Every Valheim Boss in Order (1.0, 2026) and How to Defeat Them

Valheim has eight Forsaken bosses in progression order: Eikthyr, The Elder, Bonemass, Moder, Yagluth, The Queen, Fader and Kall Fimbulbringer. The first five lead through the original biomes; The Queen gates the Ashlands, Fader is the Ashlands boss, and Kall Fimbulbringer is the Deep North capstone added with Valheim 1.0 on September 9, 2026.

Every boss is a biome progression gate. You locate its Vegvisir or other clue, reach the altar or arena, offer the required item, and survive a fight built around that biome’s hazards. Upgraded equipment, high-quality food, the right resistance mead, spare ammunition, cleared surroundings and a safe recovery route matter more than simply carrying the highest possible damage number.

Valheim boss order and requirements at a glance

Iron Gate describes the progression rule plainly: “Each biome has its own boss, which must be defeated in order to venture further.” You can explore ahead of the intended route, but the Forsaken are designed to unlock the next stage of equipment and exploration.

Order Boss and biome Summon offering Useful damage approach Signature danger Preparation priority Known reward or unlock
1 Eikthyr — Meadows Two Deer Trophies Early-game melee or bow; punish recovery windows Lightning charge and antler sweep Best available food, shield, bow and stamina for dodges Stamina-focused Forsaken power
2 The Elder — Black Forest Three Ancient Seeds Fire arrows or another dependable fire source Projectile vines and Greydwarf pressure Bronze weapons, buckler, fire arrows and pillar cover Defeating the Black Forest gatekeeper
3 Bonemass — Swamp Ten Withered Bones Blunt damage, especially a mace or two-handed hammer Poison cloud, thrown blob and summoned adds Poison-resistance mead, strong food and stamina reserve Wishbone for the next exploration step
4 Moder — Mountains Three Dragon Eggs Reliable ranged damage while airborne Frost breath, tail sweep and mountain wildlife Frost resistance, mountain food, repaired bow and arrows Defeating the Mountain gatekeeper
5 Yagluth — Plains Five Fuling Totems Frost-oriented ranged damage is the common safe plan Meteor and breath attacks plus Plains spawns Prebuilt cover, fire resistance, high-health food and ammunition reserve Defeating the Plains gatekeeper
6 The Queen — Mistlands Required seal/key progression item; exact current name is not stated in the available references Ranged or magic damage while controlling Seekers Teleporting movement, swarms and cramped arena routes Endgame Mistlands equipment, healing, stamina or Eitr food Must be defeated before entering the Ashlands
7 Fader — Ashlands Exact current 1.0 offering is not stated; verify the live item description Use the strongest current Ashlands options and documented weakness Area attacks, lava exposure and local spawns Fully upgraded Ashlands gear, fire and environmental protection, healing and a safe portal route Ashlands progression
8 Kall Fimbulbringer — Deep North Exact current 1.0 offering is not stated; verify the live item description Use fully upgraded Deep North equipment and the current resistance table Endgame arena hazards and cold exposure Best food and healing, layered cold protection, cleared arena and fallback base Final Forsaken encounter in the 1.0 order

The first six offerings and tactical weaknesses are established in current progression references. Fader and Kall are the release-sensitive entries: their exact offerings, attack details and resistance interactions should be checked against the current 1.0 game data rather than copied from an older pre-release guide.

Preparation that applies to every Forsaken

A boss arena is rarely isolated from the rest of its biome. A failed summon can leave you fighting the boss, its summoned creatures and ordinary enemies at the same time. Prepare the approach as deliberately as the fight.

