The products are cosmetic replacement parts—not a console, electronic upgrade, or plug-on cover—and installation involves opening the hardware. The company said preorders were open and shipping would start that month; that was its announced schedule, not confirmation of current availability.
What eXtremeRate announced
In a September 17, 2025 release distributed through PR Newswire, eXtremeRate said preorders had opened for a Switch 2 customization lineup. It listed five product types:
- A full console shell and button set, called the Deluxe Edition.
- A Joy-Con full shell and button set, also called the Deluxe Edition.
- A Joy-Con full shell and button set with a D-pad.
- A console backplate without a stand.
- A full button set with a D-pad.
The release said shipping would start in September 2025. It also described the range as the “world’s first available customization shells for the new console”; that is eXtremeRate’s claim, not an independently verified first-to-market finding. The company’s statements about OEM-grade molds, matte finishes, comfort, durability, installation tools and instructions, and a replacement-parts guarantee are likewise manufacturer claims.
How the kit types differ
The announcement describes products with different scopes and button layouts. It does not provide a complete, current catalog or enough detail to compare every kit’s contents or construction.

Official product pages show examples of the range’s appearance, including clear Essence styles and a glow-in-the-dark Deluxe design. Those examples do not establish that every style is offered for every kit type.
Compatibility and what is in the box
The official product page for the Essence Clear Slate Black full set says it is made for Nintendo Switch 2 only; it is not compatible with the original Switch, Switch Lite, or Switch OLED. The listing describes replacement shells and colorful buttons, not a complete console or electronic parts.

That listing says its package includes a console backplate, Joy-Con 2 shell pieces and buttons, screws, a cross/triwing screwdriver, an opening tool, and tweezers. eXtremeRate says the installed kit remains compatible with Joy-Con 2 magnetic release and lock and with dock mode. These details apply to the cited Essence set and should not automatically be assumed for every kit in the lineup.
Installation is a substantial disassembly project
eXtremeRate rates the Essence Clear Slate Black installation “High” difficulty, recommends moderate experience with electronic disassembly, and estimates at least one hour. Its Deluxe Glow in Dark listing also rates installation high and estimates at least 1.5 hours; the glow material needs 20–30 minutes of exposure to light beforehand. These are manufacturer estimates and guidance, not independent installation test results.

The seller advises switching off the console, keeping screws organized, using the correct screwdriver, and taking care with small flex cables and clips. It warns that disassembling the device may affect warranty support. Treat these kits as a project for someone comfortable opening electronics, rather than as external covers that install without taking the hardware apart.

The September 2025 announcement said “Pre-orders Open: September 2025” and “Shipping Starts: September 2025.” It described eXtremeRate’s Amazon Store as “Switch 2 Series Coming Soon.” That historical announcement does not confirm a current Amazon listing or current stock.

When accessed, the official pages reviewed displayed $29.99 for the Essence Clear Slate Black set and $48.99 for the Deluxe Glow in Dark set, and both showed “Sold out.” These are dated listing snapshots, not current price or stock guarantees, and they do not establish availability for other colors or kit types. Check the exact listing’s Switch 2 compatibility and what it includes before buying.
