For Enshrouded 1.0 on PC, the best starting point is the game’s updated automatically selected graphics preset, followed by scene-based adjustments rather than a universal “low” profile. Keep your monitor’s intended resolution; on a supported NVIDIA system, DLSS Quality is a sensible image-quality-first experiment. Then compare an open vista, a Shroud-heavy area and a fight, changing one control at a time. The detailed mix below is editorial guidance based on a community configuration, not a Keen Games preset or a controlled benchmark. Version 1.0 released on October 15, 2026, and changed lighting, atmosphere and distant-world rendering, so older early-access advice can discard detail without proving a performance gain.

At a glance

Name Best for Key spec Platforms Checked
Updated automatic preset Everyone’s baseline Game-selected 1.0 graphics profile PC Oct 2026
Quality-first NVIDIA setup Clearer image while seeking smoother play Native display resolution; DLSS Quality if the current menu and GPU support it PC with supported NVIDIA GPU Oct 2026
Scene-based fallback A system that still misses its smoothness target Lower one expensive-looking setting or use an available upscaling/render-scale option PC Oct 2026
Combat-comfort setup More controllable aiming and camera movement Target-selection options, aim assists, wand free aim and reduced camera inertia PC; controller or mouse-and-keyboard options vary Oct 2026

Short answer: start with the automatic preset, validate it in the places where you actually play, and tune visuals and controls separately. There is no published universal best preset or official per-setting FPS result.

What changed in Enshrouded 1.0, and why does it affect settings?

These recommendations apply to the October 15, 2026 1.0 release, not an unchanged early-access build. Keen Games’ 1.0 notes describe brick rendering for more detailed distant terrain and buildings, biome-specific atmosphere, height fog, lighting changes and HDR calibration on compatible displays (Keen Games’ 1.0 changelog). Those changes make distant detail and atmospheric settings part of the game’s intended look, not merely disposable effects.

The same notes say the performance impact of point-light shadows was drastically reduced, especially in bases with many lights. A blanket rule to minimize point-light shadows or distant detail is therefore obsolete: it may remove visible quality without an established gain. Keen Games still acknowledges that distant shadow flicker can remain at Performance graphics settings, so lowering the preset is not a guaranteed cure.

What should I set first?

Use the following as a starting hypothesis, not a measured optimum. Apply it only after recording what the automatic preset selected and confirming that every option exists under your current 1.0 build.

Keep resolution native

Retain the monitor’s intended display resolution first. Changing resolution changes image clarity and can conceal whether a particular effect is the real bottleneck. If the game offers an upscaler or render-scale control in your menu, treat that as a separate experiment after the baseline.

Image-quality-first NVIDIA trial

On a supported NVIDIA setup, try DLSS Quality. Do not present DLSS as an AMD or Intel setting, and do not assume that a particular upscaler, frame-generation feature or menu label is available on another GPU. Use the options actually shown by your installation.

Balanced community mix

A community-published configuration lists this combination: Shadows Quality; Contact Shadows On; Point Light Shadows Ultra Quality; Indirect Lighting Balanced; SSAO Balanced; Reflections Balanced; Water Quality; Fog Balanced; Models, Distant Objects, Voxels, Tessellation and Voxel Detail Models Quality; and Small Foliage Balanced (the published community list). It is useful as an organized starting point, but it comes from one user and includes no controlled, per-setting results.

How do I test settings without fooling myself?

Repeatable A/B checks are more useful than copying a single reported frame rate. Test one change at a time, return to the same location, and judge frame pacing, image legibility and control response together.