  • Upgrade before you summon. Bring the best armor, weapon, shield and bow that your current progression can make, and repair everything at a workbench or forge. A weapon that breaks during a long encounter turns a manageable fight into a recovery mission.
  • Cook for the encounter. Use the highest-quality food available to you, balancing health and stamina for melee bosses and adding Eitr food when your Mistlands strategy uses magic. Do not enter with a nearly empty food timer.
  • Carry the relevant resistance. Poison resistance is the key Swamp preparation; frost resistance is essential in the Mountains and remains important in the Deep North; fire resistance is valuable for the Plains and Ashlands. Resistances reduce the punishment for a mistake but do not replace movement.
  • Bring a real ammunition reserve. Moder and Yagluth can spend significant time outside melee range. Carry more arrows than the optimistic minimum and a repaired backup bow where the fight is expected to be long.
  • Scout the arena first. Locate the altar, identify pillars, corridors, elevation changes and potential cover, then clear nearby Greydwarfs, wolves, drakes, Fulings, deathsquitos, Seekers or Ashlands wildlife before placing the offering.
  • Build a recovery route. Establish a portal or another fallback route outside the arena, with a safe landing point and supplies. Keep the route usable if the first attempt creates a tombstone in a dangerous location.
  • Learn the telegraphs. Most attacks are readable: wait for the charge, sweep, breath, meteor or ranged volley to finish, then use the recovery window. Spending every point of stamina on attacks leaves none for the dodge that actually saves the attempt.

How to locate, summon and stage a boss fight

  1. Find the location clue. Search for the biome’s Vegvisir or other location marker. It points toward the relevant altar or arena; discovering the marker is separate from collecting the offering.
  2. Collect the offering safely. Farm trophies, seeds, bones, eggs or totems before committing to the summon. Store a replacement set at a secure base when the material is difficult to recover.
  3. Inspect the site. Look for spawn points and terrain that can trap a corpse run. Clear ordinary enemies and mark the safest approach from your portal or fallback base.
  4. Set up supplies outside the arena. Place the recovery portal or route where the boss cannot immediately camp it, and carry spare food, arrows, healing and resistance mead.
  5. Offer the required items. Interact with the altar or arena and place the exact offering listed for that boss. For The Queen, Fader and Kall, confirm the current in-game item name because the available references do not establish every release-specific label.
  6. Fight around the terrain. Keep a clear loop for movement, use pillars or cover when the boss permits it, and avoid running into unexplored ground where additional biome enemies can join.

Eikthyr: the Meadows movement test

Summon

At the Meadows altar, offer two Deer Trophies. The material is an early-game hunt, so collect it before you are ready to fight and keep a second set if you want an immediate retry.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best way to defeat Eikthyr

Eikthyr teaches the habits used by every later boss: read the animation, preserve stamina and attack during recovery. Bring the best early-game food you can cook, a shield for mistimed contact and a bow for safe damage while you learn the pattern. Circle rather than sprint in a straight line. When the lightning charge or antler sweep finishes, step in for a short attack string, then disengage before the next telegraph.

Do not spend the whole stamina bar on a long melee combo. A dodge, block or short reposition is more valuable than one extra swing, particularly when the arena has uneven ground. If the fight moves away from the altar, keep your route back clear rather than chasing into unknown Meadows terrain.

Reward

Eikthyr’s trophy grants a stamina-focused Forsaken power. It is especially useful for travel and early combat, when stamina is often the limiting resource.

The Elder: fire and pillar discipline in the Black Forest

Summon

At the Ancient Bowl, offer three Ancient Seeds. Gather them from the Black Forest’s relevant enemies and secure the arena before activating the bowl.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best way to defeat The Elder

Fire arrows provide the practical pressure recommended by current progression guides. Start with a bronze weapon, a buckler and a full quiver, then fight around the altar’s stone pillars. The pillars block the projectile vines and let you break line of sight without abandoning the arena.

Keep Greydwarfs from surrounding you, but do not run so far that The Elder’s attacks and your own firing lanes become difficult to read. When the vines finish, emerge, fire a controlled volley and return to cover. If you choose melee during a landing or recovery, make the exchange brief; the fight is safer when the pillars, rather than your armor’s durability, absorb the repeated ranged pressure.

