What is Riftbound? It’s Riot Games’ physical League of Legends trading card game, where players use champions, armies and spells to fight for control of battlefields. Riot says it supports two to four players, with both head-to-head and multiplayer play.
How does Riftbound work?
Riot describes Riftbound as “A strategic card game where Champions fight for control of battlefields.” Players choose a champion and use that champion alongside an army and spells to contest battlefields. The broad idea is battlefield control; the exact scoring, turn sequence, card timing and victory conditions are defined in the current Core Rules, not by a simplified overview.

The rules hub says the Core Rules cover deckbuilding, timing and resolution of cards and abilities, and the order of effects. Its linked rules were last updated July 16, 2026. Consult the official Riftbound rules hub for the precise rules, along with patch notes and errata.

Riot’s FAQ says Riftbound is for two to four players. The official overview names 1v1 and four-player free-for-all play, so it can suit a duel or a small group. The sources cited here do not establish additional player-count formats.

What is the best Riftbound starter set?
Proving Grounds for learning with a group
Proving Grounds is Riot’s guided beginner box for two to four players. It includes prebuilt decks featuring Annie, Master Yi, Lux and Garen, and is designed for immediate play with upgrade suggestions as part of the learning experience. It is the clearest choice if you want an introduction for a small group rather than a randomized collection of cards.
The Riot Merch Store page displayed $39.99 when accessed October 7, 2026. That is the listed price on that page at that time, not a guaranteed price at other retailers or a promise of current stock. The page describes the English product and requires a Riot ID to purchase.

Champion Decks for a ready-made individual deck
Riot’s English launch guide lists preconstructed Champion Decks featuring Viktor, Jinx and Lee Sin. They provide a defined starting deck, unlike boosters, which contain randomized cards.

The launch guide describes booster packs with 14 cards each and displays with 24 packs. These are randomized products for expanding a collection; they do not offer the same known, ready-to-play deck as a preconstructed product.

Sleeves and playmats as optional accessories
Riot’s launch guide also lists Riftbound sleeves and playmats. They are accessories rather than a way to get a playable deck, and the cited guide does not establish a specific sleeve size or current availability.
What is the current Riftbound release and set context?
Riot’s FAQ says Riftbound released in English on October 31, 2025. As of October 7, 2026, Riot’s August roadmap schedules Radiance as the game’s fifth set, with English, Chinese and French launches on October 23, 2026. That date is still in the future as of October 7, so Radiance is scheduled—not yet released at that point.

Riot’s Radiance Booster Display page describes 14-card packs drawn from a 180-card pool, including more than 60 Showcase cards, with 24 packs per display. The product page showed the display as out of stock when accessed October 7, 2026. These details apply to Radiance and can change with availability.

For a first game, start with Proving Grounds if you want guided play for a group, or choose a Champion Deck if you want a defined individual deck. Once you know you want to collect or customize, boosters offer randomized cards. Use Riot’s current rules hub for exact gameplay rather than relying on a basic product description.
