You do not have to delete or replace your existing Enshrouded world to play the 1.0 adventure content. Keen Games says Early Access saves remain usable after release and are converted to the new save format. Keep the established world if you want your bases, character progress and unlocked regions; create a separate world if you want the redesigned Cindervault opening, revised tutorials and new early-game pacing from the beginning. Adventure Sharing is a separate menu for visiting or publishing community worlds, not a replacement for your personal save.
Do I have to start over in Enshrouded 1.0?
No. Keen Games’ October 13, 2026 launch FAQ says, “You can absolutely use Early Access saves once the game releases in 1.0.” The game converts older saves to a new, more efficient format, and the migration process backs up existing data. Starting over is strongly encouraged because the opening hours and early progression were substantially improved, but it is a recommendation rather than a requirement.

The practical solution is to keep your old world and make a second personal world for a fresh run. That preserves your long-term building project while letting you see the revised introduction in the order the designers intended.
Should I continue my old world or create a new one?
Choose based on what you want from the update. Both routes can reach the expanded world, but only a new world gives you the redesigned early game from its first quest.

Think of the choice as one of sequence and preservation, not access. The continuing world is the fastest route to the new northern region for a developed character. The new world is the most complete way to experience the revised first hours. Neither choice is a one-way commitment: leaving the original save intact lets you switch between campaigns.

How do I keep my old save while starting a fresh world?
- Leave the established world untouched. Do not delete it, overwrite it or replace its files while creating the new world.
- Check the storage tab in world selection. The 1.0 interface distinguishes local-save data from the Steam Cloud folder. If your expected character or world is missing, check the other tab before creating or modifying anything.
- Load the old world once. Saves made with version 0.8 or earlier are migrated automatically when detected by the new version. Existing data is backed up during that migration.
- Prepare your returning character. The first load after the relevant update resets the skill tree and refunds skill points. Rebuild the tree before leaving your base.
- Inspect converted equipment. Existing armor, shields, wards, rings, pickaxes and wood-cutting axes are converted into upgradable versions. Check favorite loadouts and make sure the upgraded items are equipped as intended.
- Create a second personal world. Give it a clear name such as “1.0 Fresh Start” so it cannot be confused with the established save.
- Use the new world for the opening. Play through the revised tutorials, early resources and first levels there, while retaining the original world as your developed campaign and building archive.
This workflow is a cautious way to avoid accidental replacement. Keen Games confirms that restarting is encouraged, but its official material does not require deleting an old world.
What happens when an Early Access save is migrated?
The save is converted to the new format when the game detects a world created with version 0.8 or earlier. The migration includes a backup of the existing data, so the conversion is not intended to erase the original world. You should still avoid manual file moves or replacements until you understand where your platform stores local and cloud data.
The most visible returning-player change is the one-time skill reset. Your refunded points are not lost; they must simply be assigned again. Equipment also changes to the new upgrade model, so a familiar item may need inspection before it performs the role you expect.
For Steam users, the selection screen’s local and Steam Cloud tabs matter. A world can appear absent when it is stored in the other location. Check both tabs before assuming that migration failed or starting a replacement world.
Migration is tied to the save being detected by the new version, so do not interrupt the first load unnecessarily. Let the conversion finish, verify that the world opens, and only then begin reorganizing characters or equipment. If you maintain several worlds, check each one deliberately rather than assuming every save is stored in the same location.
Will the new biome and quests appear in my existing world?
Yes. The 1.0 changelog says the full world is accessible, including the new Cinder’s Cradle biome in the northern part of the map and expanded areas along the borders of previous biomes. Continuing players can reach the new quests, points of interest and previously restricted spaces without abandoning their established world.

The important difference is order, not access. A developed character may reach these areas quickly, while a new character encounters them after progressing through the revised introduction and early quests.
That distinction matters for builders and explorers. In the old world, existing gear and unlocked routes can let you approach the new content immediately, and newly available spaces may be useful for expanding a large settlement. In a fresh world, the same areas arrive after the Cindervault opening and the early resource loop have taught you the updated systems.

A new world presents the redesigned beginning instead of dropping you into it with an established character. Update 8 reworked the area around the Cindervault, adjusted tutorials, increased the availability of resources needed for early crafting and settlement building, and rebalanced the experience required for the first few levels.
That makes a fresh world especially useful when:
- You want to understand the revised tutorials without already knowing the systems.
- You want early crafting and settlement decisions to follow the new resource economy.
- You are introducing friends to the game and want everyone to learn together.
- You want to evaluate the new progression without changing the state of a valuable building world.
A fresh world does not provide a separate version of the 1.0 map. It is another personal save using the same expanded game, but with the opening sequence and progression rebuilt from the start.
For returning players, the clean start also provides a controlled comparison. You can see how quickly the revised tutorials introduce crafting, settlement work and early combat, then return to the established world without having altered its construction or story state. Name the world clearly and tell multiplayer partners which save is the established campaign before anyone joins.
How should returning players prepare before adventuring?

