Some developers who grew up playing Roblox have turned their familiarity with its tools and audience into professional game-making work. Dean Takahashi’s GamesBeat feature, published December 1, 2023 and updated June 18, 2025, profiles creators behind experiences including Frontlines, Strongman Simulator, Emergency Response: Liberty County and Mermaid Life. Their paths show that Roblox can support game-design, scripting, art, studio-management and collaboration work. They do not show that a Roblox career is easy or likely: Takahashi cautions against assuming it is easier to get a Roblox studio job than a position in traditional AAA development.
What the featured developers have in common—and what they don’t
The profiles are individual stories, not a representative survey of Roblox careers. The creators featured by GamesBeat include Clarence Maximillian and his studio, creators associated with The Gang and Strongman Simulator, Shawn Edouard of Emergency Response: Liberty County, and Anne Shoemaker of Fullflower Studio, known for Mermaid Life and My Droplets. Their work illustrates different routes into making games on the platform, rather than a single career ladder.
Roblox is both a place to play games and an ecosystem for creating them. Long experience with its audience and tools can help a creator understand what players respond to, but that familiarity is not a guarantee of a viable business. The GamesBeat article’s reported team sizes, audience counts, sales and career decisions belong to the people and projects it covers; they should not be read as typical outcomes or independently audited industry benchmarks. Roblox creation can mean more than scripting
The profiles show a range of work involved in building experiences and businesses. Depending on the project, creators may focus on designing gameplay, writing scripts, making art or avatar assets, coordinating a studio, or working with brands. A solo creator’s day-to-day work can differ sharply from that of someone contributing to a larger team.

These roles can build skills that matter beyond Roblox, such as design, programming, visual production and team coordination. At the same time, knowledge of Roblox’s particular tools, audience and platform conventions is a distinct advantage that may not transfer automatically to another studio or engine.
Platform scale is not the same as an individual opportunity
Roblox’s audience helps explain why creators pursue the platform, but activity figures describe the platform as a whole, not the prospects of a new developer. GamesBeat reported that Roblox had 70.2 million daily active users, 16 billion hours engaged, $11.96 average spending and $839.5 million in bookings in Q3 2023. Those are historical quarterly figures, not current metrics. Roblox later reported 111.8 million average daily active users and 27.4 billion hours engaged in Q2 2025.

The dates and measures matter: bookings are not creator income, and platform-wide engagement does not tell an aspiring developer how many players a new experience will attract. Roblox’s Q2 2025 results are a dated company report, not a forecast for an individual project.
What Roblox’s DevEx figures say about creator earnings
Roblox reported that more than $1 billion flowed through its Developer Exchange (DevEx) in the 12 months ending June 30, 2025. It also reported more than 29,000 DevEx creators and median earnings of $1,440 among DevEx participants over that period. The median is a useful counterweight to the headline total: it describes the middle of a selected group of people who participated in DevEx, not all Roblox users or everyone who creates on the platform.

Roblox also reported nearly $1 million in average revenue for its top 1,000 developers. That figure describes a highly selected upper tier and is not a reasonable estimate of what a typical creator will earn. Taken together, the company’s figures show both substantial payouts at the top and uneven results across DevEx participants; they do not establish the odds that a beginner will earn a living from Roblox development. Roblox’s September 5, 2025 announcement also said it was increasing the DevEx rate by 8.5%. Because conversion rates and eligibility can change, check Roblox’s current DevEx terms before making a payout plan.
Tools can lower friction, not remove the work
Roblox described Assistant in September 2023 as a conversational AI tool intended to help creators learn, code and build in Studio. The company said it could help with repetitive tasks, leaving creators more time for higher-value work such as narrative, gameplay and experience design. That is Roblox’s description of its tool at the time, not an independent evaluation of its effectiveness or a guarantee of current feature availability.

In its announcement, Roblox offered “How do I build a game where the floor is lava?” as an example of a question creators could ask Assistant. A beginner can use questions like that to explore a concept, but turning an idea into a playable, polished experience still requires decisions about design, implementation and iteration. - Choose a craft to develop. Decide whether you are most interested in scripting and game systems, design, art and assets, or working with a team.
- Learn the platform as well as the craft. Roblox-specific audience knowledge can matter alongside transferable game-development skills.
- Distinguish a project from a business. Building an experience is not the same as attracting and retaining players or generating dependable income.
- Keep expectations grounded. Featured creators and top-earning developers are selected examples; neither profiles nor aggregate payout totals establish a typical career outcome.
Roblox’s creator stories show that game-making careers can emerge from the platform, including for people who learned its culture as players. They also point to a more realistic conclusion: success depends on a mix of creative and technical work, audience understanding and uncertain business results—not merely on joining Roblox or having an idea.
