To upgrade, interact with a Palbox, complete the listed Base Mission by building the required structures and assigning the required Pals, then select Base Upgrade again. Base upgrades increase worker capacity, unlock additional guild base slots at key levels, and eventually require advanced production structures—but they do not expand the Palbox’s build radius.
This guide covers the current progression for Palworld version 1.0 through version 1.0.2, including every requirement, worker limit, base-slot milestone, and common upgrade problem.

- Build and interact with a Palbox.
- Select Base Upgrade to view the active Base Mission.
- Build every listed structure inside that Palbox’s base area.
- Deploy the required number of Pals at that specific base when the mission asks for them.
- Return to the Palbox and select Base Upgrade to apply the next level.
On PC, the default interaction key can be F, V, C, or 4, depending on the interaction slot. You can change the binding in the control settings; the default build-menu key is B. See the current Palworld control bindings.
Unlocking an item in the Technology menu is not enough. The structure must actually be built, and structures or workers at another base may not satisfy the active Palbox’s mission.

What Each Base Level Actually Changes
Worker capacity reaches 30
Base Level increases the game’s theoretical worker limit one step at a time. It reaches 30 at Base Level 30 and remains at 30 through Level 35. However, standard world settings cap each base at 15 working Pals. As a result, Levels 16–35 still unlock their mission structures and other progression, but they do not let a default-settings base exceed 15 workers.

- (C) PALWORLD
If you increase Max Pals Working at Base in the world customization settings, later Base Levels can provide up to the theoretical 30-worker limit. A custom world can also allow more than the normal four guild bases.
Additional bases unlock at Levels 8, 15, and 25
On default settings, the maximum number of Palboxes shared by a guild is:
- Levels 1–7: 1 base
- Levels 8–14: 2 bases
- Levels 15–24: 3 bases
- Levels 25–35: 4 bases
The limit is shared by the entire guild, not granted separately to each player. The second base unlocks at Level 8—not Level 10—and the third unlocks at Level 15, not Level 20. More information is available in the guild guide.

Base Missions, Technology, and Guild Progression
Base Level is separate from the Technology tree, the Pal Condenser, the Statue of Power, and individual structure upgrades. Base Missions do not award the Technology points needed to unlock requested structures. If a mission asks for a building you cannot yet construct, unlock it in the Technology menu first, then build it.
The Base Level and available base count are guild-wide, but the physical mission checks are tied to the base whose Palbox you are using. A Pal assigned at another base generally will not count toward a deployment requirement at the current base, and a Crude Oil Extractor built at another base may not satisfy the current mission.

- Confirm the item was built. Unlocking a structure in Technology does not count.
- Check the base boundary. The structure must be inside the active Palbox’s area. The boundary does not grow when the Base Level increases.
- Check the correct Palbox. You may be viewing a mission at a different base from the one where the building or workers are located.
- Assign the required workers to this base. The deployment checks occur at Levels 1, 4, 8, and 12, requiring 1, 4, 8, and 12 working Pals respectively.
- Inspect the structure. It may have been dismantled, destroyed, or replaced.
- Rebuild questionable structures. If a building was made before the mission appeared, outside the base, or at another base, dismantle it and rebuild it inside the active base boundary.
- Check the world worker setting. A custom limit lower than the mission requirement can create a deadlock. For example, a world capped at 11 workers cannot complete the Level 12 requirement for 12 deployed Pals until the setting is raised.
Does Upgrading a Base Expand Its Area?
No. Base upgrades increase progression-related limits, but they do not enlarge the Palbox circle. Choose the Palbox location with enough room for beds, plantations, production lines, and later mission structures. Buildings outside the boundary may also be affected by structure deterioration unless that setting is disabled. See the Palworld bases reference.
Moving a Palbox or Base
There is no move command that preserves a Palbox in its original position. To relocate a base, use the map or base controls to dismantle the Palbox, then build a new one elsewhere. Dismantling the Palbox removes the base’s ownership area and can affect structures inside it, so manually dismantle important structures first if you need to recover their materials. The relocation process is also covered by GameSpot’s Palworld base-location guide.
Outdated Base Upgrade Information to Ignore
- The current Base Level cap is 35, not 30.
- The second guild base unlocks at Level 8, not 10.
- The third guild base unlocks at Level 15, not 20.
- Level 35 does not provide 35 workers; the theoretical progression stops at 30.
- Default settings do not provide the full theoretical worker limit at every level; they cap each base at 15 workers.
- Base upgrades do not expand the Palbox boundary.
- Combat and character XP do not level a base; Palbox Base Missions do.
- A structure at any guild base does not reliably satisfy every mission. Build and check requirements at the active base.
The progression above reflects the 1.0 game data and remains applicable through version 1.0.2, whose listed changes did not alter Base Level requirements or rewards.
