FINAL FANTASY XIV: Evercold is Square Enix’s announced sixth expansion, currently planned for January 2027. Its story heads to the icy Fourth reflection, and announced additions include two new jobs, a level-cap increase to 110, new realmships and city, and major combat and reward-system changes. There is no exact launch date or confirmed price yet, and Square Enix says the announced content may change before release.
What is Evercold?
Evercold is the next announced expansion for FINAL FANTASY XIV. Square Enix describes it as the game’s sixth expansion and frames the adventure as a journey to the Fourth reflection—a world lost to ice—in response to a new threat called the Solstice. The story follows the aftermath of the Warrior of Light’s previous victory and the cost of that triumph. Square Enix’s Evercold teaser site and official Lodestone announcement present the expansion as in development, so story and feature details should be treated as announced plans rather than final specifications.

When does Evercold come out, and what platforms are confirmed?
Square Enix currently lists a January 2027 release window. The official platform list includes PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Windows, Mac, and Steam. The reviewed official pages do not give an exact day or a complete regional storefront schedule, so availability may vary by region and should be checked with the relevant platform closer to launch.
No price, preorder date, or physical-retail edition has been confirmed in those announcements. That means the January 2027 window is the firmest public timing detail, not a specific launch-day promise.

What jobs and progression changes are announced?
Bastion and a physical ranged DPS job
Evercold is set to add two jobs. Bastion is a main tank wielding the Skyltborg weapon and is playable in Evolved Mode only. Square Enix has also announced a physical ranged DPS job, but its name is not stated in the official page text reviewed for this article.
Level cap and character options
The level cap is planned to rise from 100 to 110. Square Enix has also listed expanded character customization and customizable action animations among the expansion’s features; detailed limits and implementation specifics have not yet been provided in the reviewed material.

What new places and activities are coming?
The central new locations are two massive realmships belonging to the Fourth: Naglfar, Realmship of Water, and Hringhorni, Realmship of Fire. The expansion’s new city is Fargarth. Square Enix has also announced new areas, dungeons, trials, FATEs, hunts, treasure hunts, gear, crafting recipes, allies, and threats, without publishing a complete activity list in the material reviewed here.
How are combat and rewards changing?
Reborn Mode and Evolved Mode
Evercold will introduce a new battle system with Reborn Mode and Evolved Mode. The modes do not apply to limited jobs, and new jobs introduced in the expansion can only be played in Evolved Mode. The announcement also describes an Armoury update, but does not yet provide enough detail to explain every practical change to job and gear management.

Seasons and auto content balancing
A redesigned reward and item-level framework called Seasons is announced, along with auto content balancing in specified parts of the game. Square Enix says this includes party matching across different level ranges, adjusted duty balance, level-balanced field enemies, and adjusted drop rates and item levels for certain rewards. The official overview does not yet spell out all the rules, reward schedules, or the full list of content covered.
Main-scenario progression
Square Enix says it will make changes to main-scenario progression. The announcement does not describe the precise route changes or how they will affect individual quests, so the scope is not yet clear.

What raids and crossover content are planned?
- Alliance raid: EVANGELION – Ghosts of Desire, the announced Evangelion collaboration raid series. Square Enix’s crossover announcement confirms its role as Evercold’s alliance raid; further details were not included in that notice.
- Raid series: Beyond the Lifestream.
- Ultimate: A new Ultimate raid.
- Eight-player difficulty: A new difficulty level is planned between Normal and Savage.
The expansion announcement also lists new trials and other threats, but does not provide their full names or schedules in the reviewed pages.

Square Enix says players can enjoy some updates without purchasing the expansion, including overarching game-design changes, the new battle system, PvP updates, and Duty Support updates. The announcement does not map every item in the feature list to a purchase requirement. It also cautions that some listed content may arrive through patches and may not be playable immediately after purchase, so ownership of Evercold should not be taken to mean every announced feature launches on day one.

What is known about chocobos, PvP, and other updates?
The announced updates also include changes to PvP, Duty Support, and Chocobo companions. Chocobo raising is set for an overhaul, and players will be able to call chocobos to help in dungeons. The overview does not yet outline the full raising-system changes or exactly how dungeon assistance will work.
What trailers and artwork has Square Enix shown?
A Lodestone update about Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin says the event brought a second trailer, a first look at Bastion, landscapes from the Fourth, and a new Yoshitaka Amano illustration. The official Evercold media page lists an extended teaser trailer and short features focused on Bastion, Naglfar, Hringhorni, and Fargarth.