  1. Record the baseline. Launch after the game has finished its initial shader work, note the automatic preset, resolution and any upscaling option, then play for several minutes without changing anything.
  2. Use three representative scenes. Travel through an open vista with distant buildings, enter a Shroud- or fog-heavy area, and fight a normal encounter. If you own a large, heavily lit base, add a circuit through it because lighting density changes the workload.
  3. Change one control. For example, change Reflections from Quality to Balanced, or Fog from Quality to Balanced. Do not change five settings and attribute every improvement to one of them.
  4. Check clarity as well as smoothness. Look at distant terrain, foliage edges, silhouettes in fog and moving enemies. A setting that feels smoother but makes targets illegible may be a poor combat trade.
  5. Repeat the fight. Test camera turns, dodges, melee target changes and ranged aiming. A stable-feeling fight can result from better input behavior even when rendered frames have not changed.
  6. Keep the change only if it helps your goal. If the scene does not miss your smoothness target, preserve the higher-quality option and move to the next suspected cost.

Community discussions contain highly variable reports, including the question “How is performance for you folks?” Treat those reports as anecdotes, not transferable statistics (community discussion).

Which graphics settings are worth changing first?

There is no official ranking of individual costs for every GPU. Prioritize the setting that visibly coincides with a problem in your repeatable scene, then recheck all three scene types.

Shadows and contact shadows

Keep Contact Shadows on in the suggested baseline if local depth cues matter to you. Point-light shadows deserve a special 1.0 caveat: Keen Games says their performance impact was greatly reduced, so reducing them solely because of old base-building advice is not justified. If a large lit base remains difficult, test one point-light shadow step at a time and compare the same route.

Indirect lighting, SSAO and reflections

Indirect Lighting, SSAO and Reflections are all listed as Balanced in the community configuration. Balanced is a compromise, not a promise of equal visual quality across GPUs. Check interiors, wet surfaces and shaded corners; if one effect is responsible for distracting softness or shimmer, change only that effect.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fog, water and small foliage

Fog is set to Balanced in the illustrative list, while Water remains at Quality and Small Foliage at Balanced. Fog-heavy Shroud scenes are essential to your comparison because atmospheric depth can change both readability and perceived motion. Water and foliage should be judged where they are abundant, not in an empty field.

Models, voxels, tessellation and distant objects

The community list keeps Models, Distant Objects, Voxels, Tessellation and Voxel Detail Models at Quality. That choice preserves the 1.0 emphasis on detailed distant terrain and buildings. Lower these only after checking whether the actual scene misses your goal; the 1.0 rendering changes mean that an old “minimize distant detail” rule is not evidence-based.

How can I make combat feel smoother without changing FPS?

Combat response includes target choice, aiming behavior and camera comfort. Version 1.0 added separate automatic target-selection behavior for melee and ranged attacks. Choose the behavior that matches how you want targets selected instead of assuming a graphics reduction will solve unwanted target changes.

Controller aiming

Controller players can configure aim snap assist and stick aim assist. Test each in the same ranged encounter: stronger assistance can make a fight easier to control, while a player who prefers manual precision may want less intervention. These settings change input behavior, not the number of rendered frames.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Wand free aim

Wand users can select a free-aiming mode under Gameplay > Combat. Use it when automatic selection is pulling spells toward the wrong target; compare the same enemy group before changing graphics settings.

Camera inertia and motion comfort

Accessibility includes a setting to reduce camera inertia. Keen Games says this may help with motion sickness. If turning feels sluggish or uncomfortable, reducing inertia can improve perceived control even when the GPU workload is unchanged.

Should V-Sync be on or off?

Test both states rather than treating V-Sync Off as a universal fix. Keen Games’ October 21, 2026 hotfix 1.0.0.3 specifically says it improved stuttering with V-Sync enabled on AMD graphics cards (hotfix 1.0.0.3 notes). That is a documented fix for a particular issue, not proof that every AMD system or every GPU should use V-Sync On.

Some players around launch reported better results with V-Sync Off, while others described very different overall performance. Make an A/B comparison in the same vista and fight, watching for pacing, tearing and input feel. Keep the state that best matches your display and tolerance for tearing; do not infer a guaranteed FPS increase from the switch.

What should I do about shader-compilation stutter?

After a game update or GPU-driver update, let shader compilation finish before judging startup smoothness. Keen Games says compilation is faster in 1.0 but notes, “A small amount of compilation time is unavoidable, however” (Keen Games, October 14, 2026). Repeatedly changing settings or restarting during compilation can make the first session a misleading comparison.

