What this file actually does
The filename is associated with EPSON Printer Driver and SEIKO EPSON CORPORATION. It is a printer-driver DLL used by an Epson installation, possibly one left behind by an older printer package.

That makes the error different from a missing Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET file. Installing those runtimes will normally not restore ep0lvr15.dll.
The message may appear in several forms:
- “The program can’t start because EP0LVR15.DLL is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading EP0LVR15.DLL. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located.”
- “EP0LVR15.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
The wording alone does not prove that the named DLL is the only problem. “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that a dependency used by the Epson driver is missing.

Public records do not establish one universal file size, version, or architecture. Older Epson packages may contain different x86 or x64 builds, so do not replace the file based on a filename match alone.

Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Epson printer driver
This is the repair I would start with. A loose DLL replacement can leave the driver’s INF file, dependencies, spooler configuration, and package signing problems untouched.
1. Identify the printer model
Look at the printer’s front panel, rear label, purchase documentation, or an existing printer entry in Windows. Record the complete model name, including any suffix or regional designation.
If the error appears during startup and you no longer own the Epson printer, the file may be referenced by an old installation. In that case, remove the obsolete Epson software rather than trying to restore the DLL.
2. Check Windows edition and architecture
Press Windows key + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter. Check:
- OS Name
- Version
- System Type
“x64-based PC” indicates 64-bit Windows. “ARM-based PC” indicates ARM Windows. Do not assume that an old x86 printer package is suitable for every modern Windows installation.
You can also open Settings > System > About and inspect System type.

- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the Epson printer.
- Choose Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
If several Epson entries exist, remove duplicates and entries for printers you no longer use. Leave unrelated printers alone.

4. Remove old Epson software if necessary
Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Search for Epson entries such as printer utilities, status monitors, or older driver packages. Remove software that belongs to the affected printer and is no longer needed.
If Windows refuses to remove a package:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
printui.exe /s /t2. - Press Enter.
- Open the Drivers tab.
- Select the Epson driver.
- Choose Remove.
- Select the option to remove the driver and driver package when Windows offers it.
Do not remove a driver that is still required by another working Epson printer without checking its model first.
5. Restart Windows
A restart releases files still held by the Print Spooler and clears part of the old installation state.

Use Epson’s official Support portal and search for the exact model. Select the Windows version and architecture that Epson provides for that printer. Download the printer-driver package, not an isolated DLL.
Run the installer as an administrator if needed: right-click the downloaded installer, select Show more options, choose Run as administrator, and follow the setup prompts.
If the installer completes, return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select Add device, and add the printer again.
7. Test the result
Print a test page from:
Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > your Epson printer > Printer properties > Print Test Page

Manually checking dozens of old driver packages is tedious, especially when Windows does not clearly identify which one is stale. Fix 2: Let Windows Update supply the driver
Windows Update is the next safe route when Epson’s old installer will not run or the printer model has limited modern support.
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Open Advanced options > Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates.
- Install an Epson printer driver if one is listed.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
Microsoft recommends Windows Update as the first source for current printer drivers. If Windows installs only a generic driver, basic printing may work while Epson-specific status or scanning features remain unavailable.

For an older model, search the Microsoft Update Catalog using the exact printer model. Choose a package whose supported Windows version and architecture match your computer. Do not select a package merely because its filename contains ep0lvr15.dll.
Fix 3: Check Defender Protection history
A security product may have quarantined a driver file, although there is no public evidence that ep0lvr15.dll itself is malware.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an Epson-related detection or quarantined file.
- Expand the entry and review its path, detection name, and action.
Do not broadly disable Defender. If the file came from a legitimate Epson or Microsoft driver package, verify the package’s digital signature and reinstall the complete package instead of restoring a loose DLL.
To inspect a file already on disk, right-click it, select Properties, and check the Digital Signatures tab when available. Also note its full path. A file in System32 is not automatically the correct printer-driver file.
If Protection history shows a suspicious path, an unsigned file, or a location unrelated to printer software, leave it quarantined and run a full scan under Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when other Windows files are failing, Windows Update is malfunctioning, or system corruption began at the same time. They do not replace a missing Epson package.

- Type
Command Prompt. - Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until SFC reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
If SFC reports that it repaired corrupted files, test printing again. If it reports that it could not repair everything, restart and run it once more. If the Epson DLL is not part of the Windows component store, DISM and SFC cannot recreate it; reinstall the Epson driver instead.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing whether Windows components are actually damaged can waste time. Device Manager may reveal a failed printer installation or a device using an unsuitable driver.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and Universal Serial Bus controllers if the printer is connected by USB.
- Look for the Epson device or a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected entry and select Properties.
- Read the message under Device status.
- Open the Driver tab and record the provider, date, and version.
- Use Uninstall Device only for the affected Epson entry.
- If offered, select Attempt to remove the driver for this device.
- Restart and reinstall the correct package.
A 32-bit file should not be copied into a 64-bit driver location, and an x64 file should not be substituted for an x86 component. Do not copy files into System32, SysWOW64, or an application directory based on generic internet instructions.
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
Do not run regsvr32 ep0lvr15.dll merely because the file ends in .dll. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer; printer rendering and driver DLLs are normally installed through their signed INF package and Driver Store.
A registration command may produce another error without repairing the printer. The correct response to a missing printer-driver DLL is package reinstallation, not manual registration.

Fix 6: Consider compatibility and recent changes
Older Epson printers may not have a full package for the Windows version you are using. Check Epson’s model support information before forcing an old installer onto Windows 10 or Windows 11. Windows may offer only a generic driver, or the original package may fail architecture or signature checks.
If the problem began immediately after a driver or Windows change:
- Open Device Manager.
- Open the Epson device’s Properties.
- Select the Driver tab.
- Choose Roll Back Driver if the button is available.
- Restart and test.
If no suitable driver is available, System Restore may help when a restore point predates the failure:

- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Choose a restore point from before the driver change.
- Review affected programs.
- Start the restoration.
System Restore changes system files, settings, and installed programs, but normally does not affect personal files.
If the error persists
Collect these details before contacting Epson or Microsoft Support:
- The complete error message
- Epson printer model
- Windows edition, build, and system type
- Whether the error occurs at startup, installation, printing, or removal
- The full path of any
ep0lvr15.dllfound on disk - Epson driver provider and version
- The relevant Event Viewer entry
- Whether Defender quarantined anything
Open Event Viewer with Windows key + X > Event Viewer, then inspect Windows Logs > Application and Windows Logs > System around the time of the failure. For printing-specific problems, also check the PrintService logs under Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows.
If the issue affects only one account, test another Windows account. A working second account points toward profile permissions or profile corruption rather than a universal missing driver.

Is ep0lvr15.dll a genuine Windows file?
