How many downloads does Fallout Shelter have?
Bethesda Game Studios reported over 230 million downloads across all platforms in a June 13, 2025 post marking the game’s tenth anniversary. The company’s wording is “downloads,” and the figure is a publisher-reported total, not an independently audited count. Bethesda’s anniversary announcement says the game expanded from iOS to Android, consoles, and Steam over the decade.

In a separate December 15, 2025 announcement, Bethesda said that over 230 million “players” had built, managed, and protected Vaults since launch. That statement uses a different unit and does not say it is an updated download total. The Seasons announcement is best read on its own terms: as Bethesda’s player claim, distinct from its June download count.

Bethesda’s milestones show how the game’s reach was described at different points, but the figures use different measures and scopes. They are not a consistent series from which to calculate a precise growth rate.

These are company statements made at different dates. “Downloads,” “users,” “players,” sessions, and hours played describe different things; the announcements do not establish unique people, repeat installs, platform shares, or a uniform counting method.
What Fallout Shelter is—and how it reached more platforms
Fallout Shelter is a post-nuclear strategy and simulation game. Players build an underground Vault, oversee its Dwellers, and protect them from dangers in the Wasteland. Its surprise iOS debut came in 2015; Bethesda later brought it to Android, consoles, and Steam, according to the anniversary post.

In February 2017, Xbox Wire said the game was available on Xbox One and Windows 10, with progress carrying over between those platforms through Xbox Play Anywhere. That release-era detail helps explain the platform expansion, but it does not establish how downloads were divided among devices or stores.

Yes. Bethesda’s December 2025 announcement introduced Seasons, which it called the game’s biggest update yet. Each Season is a limited-time Vault separate from a player’s main Vault. The debut Season, Viva New Vegas, adds a New Vegas-themed adventure, quests, rewards, and a Season Pass; Bethesda says earned rewards transfer to the main Vault.

The anniversary update had also added characters from the Fallout television series, including Lucy and The Ghoul, as unlockable Vault Dwellers, along with a questline of eight new quests and locations and show-themed themes, weapons, and outfits. These examples show that Bethesda continued adding content; the announcements do not prove that any particular update caused the game’s reported audience size.

The number makes the scale clear, but it cannot explain the game’s staying power by itself. Bethesda’s posts establish the reported totals, platform expansion, and examples of added content; they do not identify why players kept downloading or playing, or show revenue, retention, unique audience size, or the contribution of any one platform or update.

At launch, Bethesda reported strong app-store rankings and more than 70 million play sessions per day during the first week. In the same release, Game Director Todd Howard said the response showed that “gamers appreciate more depth and being treated fairly.” That was Howard’s contemporaneous interpretation, not independent evidence of player motivations.