  • Complete the game’s post-update compilation process.
  • Close unnecessary GPU-intensive applications before comparing scenes.
  • Only then perform the one-setting-at-a-time A/B checks.
  • If roughness appears only online, separate local rendering from network or server symptoms before lowering graphics quality.

What hardware does Enshrouded 1.0 require?

Steam’s published requirements are compatibility targets, not FPS benchmarks. Both tiers list 16 GB of RAM and 60 GB of available storage; the recommended tier advises an SSD. The minimum examples include a GTX 1060 or RX 580 with 6 GB VRAM, or Intel Arc A380. Recommended graphics examples are RTX 2070 Super, RX 6700 XT or Arc A770 (Steam listing).

Tier Published graphics examples Memory Storage Storage note
Minimum GTX 1060 or RX 580 (6 GB VRAM examples), Intel Arc A380 16 GB RAM 60 GB available SSD advice not stated for this tier
Recommended RTX 2070 Super, RX 6700 XT, Intel Arc A770 16 GB RAM 60 GB available SSD recommended

The 6 GB annotation applies to the listed GTX 1060 and RX 580 examples, not automatically to every GPU in the table. Neither the requirements nor the 1.0 notes quantify an FPS gain from a particular SSD, RAM kit or graphics-card change.

When does an internal SSD make sense?

If your PC lacks the recommended SSD, an internal SSD that fits your motherboard and case can improve storage responsiveness and reduce loading friction, but no published figure promises higher rendered FPS. Confirm the drive interface, physical format, available slot and operating-system migration plan before buying. If the PC has less than the published 16 GB RAM requirement, a compatible 16 GB desktop kit addresses the stated requirement; it still does not establish a particular frame-rate result.

What about Steam Deck, cloud play and multiplayer servers?

Keen Games announced Steam Deck Verified status on October 23, 2026 (Steam Deck announcement). Verified status does not establish a stable frame-rate target, so use the same scene-based checks and prioritize readable combat controls.

The official FAQ lists GeForce NOW availability and names GPortal as a server-rental partner (Keen Games FAQ). Cloud streaming adds network latency and compression; server rental addresses co-op hosting, not the client GPU’s rendering workload. If only streamed play stutters, investigate the connection and service path instead of assuming a local graphics toggle will help.

How were these recommendations chosen?

The order follows the decisions that most affect a real play session: preserve 1.0’s distant-world and lighting improvements, test frame pacing in multiple scene types, avoid unsupported universal claims, and treat combat control and camera comfort as separate from image rendering. Every adjustment is conditional on the menu options and hardware actually available to you.

  • Start with the current automatic preset rather than an early-access profile.
  • Keep native resolution and use DLSS Quality only where a supported NVIDIA setup exposes it.
  • Preserve distant detail and point-light quality until a repeatable scene shows a reason to lower them.
  • Use V-Sync A/B testing, incorporating the October 21 AMD hotfix.
  • Evaluate target selection, aim assists, wand free aim and camera inertia during combat.
  • Separate hardware requirements, shader compilation, network behavior and local GPU limits before upgrading or changing settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Steam Deck Verified mean Enshrouded will hold a specific frame rate?

No. Verified status confirms Valve’s compatibility criteria, but the announcement does not promise a fixed frame-rate target. Judge stability in your own exploration and combat scenes, especially in fog and busy bases.

Will lowering the display resolution always make Enshrouded smoother?

Only a workload limited by rendering resolution is likely to benefit, and the trade-off is reduced image clarity. Test an available upscaler or render-scale option first if your menu provides one, then compare distant terrain and enemy silhouettes.

Can a rented multiplayer server increase my local FPS?

No. A server changes where the co-op world is hosted; it does not render frames on your PC. Distinguish server or network lag from local graphics stutter before changing the preset.

Why can the first launch after a driver update feel rough even on suitable hardware?

The game may still be compiling shaders. Keen Games says that process is faster in 1.0 but that some compilation time remains unavoidable, so allow it to complete before evaluating sustained play.
