Start by exploring methodically, checking the map often, and learning a few moves before adding more to your combat routine. In F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch, exploration and combat feed into each other: new routes and abilities open up Torch City, while combos build the resource used for powerful SP skills.
How should you explore Torch City?
Torch City is a maze of interconnected routes. The map fills in as you explore, so check it regularly to understand where you have been and spot paths worth revisiting. PlayStation describes the game as spanning more than a dozen areas, with hidden rooms, secret passages, and shortcuts (PlayStation’s official game page; TiGames’ beginner tips).

If you reach a blocked route, remember where it is and return after finding another weapon or ability. Some equipment has uses beyond combat, including breaking mechanical barriers. A route that is inaccessible now may become useful later; an incomplete map is not a sign that you missed the only way forward.
What should you learn first at Legion terminals?
Legion terminals let you learn mechanical skills using in-game money. Advanced skills also require Data Disks, so spend resources according to what you can afford and the moves you want to try. TiGames level designer Zhongyuan Liu recommends picking up skills at terminals and experimenting with a combo style that suits you (PlayStation.Blog beginner guide).

Build your foundation around ordinary attacks, then add options gradually. TiGames lead designer Xuedong Song describes a basic combo idea as starting with light attacks and finishing with a heavy attack. Throws, jumps, dashes, cancels, weapon changes, and SP skills add possibilities, but you do not need to master them all at once (Unreal Engine interview with TiGames).
Combos also build SP. Use regular attacks to build that resource, then spend it on an SP skill when a stronger special attack would help. Treat SP as a combat resource to generate and spend, rather than something to save indefinitely.
When should you switch weapons?
Rayton’s three weapons suit different situations. PlayStation describes the Fist as emphasizing combos, the Drill as emphasizing damage, and the Whip as emphasizing range. Switch to match the enemy or the task rather than relying on one weapon for every encounter (PlayStation’s official game page).

Once you have acquired the Drill and Whip, you can switch between them at any time, according to Liu’s beginner guide. The weapons arrive as you progress, so do not expect every option to be available from the opening.

How can you stay alive?
Carrot Juice is a healing item sold by Wang, who is at the foot of Torch Tower. Check his stock when you need a way to recover, and make use of auxiliary devices as you acquire them (PlayStation.Blog beginner guide).
Parry is another defensive tool, but you must find it during exploration; it is not a starting ability. A successful parry against a melee attack can leave an enemy exposed, and the guide says it can also send bullets back. The Shock Baton can temporarily simulate Parry’s effect, offering another way to use that defensive approach.
Which optional activities are worth checking?
- Search for Piggy’s Secret Stashes. Strike a stash to collect money; the more you hit it, the more money it yields, according to TiGames’ beginner guide.
- Talk to Torch City residents. Ask about their interests and hobbies; conversations can point you toward optional activities.
- Collect movie posters for Urso. The mechanic may customize Rayton’s fist in exchange for posters. This is an optional reward, not a requirement for main progression.
Which version should you choose?
Choose a version for the platform you own. PlayStation’s official page lists PS5 and PS4, while Microids announced physical retail editions for PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. Its announcement placed the European physical release on September 6, 2022, and the North American physical launch on October 4, 2022; those are historical release dates, not confirmation of current stock or price (Microids physical-edition announcement).
Microids also announced a Limited Edition containing the game, a SteelBook, a digital original soundtrack, three lithographs, and a sticker sheet. That describes the announced package, not a guarantee that it remains in production or is currently available.
