Etermax at 15: What the 800 Million Download Milestone Really Covers

Etermax marked its 15th anniversary in 2024, and GamesBeat reported that Trivia Crack had generated more than 800 million downloads. That figure is not a clean, consistently defined company-wide total: Etermax’s own publications describe different download totals for different scopes. Here is what is known about the milestone, the company behind Trivia Crack, and how the game grew beyond phones.

How many downloads does Trivia Crack have?

GamesBeat’s September 6, 2024 anniversary report says Trivia Crack had generated more than 800 million downloads. That is the clearest source for the headline figure as a Trivia Crack milestone. The same number appears in a different context in Etermax’s 2022 white paper, which says the company’s Gaming division had exceeded 800 million downloads.

Source and date What the source says exceeded the total Figure
GamesBeat, September 6, 2024 Trivia Crack More than 800 million downloads
Etermax, 2022 white paper Etermax’s Gaming division More than 800 million downloads
Etermax newsroom, November 15, 2024 Its portfolio of trivia and word games More than 400 million downloads

The sources do not explain why Etermax’s 2024 portfolio figure is lower than the 2022 Gaming division figure, or whether the figures use different counting methods or scopes. They provide no shared measurement notes that would make the totals comparable. It would therefore be misleading to treat them as a time series, infer a decline, or combine them into one company-wide count.

What is Etermax, and who created Trivia Crack?

Etermax is an Argentina-founded game company established in 2009 by Máximo Cavazzani. Its early work included an iPhone app for buying and selling shares; Cavazzani later described the company’s shift toward games and entertainment. Etermax released Word Crack, known as Apalabrados in Spanish, in 2011, followed by Trivia Crack—Preguntados in Spanish—in 2013. In a 2024 interview with iProfesional, Cavazzani called Trivia Crack “a true catalyst for Etermax, marking a before and after in our history” (translated from the Spanish original).

How did Trivia Crack become so popular?

The available accounts point to an international audience and a simple, repeatable format: players answer trivia questions across categories. In the 2024 iProfesional interview, Cavazzani said the game reached users in more than 180 countries and 34 languages, and led the US App Store for 66 consecutive days. These are company-leader claims reported in the interview, not independently audited measurements.

Trivia Crack also expanded into physical formats. GamesBeat reported that Etermax had produced books and board games and that Trivia Crack physical copies had sold more than 100,000 copies. That historical sales figure does not identify a current edition, language, retailer, or whether the game is still available to buy.

What was Etermax doing beyond its original games?

In its 2024 anniversary coverage, GamesBeat described a company of about 300 people, most based in Argentina and Uruguay, and reported plans to extend Etermax’s trivia properties into creator tools, brand solutions, and immersive experiences. Those details describe initiatives discussed at the time, not a guarantee that every product remains available today.

Creator and brand initiatives

Cavazzani told iProfesional that Etermax had a Brand Gamification division and collaborations spanning education, banking, and entertainment. GamesBeat also reported that the company was developing creator tools and offerings such as Trivia Crack for Creators and Trivia Crack for Brands. The cited coverage does not establish current availability or terms for creators, nor does it confirm an affiliate or compensation program.

Immersive trivia

GamesBeat described Trivia Crack World as a planned multiplayer trivia experience spanning virtual reality, mobile, and desktop. This was a plan reported in 2024; the cited account does not establish its present release status.

For Cavazzani, the broader ambition was to carry the trivia format onto new platforms. As quoted by GamesBeat, he said: “We’re a 15 year old company. We started Trivia Crack more than 10 years ago, and that was a revelation. We realized that’s what we wanted to do. To become the most successful trivia app in the world, which we are, and also finding ways of taking that into the new technology.”
