, so searching multiple storm-crashed targets can contribute directly to that Trial.

The Trial reference describes this as a potentially fast route to three stars, not a guaranteed fastest strategy for every run. The point values and threshold come from the ARC Raiders Wiki’s Trial references; seasonal and weekly Trial availability can change. Check the current Trial listing in-game before choosing a run around it.
Why can the storm feel different between updates?
Lightning frequency has been adjusted. The ARC Raiders Wiki’s reference to Update 1.19.0, released 10 March 2026, reproduces Embark Studios’ patch-note statement: “Fixed an issue where Electromagnetic Storm lighting would appear too frequently.” That note documents a fix, not a promise about a particular strike rate in every later version.
