ep0nre8h.dll is an Epson printer-driver component, not a normal Windows system file. If Windows says ep0nre8h.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair the Epson printer package instead of downloading the DLL by itself.
The exact Epson model is not conclusively documented. File inventories have associated it with Epson WorkForce 30-series printers and the SX420W, but those associations are not an official Epson manifest. The file has also appeared in different driver-package locations and records disagree about its architecture, so there is no universal path or one-size-fits-all replacement.

The error may appear while printing, when Epson Status Monitor starts, during printer installation, or at Windows startup after an Epson package was partly removed. Generic loader messages can include “The specified module could not be found,” even when the named DLL exists but one of its dependencies is missing.
Fix 1: Remove and reinstall the Epson printer package
This is the most likely solution. It replaces the missing or damaged file together with the other files, services, configuration data, and dependencies required by the printer driver.

Remove the printer from Windows
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Epson printer.
- Select Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
If more than one Epson printer is listed, note each model before removing anything. Multiple Epson packages may remain installed even when only one printer is visible.
Uninstall Epson software
- Return to Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for
Epson. - Uninstall the Epson printer software, Epson printer utility, or Epson Printer Software Uninstall entry.
- Follow the uninstall wizard.
- Restart Windows.
Epson’s own repair procedure uses removal, a restart, and reinstallation because an incomplete uninstall can leave the printer package in a broken state.
Reinstall the correct package
After restarting:
- Identify the exact printer model from the label on the printer or its original documentation.
- Open Epson’s official Support site in your browser.
- Search for the exact model.
- Select your Windows version when prompted.
- Download the printer driver or complete printer software package.
- Run the installer as an administrator if Windows requests permission.
- Connect or power on the printer only when the installer requests it.
- Complete a test print.
If the printer works and the startup or printing error disappears, the repair is complete. If the installer reports that a driver already exists, choose the option to replace the current driver when available.
Do not install a driver for a similar Epson model. A model that looks nearly identical can use a different package, printer language, monitor utility, or architecture.

If manually identifying old Epson packages and matching driver versions is becoming guesswork, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for stale or missing drivers and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies the issue, while driver installation and repair are handled by the full version. It is optional, and the exact Epson model-specific package remains the preferred source.
Fix 2: Let Windows Update reinstall the printer driver
Windows may provide a compatible driver after the old printer has been removed.
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Select Advanced options.
- Select Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates if the section is present.
- Install an Epson printer driver if one is listed.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Choose the Epson printer when it appears.
Windows Update is useful when Epson does not provide a current package for the installed Windows release. For older printers, however, the manufacturer package may include utilities that Windows does not install automatically.
To verify the installed driver:
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Select the Epson printer.
- Select Printer properties.
- Open the Advanced tab.
- Check the listed driver name.
If the printer still produces the same DLL error, remove it again and use the complete Epson package rather than relying on the automatically selected driver.