Do not treat the refunded skill points as a cosmetic change. A character loaded with an empty tree may have different survivability, damage or utility until the points are assigned. Recheck the build before a difficult expedition, especially if you normally rely on a specific weapon or movement ability. The same caution applies to converted equipment: compare the new upgradable versions with what is currently in your hotbar and storage rather than assuming the old arrangement is unchanged.
Is Adventure Sharing the same as making a new world?
No. Adventure Sharing is a separate main-menu area for publishing and exploring community worlds. It does not replace your personal save and is not required to access the 1.0 content.
In Adventure Sharing, you can upload a local version of Embervale with its constructions and adventures, then add a name, tags, description and preview screenshots. Other players can browse, search, filter, upvote, subscribe to, download or visit shared creations. The uploader can set a Flame Altar as the starting point for visitors.
Use it when you want to experiment with another player’s design or publish a showcase of your own. Keep downloaded or visited worlds conceptually separate from your main campaign: they are for shared-world exploration, while a new personal world is the cleanest way to experience the revised opening.
Keen Games describes the first version of Adventure Sharing as the beginning of a larger system, with future expansion planned for interactive logic, puzzles, enemy spawning and traps. Those planned features do not change how your existing save or a normal new world works.
A practical sharing routine is to finish and check a local copy first, choose a recognizable title, add useful tags and select preview screenshots that show what visitors will find. Set the Flame Altar deliberately because it determines the starting point for visitors. Downloading or visiting a creation should be treated as a separate activity; it is not a method for merging another player’s construction or progression into your established campaign.
What is the safest workflow for a multiplayer group?
An established group should normally continue its current world if its bases, shared storage and character progression are important. Load it after migration, rebuild each returning character’s skills and inspect converted gear before travelling together. The expanded biome, quests and opened areas will still be available.

A group that is starting together, or one that wants to learn the revised tutorials at the same pace, should create a new shared world. Agree in advance which player owns or hosts the save, decide whether local or cloud storage is being used, and name the world clearly. Keep the old group world untouched so members can return to it later.
For a dedicated server, make a host-specific backup before changing world files or switching versions. The official launch material confirms save compatibility but does not publish one universal backup sequence for every server provider.
There is no requirement to purchase a second PC copy simply because you are moving from Early Access to 1.0. Keen Games’ launch FAQ states that owners of the Early Access version do not need to buy the PC version again. Optional server-hosting or automated backup services may help groups that run dedicated worlds, but they are infrastructure choices, not prerequisites for starting the new adventure content.

Should I back up before changing anything?
The migration process backs up existing data, but the official materials do not provide one universal, button-by-button backup procedure for every PC setup, Steam Cloud configuration or dedicated-server host. That means the safest general rule is to preserve the established world and use the backup method documented for your specific platform or host before manually moving files, replacing a server world or changing storage arrangements.
For a normal personal setup, first identify whether the world is local or in Steam Cloud, then avoid deleting either copy while you test the new version. For a hosted world, ask the provider how to create and restore a world backup before switching versions. Do not assume that instructions for a local PC save apply to a dedicated server.
What should you choose if you only have time for one run?
Continue the existing world if your priority is reaching Cinder’s Cradle, the new quests and the opened areas with a developed character, or if your base represents a substantial building project. You will still receive the expanded 1.0 world, including the 12 Shroud Roots in Cinder’s Cradle and six more in the expanded edge areas.
Choose a new world if seeing the Cindervault redesign, revised tutorials, early resource availability and new first-level XP pacing is more important than preserving your current route. The restart is encouraged because those improvements are designed to be experienced in sequence, but it remains optional.

Bottom line: what should you do first?
Keep your established world. Load it once so migration can complete, check the local and Steam Cloud tabs, rebuild the refunded skill tree and inspect converted equipment. Then create a separate personal world if you want the Cindervault redesign, revised tutorials and new early-game pacing from the beginning. Continue the old world for its builds and progression; use Adventure Sharing only when you want to visit or publish community creations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play the new Enshrouded biome with my old character?
Yes. The expanded map is available in a continuing world, so an established character can travel to Cinder’s Cradle and the newly opened edge areas. Your route and difficulty will differ from a new character’s progression.
Does creating a second Enshrouded world delete my first one?
No. Worlds are separate saves. Give the new world a distinct name and avoid deleting or overwriting files from the established world.
Why can’t I see my Enshrouded save after the update?