Bonemass: poison management and blunt damage in the Swamp

Summon

Offer ten Withered Bones at the Swamp altar. The arena’s wet ground and nearby creatures make a prepared supply route particularly important.

Best way to defeat Bonemass

Brew poison-resistance mead before entering. Bonemass is inefficiently damaged by slash, pierce and most ranged attacks, so use a mace or two-handed hammer and keep the fight at close range when a safe opening appears. The goal is not constant aggression; it is controlled blunt hits between poison clouds and thrown blobs.

Tribes of Midgard: Deluxe Edition - PlayStation 4
  • Explore a bright Norse realm: discover dungeons, slay legendary beasts, and build anywhere as you explore formidable, procedurally-generated lands on your quest to take on Ragnarok.
  • Face colossal game-changers: protect the speed of Yggdrasil from a nightly invasion of helthings, and work together with your tribe to withstand the ever-looming threat of the jotnar.
  • Forge your Viking Legend: choose your class and take the battle into the wilds as you seek resources to craft epic armor and mighty weaponry. Then, unleash powerful abilities and prepare clever village defenses to give your enemies some nasty surprises.
  • Rally the tribe: when the giants arrive, it takes a village to bring them down! Adventure through midgard solo, or form a tribe of up to 10 players in online pve co-op.
  • Keep up the fight: throughout the year, limited time seasonal events bring bigger challenges and even mightier treasures to the endgame of midgard, including new ways to progress and unlockable rewards for use across every game.

Save stamina for the poison cloud and for repositioning away from the thrown blob. When Bonemass summons adds, kill or kite them immediately rather than allowing a pile of enemies to build behind you. Use the surrounding terrain to break line of sight and create a clean path around the arena, but avoid backing into deep water or unscouted swamp spawns.

Reward

Bonemass drops the Wishbone, which opens the next exploration step by helping you locate hidden resources. That reward is why the fight is a progression gate, not merely an optional victory.

Moder: survive the airborne phases in the Mountains

Summon

Place three Dragon Eggs at the Mountain altar. Eggs are heavy and the approach is dangerous, so stage them near a secure route before you begin the encounter.

Best way to defeat Moder

Bring frost resistance, strong mountain food, a fully repaired bow and ample arrows. Moder spends substantial time airborne, making ranged damage the dependable baseline. When she lands, punish briefly, then move before the frost breath or tail sweep catches you.

Prepare a sheltered fighting position and remove nearby drakes and wolves before the summon. Cover lets you survive an unexpected flight pattern, while a cleared arena prevents a wolf or drake from turning a single missed dodge into a chain of interruptions. Keep enough stamina to reach cover and avoid standing beneath the dragon while focusing on a long attack sequence.

Yagluth: cover, frost pressure and Plains control

Summon

Offer five Fuling Totems at the Plains altar. Scout the altar before placing them; deathsquitos and roaming Fulings can arrive from outside the immediate arena.

Best way to defeat Yagluth

Build or identify cover before starting. Current guides commonly approach Yagluth with frost-oriented ranged damage, which lets you keep attacking while respecting the boss’s area attacks. Keep moving around the meteor and breath attacks instead of trying to trade damage in place.

Fire resistance, high-health food and a reserve bow or ammunition matter because the fight is long and mistakes compound. Clear Fulings and deathsquitos before the summon and keep the movement loop free of new enemies. If cover is destroyed or your route becomes crowded, reposition deliberately; sprinting blindly can place you outside the prepared arena and into more Plains spawns.

The Queen: control the Mistlands arena before it controls you

Summon and staging

Locate the sealed Mistlands arena and use the required seal or key progression item. The available current references do not state one universal item name, so verify the exact requirement in your live 1.0 game. Clear the entrance and nearby Seekers before committing to the fight, then make sure the corridors and exits remain usable.

Best way to defeat The Queen

Enter with endgame Mistlands equipment, plenty of healing and enough stamina or Eitr food for the build you are using. The Queen’s teleporting movement and Seeker swarms make uncontrolled space the main failure point. Ranged or magic damage allows you to maintain distance while you remove adds and wait for a safe opening.

