“The program can’t start because ep0nxff2.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.” ep0nxff2.dll is an Epson printer-driver component, not a Windows system DLL.
The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the Epson driver package for your exact printer. Do not download the DLL by itself or copy it into C:WindowsSystem32.
Which fix applies to you
Use this list to choose the right starting point:
- The error appears when printing or opening printer software: reinstall the Epson printer driver.
- The error started after a driver update or uninstall: remove the stale Epson printer and driver entry, restart Windows, then reinstall the current package.
- Windows Security shows a detection or quarantine event: inspect Protection History before restoring anything.
- The file appears to be present but Windows still says “specified module could not be found”: reinstall the complete package because a dependency may be missing.

This file is not part of Windows, Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET. Installing those runtimes is not a reliable way to restore it. It is also not a general-purpose game DLL.
Epson packages may use different components depending on the printer model, Windows edition, architecture, and installed print language. Exact model coverage for this filename is not reliably documented in current Epson product pages, so identify your printer before selecting a driver.
Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Epson printer driver
This is the most likely solution.
1. Identify the printer
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Open the Epson printer entry and note its exact model name.
- Also note whether Windows is 10 or 11 and whether the system is 64-bit or ARM-based.
To check the architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System → About.
- Check System type.
2. Get the package from Epson
Open Epson’s official support site or Epson Download Center. Search for the exact printer model, select your Windows version and architecture, and download the current printer driver or the Epson Universal Print Driver listed for that device.
Do not search for ep0nxff2.dll as an individual download. The driver installer contains the INF files, supporting libraries, architecture-specific files, and registration information Windows needs.
3. Remove the broken printer if necessary
If the Epson installer offers to repair the existing installation, use that option first. If repair is unavailable or fails:
- Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Epson printer.
- Choose Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the Epson installer.
- Re-add the printer when setup finishes.
- Print a test page.
To print a test page, open the printer’s page in Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners, select Printer properties, open the General tab, and select Print Test Page.
If the test page prints without the DLL error, the driver reference has been repaired.
If the Epson installer still fails
A stale driver package may remain even after removing the printer.

- Expand Print Servers → your computer → Drivers.
- Remove an obsolete Epson driver only if no active Epson printer depends on it.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the current Epson package again.
Print Management is not included in every Windows edition. If the command is unavailable, remove the printer through Settings and use the cleanup or uninstall utility supplied with the Epson package.

Fix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Security software can remove a legitimate driver file, or it can flag a suspicious replacement.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
ep0nxff2.dll, an Epson installer, or the Epson Driver Store package. - Open the event and record the original path and detection name.
Do not immediately choose Restore or Allow on device. First, download the Epson installer again from Epson’s official support page and scan it with Windows Security. Only restore a quarantined file when you have verified that it came from the legitimate Epson driver package and the detection is a credible false positive.

Fix 3: Remove a stale Epson print reference
If the error appears during startup or only after a printer was removed, Windows may still be trying to load an old Epson print processor, queue, or driver package.
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Remove Epson printers that no longer exist or are no longer used.
- Press Windows + R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. - Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and select Restart.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the Epson driver for any printer you still use.
If the error continues, use printmanagement.msc as described above to remove the obsolete Epson driver. Do not delete random files from the Driver Store. Windows installs driver packages through INF files and driver servicing, and manually deleting one file can make the print subsystem less consistent.
Fix 4: Check architecture and package compatibility
The commonly indexed ep0nxff2.dll file is x86. That does not automatically mean it is wrong on 64-bit Windows. A 64-bit Windows installation can use some 32-bit printer components, provided the complete driver package is designed for that system.
The important rule is to install the package intended for:
- Your exact Epson printer model
- Your Windows version
- Your system architecture
- Your connection type, if Epson provides separate network or USB packages
Do not replace an x86 file with an x64 DLL or copy a file from another Epson package. A filename match does not guarantee matching exports, dependencies, signing, or driver configuration.
If you are using an older printer on ARM Windows, use the Epson or Microsoft-supported package available for that platform. The correct package, not a standalone DLL, determines compatibility.

DISM and SFC do not normally retrieve an Epson DLL because ep0nxff2.dll is not a Windows component. Use them when the machine also has damaged system files, failed updates, unexplained application errors, or servicing problems.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Epson printer again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker procedure.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test printing. If it reports that it could not repair some files, repeat the Epson driver reinstall rather than expecting SFC to supply the missing vendor DLL.

System Restore is useful when the Epson printer worked before a recent driver installation, cleanup, or update.
- Open Start and search for Create a restore point.
- Open the result.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Review the affected programs and drivers.
- Confirm the restore.
- Restart Windows and test the printer.
You can also reach recovery options through Settings → System → Recovery → Advanced startup.

System Restore rolls back system settings, installed drivers, and related changes. It does not normally remove ordinary personal documents. Microsoft lists the available recovery choices in its Windows recovery options.
Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is not a general DLL installation command. It is intended for DLLs that expose the COM registration entry point DllRegisterServer.

Running a command such as this is therefore not a normal repair:
regsvr32 ep0nxff2.dll
It can produce another error while leaving the Epson driver package broken. Microsoft describes the command’s registration behavior in its regsvr32 reference.
Why random DLL downloads are unsafe
A standalone DLL download may have:
- The wrong Epson package version
- The wrong x86 or x64 architecture
- Missing dependent files
- No trustworthy signature
- Malware or tampered contents
- A different internal build with incompatible exports
It may also hide the real problem: a broken INF installation, stale print queue, failed update, or quarantined driver. Use Epson’s official support and download pages for the complete printer package, and use Microsoft support procedures for Windows repair.
If the error remains
Collect these details before contacting Epson or Microsoft support:
- The exact printer model
- Windows edition, version, and architecture
- The complete error wording
- Whether it appears at startup, when printing, or when opening Epson software
- The Epson driver package name
- The original file path shown in the error or Event Viewer
- Any Protection History detection
- The result of the Epson reinstall and SFC/DISM commands
“The specified module could not be found” can mean that Windows found ep0nxff2.dll but could not load one of its dependencies. That is another reason to reinstall the complete Epson driver instead of searching for individual DLLs.
FAQ
Is ep0nxff2.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with an Epson printer-driver package and is commonly found under an Epson Driver Store repository.
Is it part of Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