Fix 3: Check the driver architecture and old packages
A 64-bit Windows installation can still use 32-bit printer components. Windows architecture and DLL architecture are not interchangeable, and the presence of an x64 folder does not prove that every file inside it is a 64-bit DLL.
Do not copy a 32-bit replacement into System32, and do not copy a 64-bit file into SysWOW64. Those folders have specific Windows roles, and manually placing a printer DLL there can create a second problem.
To inspect the installed Epson driver:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
printmanagement.msc. - Press Enter.
If Print Management opens:
- Expand Print Servers.
- Expand your computer.
- Select Drivers.
- Look for Epson entries.
- Note the driver name and type before removing anything.
Windows Home editions may not include Print Management. In that case:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
control printers. - Press Enter.
- Select any printer.
- Select Print server properties from the toolbar or menu.
- Open the Drivers tab.
- Select an obsolete Epson driver.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package only when you are sure no other printer depends on it.
Removing a shared driver can affect other printers. If several Epson devices are installed, remove only the package connected with the failed printer. Restart Windows and reinstall the exact model driver.
The Windows Driver Store can also retain packages after a printer disappears. Do not delete random files from Driver Store or from C:WindowsSystem32spooldrivers. Driver packages are installed through signed information files and may contain more than the named DLL.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine a driver file. This is possible after a security update, but the filename alone does not prove that a quarantined copy is safe.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Open an entry related to Epson or
ep0nre8h.dll. - Check the original file location and detection details.
Restore or allow the file only if you can verify that it came from a legitimate Epson installation or a known-good Windows Driver Store package. If the source is uncertain, do not restore it. Remove the damaged Epson package and reinstall it from the official Epson support page instead.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
ep0nre8h.dll is not a protected Microsoft system file, so System File Checker may not restore it. DISM and SFC are still useful when the error began after an interrupted update, disk problem, or broader Windows corruption.
Run DISM first
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for the operation to finish. It can take time and may appear to pause. Restart Windows when it completes.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows.
A message stating that Windows found and repaired corrupted files indicates that protected Windows components were repaired. It does not confirm that the Epson DLL was restored. Test printing afterward, and reinstall the Epson driver if the error remains.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without checking which component changed rarely fixes a third-party printer package. Outbyte PC Repair can provide a scan showing broader Windows issues before repair; the scan is free, while repair is performed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the Epson package is still the direct fix for this driver file.
Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change
Use System Restore when the printer worked before a driver installation, Windows update, cleanup operation, or other recent change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore can revert driver and system settings, but it may not remove every damaged Epson package. If the DLL error returns, remove the Epson printer and reinstall its driver after the restore.

Check whether a dependency is missing
“The specified module could not be found” can mean that Windows cannot find a dependency required by ep0nre8h.dll, not necessarily that the named file is absent.

- Any recent antivirus, cleanup, update, or driver event
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET simply because a DLL error appeared. No evidence ties this Epson file specifically to those Microsoft runtimes. Install a runtime only when the error names a runtime component such as MSVCP, VCRUNTIME, or api-ms-win-crt.
What not to do
Do not download the isolated DLL
Random DLL download pages can provide malware, an altered file, the wrong architecture, or a version that does not match the rest of the Epson package. Copying the file into System32, SysWOW64, an application folder, or the spool directory can create version conflicts while leaving the actual driver installation incomplete.
Use the exact Epson model package or Windows Update instead.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Do not use regsvr32 as a general repair
regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose registration-compatible components. It does not rebuild a printer driver, restore missing dependencies, repair an INF package, or recreate spooler configuration. A failed registration command can add confusion without addressing the cause.
For this Epson driver error, remove and reinstall the printer package rather than registering the DLL.

Windows Features are not a general source for third-party Epson driver files. Enable an optional Windows component only when a separate application explicitly requires it and the error identifies that component.
FAQ
Is ep0nre8h.dll a Windows file?
No reliable evidence identifies it as a built-in Windows DLL. Available records identify it as part of an Epson printer-driver package.
Which Epson printer installed it?
The exact model is not conclusively established. Public inventories have associated it with WorkForce 30-series printers and the SX420W, but use the printer’s actual model and its official driver page rather than relying on that association.
Is the DLL 32-bit or 64-bit?
Available records conflict. Do not infer the DLL architecture from Windows being 64-bit or from a folder name. Install the package selected for the exact printer and Windows architecture.
Why does the error appear after uninstalling Epson software?
An uninstall may remove the file while leaving a startup entry, printer monitor, scheduled task, or driver reference. Removing the printer, uninstalling Epson software, restarting, and reinstalling the complete package usually resolves that mismatch.
What if no Epson printer is installed now?
Check Settings > Apps > Installed apps for Epson software, then inspect Startup apps and Task Manager for stale Epson entries. Remove leftover software only after confirming it is not used by another printer. If the error began after a recent change, System Restore may help.
When should I contact Epson or Microsoft?
Contact Epson when the exact model driver will not install, the package fails repeatedly, or the model is no longer clearly supported. Use Microsoft support when Windows Update, the print spooler, protected system files, or System Restore is failing independently of the Epson package.