Do not let corpses, summons or fleeing Seekers clog the routes you need for a retreat. Fight in a loop that preserves an exit, bring enough supplies for a long attempt and clear adds immediately when they threaten to surround you. Iron Gate recommends defeating The Queen before traveling to the Ashlands, so treat this victory as the final preparation check for the next biome rather than an optional detour.

Fader: the Ashlands’ late-game progression fight

Summon and preparation

Fader is the Ashlands-era boss and represents a severe progression step. The currently available references do not establish a definitive 1.0 altar offering, so confirm the live item description and altar interaction before spending rare materials.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Arrive with fully upgraded Ashlands gear, fire and environmental protection, high-end food, healing supplies and a portal route that cannot be cut off by lava or local spawns. Clear the approach and establish a recovery position before the summon. Because Ashlands terminology and balance can change between patches, check the current in-game weakness information rather than relying on an older resistance chart.

Best way to defeat Fader

Keep the arena clear and stay mobile around area attacks. Preserve stamina for emergency dodges instead of converting every point into damage. Use the strongest current Ashlands weapons and resistance options, and do not begin until the recovery route has been tested. If the arena fills with ordinary Ashlands enemies, disengage toward the prepared route, remove the adds and return only when the movement space is safe again.

Kall Fimbulbringer: the Deep North capstone

Summon and preparation

Current 1.0 boss references place Kall Fimbulbringer in the Deep North as the final Forsaken. The Deep North launched with Valheim 1.0 on September 9, 2026. The exact offering, arena mechanics and resistance table are release-sensitive, so verify them against the latest in-game descriptions or official patch documentation before the attempt.

Use fully upgraded Deep North equipment, the highest-quality food and healing, layered cold protection and a cleared arena. Establish a reliable portal or fallback base outside the combat space and protect it from local spawns and environmental hazards. Save consumables for the final phase rather than assuming the opening will reveal the complete pattern.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best way to defeat Kall

Treat Kall as an endgame capstone. Stay mobile around area attacks, preserve stamina for emergency dodges and coordinate target priority in co-op so players do not split attention between the boss and newly spawned threats. In solo play, keep the route simple and retreat early enough to preserve the recovery option. Do not commit rare offerings until the live game identifies the correct weakness and arena behavior for your patch.

What to do after a failed attempt

  1. Secure the route first. If the tombstone is inside an active arena, approach only after nearby ordinary enemies are cleared and your resistance, food and equipment are restored.
  2. Recover with a purpose. Bring a spare weapon, shield or bow when the first attempt consumed durability. A rescue run without functioning equipment can create a second tombstone.
  3. Diagnose the failure. If you died to a status effect, change the resistance mead; if stamina ran out, replace one damage food with a stamina option; if adds overwhelmed you, improve the clear order and arena preparation rather than merely adding damage.
  4. Rebuild the arena loop. Remove new spawns, restore cover where possible and confirm that the portal or fallback route remains reachable before resummoning.
  5. Change one variable at a time. Testing a different weapon, food balance or position makes the next attempt informative. Changing everything at once hides the real cause of the failure.

Which boss should you prepare for next?

Use the intended order unless you have a specific reason to take on a later biome early. Eikthyr tests movement, The Elder adds cover and ranged pressure, Bonemass demands resistance and damage-type discipline, Moder adds sustained aerial combat, and Yagluth combines long-range pressure with Plains hazards. The Queen then requires endgame space control, while Fader and Kall demand the largest preparation margin because they occupy the Ashlands and Deep North endgame steps.

The practical rule is consistent across all eight encounters: find the altar, clear the surroundings, bring the biome’s resistance and best available food, match damage to the documented weakness, and keep a recovery route outside the arena. That preparation is what turns each Forsaken from a repeated corpse run into a controlled progression fight.
