Bloomberg’s October 12, 2026 report, in an excerpt reproduced in a Reddit post linking to Bloomberg, describes an unannounced shooter featuring Marvel and Star Wars characters. People familiar with the project, who were not authorized to speak publicly, reportedly said it had been slated for March and was delayed, with no replacement date communicated.

Epic and Disney have not independently confirmed the shooter, the reported March target, or the delay in the accessible statements. What the report says about AI in development
According to Bloomberg’s reproduced excerpt, developers were instructed to use an “AI first” production model, with tools such as Anthropic’s Claude and people managing and guiding the work. The excerpt quotes a director telling staff, “No more hand-written code,” and saying that all art would be “generated with full AI workflows.” Those are reported internal remarks. They do not establish that the finished game will contain only AI-generated code or art, or that every team member has adopted that workflow.

Epic communications director Jake Jones gave Bloomberg this statement: “We’re embracing AI-accelerated development, led by Epic developers who are the visionaries and creative drivers for everything we do.” It expresses Epic’s position on AI-accelerated development, but does not confirm every detail in the anonymous-source account.
How this fits the official Epic–Disney collaboration
Epic and Disney announced a broad partnership on February 7, 2024, to build an “all-new open, persistent and social universe” connected to Fortnite. Epic said the planned experience would let people play, watch, shop, engage with Disney stories and characters, and create and share experiences. The announcement named Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Avatar, and said the experience would be powered by Unreal Engine. Epic’s announcement also said Disney would invest $1.5 billion to acquire an equity stake in Epic, subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. That announced investment was for an equity stake; it does not establish the budget for the reported shooter.

Earlier reports show why the schedule needs qualification
Release timing has appeared differently in dated reporting. On April 13, 2026, the Los Angeles Times published a report by Cecilia D’Anastasio, credited to Bloomberg, saying the first game in the Disney partnership was on track for November, citing four current and former employees. Epic’s Liz Markman said in that earlier report that its timelines were aggressive and that developers were being moved onto projects with approaching releases while smaller teams worked on further-off projects. A Disney spokesperson said then that the companies remained focused on their long-term collaboration and that work on the games and entertainment universe remained unchanged.

What Epic and Disney have already said about AI
There is an earlier, official example of AI in an Epic–Disney project, but it is separate from the reported shooter. On May 16, 2025, Disney said Epic and Disney had used AI technology for an interactive Darth Vader conversational experience in Fortnite, developed in consultation with James Earl Jones’s family, Disney and Lucasfilm. Disney said the work emphasized transparency, consent and safety. Disney’s announcement described that feature; it does not verify or endorse the production instructions Bloomberg attributes to the 2026 project.
