epoc_object.dll is a legacy 32-bit application file used by Sony Ericsson PC Suite and its Mobile Phone Monitor software. If epoc_object.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, repair or reinstall the complete Sony Ericsson installation instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
The file is not a normal Windows component. It should not normally be copied into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

The exact PC Suite release that supplied this file is not currently verifiable. The historical Mobile2Mobile Phone Monitor folder is a useful clue, but installations can use different paths.
Errors caused by epoc_object.dll
The wording depends on the Windows version and the program attempting to start. Common variants include:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

- “The program can’t start because epoc_object.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “This application failed to start because epoc_object.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading epoc_object.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The file epoc_object.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: epoc_object.dll.”
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. Windows may be unable to find a dependency required by epoc_object.dll.
Before changing anything, note the application name shown in the error. Check whether it mentions Sony Ericsson PC Suite, Mobile Phone Monitor, a phone connection utility, or an obsolete startup item.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall Sony Ericsson PC Suite
This is the most likely solution because epoc_object.dll belongs to the application rather than Windows.
If PC Suite is still installed
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps.
- Search for Sony Ericsson PC Suite, Mobile Phone Monitor, or a similarly named Sony Ericsson entry.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
Windows may show a Repair option for some applications. Select it first if it is available. If Repair fails, uninstall the damaged installation and restart the computer.

Sony Ericsson’s historical phone manuals directed users to install PC Suite from the phone CD or download it from the former Sony Ericsson support service.
Do not install only epoc_object.dll. The program may also need private libraries, registry entries, configuration files, phone drivers, and older supporting components.
If the program is not listed
Check the older Control Panel list:
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Look for Sony Ericsson PC Suite, Mobile Phone Monitor, or related phone software.
- Uninstall it if present.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer as administrator.
To run an installer as administrator, right-click its setup file and select Run as administrator. If the installer fails immediately, right-click it, choose Properties, open Compatibility, select an older Windows compatibility mode, and try again.
How to tell whether this worked
Launch PC Suite or the phone utility after reinstalling. The error is resolved when the program opens without the epoc_object.dll message and the related phone features load normally.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If the same message appears, identify the exact application named in the dialog. A stale startup entry may be calling an old copy of the software even though the main program has already been removed.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can quarantine an old application file. This is more likely with obsolete software because its installer and binaries may be unsigned, outdated, or unfamiliar to current security tools.

Only restore the file if all of the following are true:
- It came from an intact, trusted Sony Ericsson installer.
- The detection clearly applies to that file.
- You have confirmed that the installer was not modified.
- A current security scan does not identify the installation media as unsafe.
Microsoft Defender provides Restore and, where applicable, Allow on device actions in Protection history. Do not use those actions for a DLL downloaded from an unverified file website.

The safer approach after a quarantine event is usually to remove the damaged installation, restart Windows, scan the original installer, and reinstall the complete application.
Fix 3: Remove a stale startup entry if you no longer use the software
If Sony Ericsson PC Suite has been removed but the error appears every time Windows starts, restoring the DLL is not the right solution. Windows may still be trying to launch an obsolete monitor, service, or startup task.
Check Windows startup apps
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for Sony Ericsson, Mobile Phone Monitor, PC Suite, or an unknown entry associated with the old installation.
- Select the entry.
- Choose Disable.
Check installed applications again
Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and remove any remaining Sony Ericsson components. Also check Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features for older entries.
Check Task Scheduler carefully
- Open Start and search for Task Scheduler.
- Open Task Scheduler Library.
- Review tasks that clearly reference Sony Ericsson or Mobile Phone Monitor.
- Right-click an obsolete task and select Disable.
- Delete it only when you are certain it belongs to the removed software.
Do not disable unrelated Windows tasks merely because their names are unfamiliar.
Restart the computer. If the error no longer appears, the cause was a stale startup reference rather than a missing Windows file.
Fix 4: Check the application folder and dependencies
If PC Suite still exists, inspect its installation directory before reinstalling:
C:Program FilesSony EricssonMobile2Mobile Phone Monitor
Look for epoc_object.dll in that folder or in the directory used by your installation. Do not copy a file from another computer unless it came from the same trusted installer and matching software release.

A message stating that the specified module could not be found may indicate a missing dependency. The complete dependency set for this DLL is not verified, so installing random runtime packages is not a reliable repair.
If the error names a separate component, follow that component’s official repair instructions. For example, install a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime only when the error explicitly identifies that runtime or the original application installer requires it. epoc_object.dll itself is not known to be supplied by Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET.
For deeper diagnosis:
- Press Windows + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Open Windows Logs > Application.
- Look for an error at the time the program failed.
- Note the application name, faulting module, and any named dependency.
If the event identifies another missing DLL or an entry-point error, repair the complete PC Suite installation rather than replacing only epoc_object.dll.
Fix 5: Use Windows compatibility settings
Legacy Sony Ericsson software may fail on modern Windows even after its files are restored.
Recommended Free Tools
- Locate the PC Suite shortcut or executable.
- Right-click it and select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Try an older Windows version available in the list.
- Select Run this program as an administrator if the software requires it.
- Choose Apply, then OK.
- Start the application again.
Compatibility mode cannot recreate missing application files. Use it only after reinstalling from clean installation media.
A 32-bit application can run on 64-bit Windows through Windows’ compatibility layer, but it still requires its own 32-bit files and dependencies. This does not mean that the DLL should be placed in both system folders.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only as a secondary step
Because epoc_object.dll is associated with third-party phone software, Windows component repair is not the primary fix. Use it when other applications also show missing or corrupted system-file errors.
Open Terminal, Command Prompt, or PowerShell as administrator:

- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for the command to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands complete and test PC Suite again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker. These commands repair protected Windows components; they do not download or restore a Sony Ericsson application DLL.

Check optional Windows features
Do not enable random Windows features to replace epoc_object.dll. To review available components:

optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Review the list of Windows Features.
- Leave unrelated features unchanged unless the Sony Ericsson installer specifically requires one.
Windows Features do not normally provide this DLL.
Fix 7: Reinstall phone drivers only if the phone connection also fails
A driver problem can prevent PC Suite from detecting a phone, but it does not normally create epoc_object.dll. Treat driver repair as a separate issue.
- Connect the phone if it is safe to do so.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Portable Devices, Universal Serial Bus controllers, and Other devices.
- Look for a yellow warning icon or an unknown Sony Ericsson device.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the phone driver from the same trusted PC Suite installer or manufacturer-supplied media.
Do not use Device Manager to replace the missing DLL. It manages hardware drivers, not application libraries.
When several device drivers are outdated, manually matching versions and hardware IDs can take longer than the DLL repair itself. Outbyte Driver Updater provides a free scan showing the drivers it identifies, while installation is handled by the full version; it is not required to repair epoc_object.dll, and the PC Suite reinstall remains the correct application fix.
Fix 8: Use System Restore after a known change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after a software installation, removal, or system change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Open Start.
- Search for Create a restore point.
- Open the result.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs.
- Confirm the restore.
System Restore rolls back system settings and installed software but normally does not remove personal files. It may also bring back an unwanted legacy installation, so use it only when repairing the original software is not practical.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random website
Standalone DLL sites can provide the wrong version, wrong architecture, modified files, or malware. Even a file with the correct name may not match the rest of the PC Suite installation.
A downloaded DLL also does not restore missing registry entries, dependencies, services, startup configuration, or phone drivers. Use the original phone CD, a known-good manufacturer installer, or legitimate archived installation media instead.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
System32 and SysWOW64 are Windows system directories, not general storage locations for application DLLs. Copying a 32-bit application file there can create version conflicts and still leave PC Suite unable to find its private dependencies.
Keep the DLL with the application that uses it.
Do not run regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that this particular DLL exports that entry point.
Do not run:
regsvr32 epoc_object.dll
as a generic response to a missing-file error. If the official PC Suite installer reports that a related module could not be registered, rerun or reinstall the complete package as administrator. The installer knows which files and registration actions belong together.

If the error remains after reinstalling
Work through these checks:
- Confirm that the error names the Sony Ericsson program you repaired.
- Check Windows Security Protection history for another quarantine event.
- Inspect Event Viewer for a dependent module or failed entry point.
- Verify that the application is running from its installed folder rather than an obsolete shortcut.
- Test the program from a new local Windows user profile if the problem occurs only in one account.
- Try compatibility settings for the legacy installer or application.
- Remove the software completely if it is no longer needed.
If the installer itself fails, the installation media may be damaged or incompatible with the current Windows release. Use a different known-good copy of the original installer and run it with administrator rights.
FAQ
Is epoc_object.dll a Windows file?
No evidence supports that. It is associated with legacy Sony Ericsson software, particularly the Mobile2 Mobile Phone Monitor installation family.
Is epoc_object.dll a 64-bit DLL?
The strongest available metadata identifies it as a 32-bit Win32 file. A conflicting third-party listing labels it x64, so that claim should not be treated as reliable.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Not automatically. Install a runtime only if the complete error names that runtime or the original PC Suite installer requires it. The missing file itself is not identified as a Microsoft runtime DLL.
Does regsvr32 fix epoc_object.dll?
Not as a general repair. There is no verified evidence that this file supports self-registration. Reinstall the complete application instead.
What if I no longer use a Sony Ericsson phone?
Uninstall PC Suite and Mobile Phone Monitor, disable their startup entries, and remove obsolete scheduled tasks. Do not download the DLL just to silence an old startup error.
Recommended Free Tools
Why does Windows say the specified module could not be found?
The named DLL may be missing, or one of its dependencies may be unavailable. Event Viewer and a complete application reinstall are more useful than copying the DLL into a Windows system folder.
Where should the file be located?
Historically, it was listed inside the Sony Ericsson application directory under:
Sony EricssonMobile2Mobile Phone Monitor
The exact path can vary by installer and Windows configuration. It should remain with the application, not in System32 or SysWOW64.
