Check what is holding back your next research unlock or upgrade, keep research and province exploration moving, and plan buildings around your current chapter, production needs, and available space.
Start with the resource your next goal needs
Before adding another production building, identify the resource limiting the next research unlock or building upgrade you actually want. Elvenar’s official game page describes city development as a mix of economic growth, research, exploration, trade, and combat. That makes the immediate question practical: which shortfall is stopping your next step?
- Choose a near-term goal, such as a research unlock or an upgrade that supports your city.
- Check its requirements and compare them with what your city currently produces.
- Prioritize the bottleneck rather than expanding every production line at once.
Adding buildings without checking that constraint can increase pressure on city space without moving the goal forward. The right balance changes as your city and chapter change.
Keep research connected to city needs
Research unlocks technologies and new options, so choose it in light of what your city needs next rather than treating one build order as universally correct. The official Elvenar game page presents technology discovery as a core part of development. A wiki search result also describes a production boost tied to unlocking research and collecting the corresponding relics; verify its current requirements in-game because that reference could not be checked directly.

Think of research, production, and exploration as connected: research can open options, while exploration can provide relics associated with production boosts. The official game page puts the specialization choice this way: “Every type of Relic can boost the production of a certain good – which ones will you specialize in?” Use that as a reminder to weigh your current needs, not as a reason to pursue every good equally.
Explore provinces for rewards and room to grow
The world map is more than a combat route. The official game page says each province has eight encounters, and describes negotiation or fighting as ways to pursue rewards including relics. A third-party game reference associates completing province encounters with expansion, but check the live game for the requirements that apply to your city.

Approach each encounter according to its available options and your goals. The cited material does not establish that negotiation is always cheaper, that combat is always better, or that every encounter has the same cost. Explore as your economy and army allow, and factor the potential rewards and expansion into your planning.
Plan city space around the current chapter
City layouts are constrained by more than building count. Consider building footprints, street connections, chapter-specific requirements, and the production value of the space each building occupies. The Main Hall is described in an indexed wiki result as central storage, with many buildings requiring street connections to function; because the page could not be opened, confirm these details and each building’s live requirements in-game.

For layout planning, iDavis’s Elvenar tools include a City Planner and chapter-specific building data. The site’s update log says Chapter 25 data was regenerated on June 1, 2026, and lists interactive research trees and cost calculators for guest races. It is a third-party planning resource, not an official game tool, and its update date does not guarantee every value is current.
- Check live building sizes, requirements, and street connections in your game.
- Use the planner to test whether a proposed layout fits your current chapter and priorities.
- Compare the layout’s space use with the bottleneck you identified, then confirm costs and requirements in-game before rebuilding.
Choose combat when it serves your broader plan
Elvenar offers animated battles alongside trading and production, but the available evidence does not establish current unit matchups, combat formulas, or a chapter-by-chapter army prescription. Treat combat as one route through the game, not a universal priority. Weigh it against your production needs, research progress, and province goals, and use the options presented by the current encounter rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all troop rule.

Adapt the strategy as your city changes
A layout that suits one chapter, race, or resource balance may not suit another. Revisit your priorities when a new research requirement, building footprint, or production shortfall changes what your city needs. The useful comparison is not simply which layout looks compact; it is whether its street connections and occupied space support the current objective.
