If an Enshrouded recipe says an ingredient is missing even though you can see it in storage, check the chest type, the exact item and its processing stage, then test the chest at close range. Magic Chests can supply eligible materials to nearby crafting locations; ordinary storage does not provide the same access. If a close-range test works but your usual station or build site does not, placement or range is the likely issue—not a need for a larger chest. Why is my Enshrouded Magic Chest not supplying materials?
Usually, the game cannot use the item because it is in an ordinary chest, is not the exact ingredient the recipe requires, or is outside the useful range of the crafting location. A Magic Chest supplies eligible stored materials; it does not satisfy recipe, survivor, workstation, or quest requirements.

Work through those possibilities in order. A simple test with one known ingredient can tell you whether the problem is chest access or something else in the recipe.
What should I check first when crafting says an ingredient is missing?
Check the container and the ingredient itself before moving furniture or expanding storage. The item’s name and processing stage matter: a raw resource does not stand in for a processed component just because the two are related.

1. Confirm that it is a Magic Chest
Open the container and verify its type. An ordinary storage chest may look similar, but it does not provide the same material access for crafting. If you are unsure, move the required ingredient into a confirmed Magic Chest and test again.
2. Match the recipe’s exact item
Read the ingredient name in the recipe rather than relying on its icon or general category. If the recipe asks for a processed component, first make that component from its raw resources, then place the component in the Magic Chest. Having the raw inputs stored there does not make them count as the finished item.
3. Check the whole requirement list
Storage only addresses material availability. Verify that the recipe is unlocked and that you have any required survivor, workshop or station, and quest progression. If one of those conditions is missing, moving materials between containers will not make the recipe available.

How do I test whether the Magic Chest is working?
Use a nearby chest and crafting station, a known ingredient, and a simple recipe. Keep the test ingredient out of your backpack so a successful craft shows that the chest—not your carried inventory—provided it.
- Place one ingredient for a simple, available recipe in a confirmed Magic Chest.
- Leave that ingredient out of your backpack.
- Stand beside both the chest and the crafting station, then try the recipe.
- If it works, try the recipe again from your normal workstation or building site without changing the ingredient or its container.
If the close test fails, recheck the chest type and the recipe’s exact ingredient and prerequisites. If the close test succeeds but the usual location fails, investigate distance and placement instead.

Can a Magic Chest be too far from the crafting station?
Yes. Magic Chest access has a limited range, so a chest that works beside a station may not supply materials at a more distant workstation or building site. Move the chest closer to the location where you are crafting and test again.

If you use several work areas, a local material depot can be more dependable than assuming a distant chest will supply every station. The guide does not establish a universal distance measurement, so use the close-versus-usual-location test rather than relying on a specific radius.
Why does my Magic Chest work at one workstation but not another?
The difference can be the chest’s distance from each crafting location. A successful recipe at one station confirms that the chest can supply that ingredient there; it does not establish that a farther station is also within range.
Keep the ingredient and recipe constant while testing the other station. If moving the chest closer fixes the second location, placement was the cause. If it still fails at close range, recheck that station’s requirements and the recipe rather than assuming the chest is broken.

Why can’t I use Magic Chest materials while building?
Test building separately from station crafting. Construction and crafting are different actions, so success at a workstation does not by itself prove that the building interface can access the chest at your intended work area.
- Put a known building material in a nearby Magic Chest.
- Open the building interface at the work area where you want to place the structure.
- Try the intended placement, then move closer to the chest and test again if the material is not available.
If building works only when you move closer, treat it as a placement or range issue. If it does not work even nearby, verify the material and the building action you are attempting before changing chest capacity.

Not as a first fix. A larger chest increases capacity, but it will not bring a chest within range or correct a mismatched ingredient, so first confirm that a small close-range test works.

Expand storage only if capacity is the remaining problem—for example, when the needed materials cannot all fit. If the chest is far from the crafting location, move it or establish a local depot instead.

What if the close-range test still fails?
After confirming the container, exact ingredient, and recipe prerequisites, check the build installed on your game and consult the latest official patch notes or bug-report channel. The official hot-fix index indicates that updates continue, but the indexed information does not identify a Magic Chest-specific hotfix for this symptom. A reproducible failure after the close-range test may therefore need to be checked against the build you are playing rather than attributed to a known fix.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do older guides say Magic Chests cannot supply building materials?
That advice may describe an earlier version. The Official Enshrouded Wiki’s Forging the Path update summary says players previously needed at least one piece of building material in their backpack to use Magic Chest stacks, and that the update changed this so stacks could be retrieved immediately.
Does the Version 1.0.0.2 label mean that is my game version?
No. That version label belongs to the craft-from-storage guide, which says it was updated 2026-10-18; it does not identify the build installed on your game. Check your own game’s version when comparing behavior with current patch notes.

What details should I include if I report a reproducible Magic Chest problem?
Include the game build, the exact ingredient and recipe, the station or building interface you tested, and whether the test succeeded when you stood beside the chest. Those details help distinguish a range or prerequisite issue from a failure that persists at close range.
