Terminal Velocity: Boosted Edition is a straightforward re-release of a fast, arcade-style 1990s combat-flight game, not a comprehensive remake. Reviews point to enjoyable, accessible action and a technical refresh, but also to brief length, dated design, and limited additions. It is a better fit for players who want quick aerial combat than for anyone expecting a modern flight simulator or a substantially rebuilt game.

What is Terminal Velocity: Boosted Edition?

Developed by Terminal Reality and published by Ziggurat Interactive, Terminal Velocity: Boosted Edition brings the original game to modern systems. Steam lists its release date as March 14, 2023, and categorizes it as a single-player action, adventure, and simulation game. The publisher describes the release as running the original game with the Infernal Engine. Steam’s listing and Ziggurat Interactive provide the official product context.

What do the reviews say?

The overall critical picture is of a fun, approachable game whose core action remains appealing, but whose age and modest scope are hard to miss. The Switch review from TechRaptor rated it 7/10. William Worrall praised its smooth controls, presentation, and enjoyable action, while noting bugs and glitches, short length, and few additions. TechRaptor disclosed that it reviewed the Switch version using a publisher-provided code. Read TechRaptor’s review.

PC Gamer characterized the release as largely the same game with technical improvements. Its writer also struggled to find a usable mouse-sensitivity setting; that is a report about the reviewer’s PC experience, not a finding about every input device or subsequent patch. Read PC Gamer’s coverage.

Hey Poor Player likewise found the gameplay dated beside current flight simulators and space shooters, and observed that enemies stop following once they pass a distance threshold. These are review observations rather than independently confirmed, universal bug reports. Read the PC review.

Steam’s storefront showed 84% positive from 52 user reviews in a 2026 access snapshot. That is a changing user-review figure, not a critic score, and should be read as a small, time-sensitive sample. Check Steam’s current user reviews. Metacritic’s listing does not establish a reliable critic aggregate, so there is no defensible Metacritic score to cite here. See the Metacritic listing.

How does the game play?

The game is built around fast, open-feeling combat flight: follow mission objectives, engage enemies, and shoot both air and ground targets. TechRaptor notes that missions can include optional targets, helping the game retain a pick-up-and-play pace rather than demand a long simulation-style commitment.

The publisher’s product description lists nine planets with three levels per planet, dozens of tunnels, seven weapons, and power-ups. It presents the game as a 360-degree combat flight experience with straightforward controls. These are product-description details, not a measure of how much variety each mission provides.

  • FROM THE FAMILY BEHIND GENIUS SQUARE — Genius Connection brings the beloved roll-and-race speed-puzzle format of the award-winning Genius Square to a clever new challenge. Each player gets their own grid; you roll the dice, then race your opponent to solve faster than they can. It's the same addictive mix of speed, logic and strategy that made Genius Square a worldwide hit — now with a path-building twist.
  • THE TWIST: MAKE THE CONNECTION — Roll the dice and place your two yellow pieces as your start and end points. Now the race is on: fit all the remaining puzzle pieces to connect those two points into a single path AND fill your whole grid, before your opponent connects theirs. The path can be short or winding — what matters is speed and a complete board. A fresh challenge for Genius Square fans and a great start for newcomers.
  • TWO WAYS TO PLAY, ENDLESS REPLAY — Genius Connection gives you two modes. Roll the dice for endless random challenges, or work through the 576 card-based puzzles across four levels, from Starter to Master. What does “Boosted Edition” change?

The edition’s additions focus on compatibility and presentation, rather than a redesigned campaign or new core mechanics. According to the publisher’s Steam description, it runs the original natively on modern systems and includes:

  • The original graphics with an improved widescreen HUD.
  • Extended draw distance.
  • Improved sky rendering intended to reduce polygon jitter.
  • Re-engineered sound channels for modern audio output.
  • Achievements and trophies.

Those are publisher-listed features; the available reviews do not independently benchmark performance or verify each technical claim. The coverage does not describe a comprehensive visual remake or substantial expansion of the original game.

Does it hold up, and who should play it?

It holds up best as a compact arcade-action experience. The quick combat, approachable controls, and direct objectives can still be enjoyable if you are happy with an older game’s rhythms and a short, focused scope. The reviews do not support treating it as a modern simulation, a deep campaign, or a major reimagining.

  • A good match: players curious about the original, or those who want uncomplicated aerial combat and can accept dated mechanics.
  • Think twice: players seeking a lengthy campaign, modern flight-simulation depth, or extensive new content.
  • Consider your platform and input: TechRaptor’s favorable control impressions concern the Switch version, while PC Gamer’s mouse-sensitivity complaint reflects one reviewer’s PC experience. The available coverage does not establish a definitive performance or control ranking across platforms.

In short, the subtitle promises less than some readers may expect: this is a technical refresh that keeps the original game’s design, with the resulting appeal and limitations intact.
