EXODUS is an upcoming single-player, third-person science-fiction action-adventure RPG from Archetype Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast. Its defining idea is relativistic time dilation: Jun Aslan can spend days or weeks traveling near the speed of light while years, decades, or longer pass for people left behind. Every mission therefore changes more than Jun’s location. It can alter friendships, families, crew politics, and the civilization Jun returns to.
The official launch listing gives April 7, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Because the game is unreleased, the systems below separate demonstrated or officially described features from mechanics that Archetype has only said it will explain later.

What is EXODUS?
EXODUS is a narrative-focused action RPG set after humanity abandons a dying Earth. People escape aboard enormous ark ships, and some eventually reach the Centauri Cluster. Those early arrivals send the Green Signal, inviting the rest of humanity to follow. The invitation sounds simple, but near-light-speed travel makes the setting’s history radically asynchronous: different human populations experience very different amounts of elapsed time.
Jun Aslan begins as a scrappy salvager and becomes a Traveler. Jun leads a crew through the Centauri Cluster, investigates the remains of older civilizations, and searches for Celestial Remnants—advanced technology connected to the setting’s powerful human-descended Celestials. The immediate existential danger is the Rot, described in the 2026 gameplay announcement as a Celestial virus pushing humanity toward extinction.

That combination gives EXODUS a more specific dramatic question than “who wins the next space battle?” Jun must decide what humanity can recover, whom the crew can trust, and which sacrifices are acceptable when a round trip may outlast the people and institutions Jun left behind.
How does time dilation work in EXODUS?
Time dilation is both the setting’s physical rule and its central consequence system. According to Archetype Entertainment’s April 2, 2024 time-dilation Q&A, nothing travels faster than light. As a Traveler approaches that limit, less time passes for the Traveler than for the rest of the galaxy.

The official example is deliberately easy to understand: a mission to a star system three light-years away can take only days for the Traveler while approximately six years pass for people left behind on a round trip, assuming the mission proceeds as planned. Jun can therefore know the approximate number of years being sacrificed before departure. A decision to accept a mission is also a decision about absence.
EXODUS does not treat this as a temporary power, a device that can be switched off, or a skill that lets Jun bypass consequences. The official Q&A describes time dilation as an immutable law and calls it “the one enemy Travelers cannot escape.” The important distinction from a conventional branching RPG is that consequences are measured not only in changed dialogue or alternate scenes, but in which people, generations, and political structures still exist when Jun returns.
How did humanity reach the Centauri Cluster?
Humanity leaves a dying Earth in the 23rd century aboard ark ships. Some ships arrive in the Centauri Cluster first and broadcast the Green Signal to the remaining diaspora. The Traveler’s Guide says tens of thousands of years can pass for the people who sent that signal while early voyagers are still making their journeys.
This history prevents the setting from being a standard “humans colonize space” story. Populations descended from the same species have had radically different amounts of time to adapt, develop technologies, and build societies. The Celestials represent the most advanced of these human-descended powers, and their remnants are among the technologies Jun seeks.

For Jun’s crew, an ancient facility is not merely a dungeon containing useful equipment. It can be evidence of a civilization that experienced history on a different clock, with motives and values that may no longer be recognizable to contemporary Travelers.
Who is Jun Aslan, and what is the Rot?
Jun is introduced as a resourceful salvager rather than an established military hero. Becoming a Traveler places Jun in the position of leading missions across dangerous worlds and derelict facilities while making choices that affect companions, the crew, and people back home.
The Rot is the immediate threat described in the official 2026 gameplay announcement. It is a Celestial virus driving humanity toward extinction. The conflict is therefore not simply a search for treasure: Celestial technology may be the key to survival, but recovering it means entering places filled with hostile forces and deciding how much risk the crew should accept.
What do you do during a typical EXODUS mission?
Confirmed footage and official feature descriptions establish a loop of third-person real-time combat, exploration, recovery of Celestial Remnants, and consequential decisions. The final mission count, map sizes, and progression economy have not been fully disclosed.
Fight through dangerous worlds and facilities
Combat is presented from a third-person perspective, with Jun confronting threats in alien environments and the remnants of ancient or fallen civilizations. Public demonstrations show action encounters integrated into exploration rather than a separate turn-based layer.

Jun’s crew searches dangerous sites for Celestial Remnants. These discoveries connect the playable missions to the wider history of the Centauri Cluster and to the technology that Travelers need. Bring companions into the field
Human and Awakened companions can fight alongside Jun. Awakened characters are part of everyday society as merchants, soldiers, medics, and companions, rather than being restricted to a single enemy or faction role.
Make decisions under pressure
The 2026 gameplay reveal shows Jun, Elise, and Tom deciding whether to open an airlock and purge hostiles when innocent people may be present. The example illustrates the intended design: some choices resolve immediately, while others take time to affect the crew, the story, or people back home. It should not be read as a complete map of every branching outcome.

Those alignments should not be confused with a published good-versus-evil chart. Current official material establishes that they define parts of Jun’s path, but it has not yet detailed every threshold, ability interaction, or reset rule. Is EXODUS an open-world space simulator?
