Electronic Gaming Monthly Compendium Raises $1.79 Million on Kickstarter

The Electronic Gaming Monthly Compendium Kickstarter raised $1,794,783 from 21,947 backers, far above its $35,000 goal. It passed that goal on its first day, but the project is not confirmed as shipping: in an October 1, 2026 update, its creator said printing had stopped after the printer raised the agreed price and did not provide a replacement delivery date.

How much did the EGM Compendium raise?

The campaign ran from October 15 to November 14, 2024, and closed with $1,794,783 pledged against a $35,000 goal from 21,947 backers, according to the Kickstarter campaign page. GamesBeat reported on launch day that the goal had been exceeded within hours; Time Extension reported on October 17 that it was surpassed within 24 hours. Those reports establish the day-one milestone, while the campaign page gives the final totals.

The result shows the scale of support for this particular campaign. It should not be treated as a measure of demand for retro-gaming books as a whole.

What is the Electronic Gaming Monthly Compendium?

The project combines a physical retrospective book about Electronic Gaming Monthly with a planned digital archive of the magazine’s issues. GamesBeat described the book as covering stories from EGM’s 25-year history through interviews, historical background, features, and material about the magazine itself. At launch, the creators said the archive was intended to make back issues readable and searchable; that description is a project plan, not confirmation that a complete archive is available now.

Co-author Mollie L. Patterson described the preservation goal to GamesBeat: “As someone who read Electronic Gaming Monthly at its beginning and worked for it at its end, I feel honored to be able to help preserve its 25 years of history and heritage in this new book project.”

Book format and campaign extras

The creator’s 2024 FAQ describes the physical book as 9 × 12 inches and calls the Kickstarter version an exclusive first edition. It said copies might later be sold through other retailers, but did not establish that retail sales are currently available. The FAQ is available in the creator’s BackerKit FAQ.

A June 11, 2026 creator update also discusses a separately unlocked print issue, EGM #265, including its redesign and contents. The creator said backers who purchased a physical Compendium copy would receive that issue with the book. This is campaign-reward information, not evidence that EGM #265 is independently on sale now.

Is the EGM Compendium shipping now?

Not according to the latest creator update in the available project record. On October 1, 2026, the creator said an advance had been paid to the printer and a production schedule received, but the printer later raised the agreed price. Printing stopped while the team looked into alternatives. The update acknowledged delays and did not state a new confirmed shipping date.

The same update said the creator was preparing extra books and rewards to address possible shipping defects. That describes a planned precaution; it does not verify that fulfillment has begun. The creator said it hoped to provide another update about EGM #265 and future plans in the following week or two, but that intention is not a delivery schedule. Check the creator’s BackerKit project updates for later status before making plans around delivery.

Can you buy the book outside Kickstarter?

The campaign is over, and the available sources do not confirm a live retail listing, current inventory, or an active creator-direct sales option. The creator’s 2024 FAQ said other retailers might carry copies later, which is a possibility rather than a verified sales route. Given the production stoppage described in October 2026, do not assume the hardcover is currently available just because the campaign succeeded.

The Kickstarter page documents the completed campaign; it does not establish that a current purchase can be made. The sources also do not verify that access to the planned digital archive is currently available or included with a present-day purchase.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
