The First Descendant introduced Inversion Reinforcement with Season 1: Invasion as a seasonal progression system. Players unlock it through the story, earn Ironheart Particles to level the Inversion Reinforcer, then spend the resulting energy to learn effects. The original system let players activate three learned effects at a time, but its effects reset at season’s end—and later updates changed some of them.
What Inversion Reinforcement does
Inversion Reinforcement represents Descendants changing after repeated contact with Ironhearts. In the August 22, 2024 Season 1 preview, Director Minseok Joo described the story premise: “Descendants experienced a change in their Arche as they’ve come into contact with Ironhearts multiple times.” That is narrative framing, rather than a technical description of the system’s implementation. Nexon’s Dev Note Vol. 12 introduced the concept ahead of the season.

At launch, the system’s five effect categories covered different needs:
- Hunt: basic stats.
- Attribute: attribute resistance.
- Recovery: recovery-related effects.
- Survival: a conditional defensive buff.
- Season: effects intended to help in Invasion Dungeons.
These are the launch categories, not a guarantee that each effect or its balance remains unchanged in the current game.

How to unlock and open it
Nexon’s support instructions say to complete the Normal Difficulty main quests and progress through the Invasion episode quest. The support article identifies “Altered Design” as the main quest that unlocks Inversion Reinforcement. Once unlocked, open the Inversion Reinforcement menu at the lower-left of the Inventory screen. How progression works
- Earn Ironheart Particles. Nexon lists Invasion Infiltration Operations and Hard Difficulty field activities as sources.
- Level the Inversion Reinforcer. Spend Ironheart Particles to increase its level.
- Use Remaining Energy to learn effects. Leveling yields Remaining Energy, which is spent to unlock effects within the system.
- Choose active effects. At launch, players could activate three learned effects at once, with no more than one active effect from any single line.
Nexon’s Inversion Reinforcement System guide and Update 1.1.0 notes document the progression and launch rules. The update notes also say effects applied to all Descendants. Completing all four effects in a line enabled that line’s passive Collection Effect.
Why a launch-era build is not a current recommendation
The launch rules explain how the system began, but they are not enough to rank effects or prescribe a build for the live game. Nexon’s Update 1.3.28, dated May 21, 2026, says some useful effects were retained while others were changed. The same notes state that Inversion Reinforcements are excluded from Arche Activity calculations because they reset each season. Read Nexon’s Update 1.3.28 notes.

Check the in-game descriptions and current patch notes before comparing effect values or choosing a build. A meaningful comparison should account for each effect’s benefit, activation condition, the content where it helps, and the opportunity cost of using one of the three launch-era active slots; the slot limit itself should also be verified for the version being played.

Inversion Reinforcement is seasonal: Nexon’s guide and support article say the system resets at the end of the season. Update 1.2.18 later added three loadout slots and specifies that each loadout’s settings reset at season’s end. Nexon’s Update 1.2.18 notes cover the loadout change.
