It added the Research Sector Crisis Outbreak, three weapons, three grenades, 27 Gun Mods, and broad changes to progression, mission selection, and combat. Remedy then issued hotfixes for unintended difficulty spikes, and later updates changed balance again—so the details below describe Breakpoint, not necessarily the version you play today.
What Breakpoint added
Remedy released Breakpoint as a free update for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The game is a three-player co-op title set in the Control universe. Remedy’s release announcement and 1.6.2 patch notes describe these additions:

Outbreak’s enemies and condition
The named additions to the enemy roster were Mold Walker, Mold Turret, Corrupted Ranger, Corrupted Ranger (Airborne), and Demolition Expert. Outbreak also introduced the harmful Moldy condition, which can transform a player into a Mold Walker. Remedy’s 1.6.2 notes list these as part of the new Crisis.
How Breakpoint changed missions and progression
Job Board replaced by the Crisis Board
The Crisis Board replaced the Job Board with curated, dynamic Crises; the game also renamed Jobs to Crises. Breakpoint added Alternative Objectives that could replace main objectives in Zones 1–2, changing the flow of those early mission areas.

More equipment available at full power
Tools, guns, and grenades unlocked at full power rather than requiring upgrades. Crisis Kits’ Altered Augments and Improvised Devices became fully unlocked at Reputation level 1. The Reputation cap rose from 49 to 200, with new guns, grenades, and level 1 perks unlocking as players leveled.
Reworked currencies and requisitions
Lost Assets and Research Samples were removed and converted into Parts, Samples, and Intel, which are used for cosmetics and Perk upgrades. Trace became the currency for Exotic cosmetics; it drops from Powerful Enemies and Corrupted Items. Requisitions also changed: Essentials was removed, Expressions included cosmetics and gun skins, and Breakpoint and Exotics Requisitions were added. These are the economy and progression rules introduced by 1.6.2, not a guarantee of how later versions work.
Movement, onboarding, and combat adjustments
Breakpoint added sliding and the ability to crawl while downed, alongside a new onboarding flow. It also changed several moment-to-moment interactions:

- Shower and Ammo Station locations became randomized, with the nearest Shower marked on the HUD.
- Picking up items changed from a hold input to a button press.
- Healing feedback became clearer.
- Harmful Conditions became more visually readable and no longer spread between players.
For the historical 1.6.2 balance pass, Remedy said early play was tuned to be less punishing and enemy density and difficulty at higher Threat Levels were balanced. Objectives in Zones 1–2 required 25% fewer completions, single-shot guns had less high recoil, and player stagger became more forgiving. Mission-specific changes included a 50% reduction in Ground Control Leech Pearl radiation damage and removal of ambient heat damage except at Extreme Threat Level. These figures and rules describe the patch’s announced changes; they should not be read as current balance values.

Yes: Remedy issued follow-up hotfixes after 1.6.2. In its 1.6.3 hotfix notes, Remedy said, “A hotfix has been deployed to address difficulty spikes in update 1.6.2.” The update also addressed issues with Survive the Hiss and Recovery. It fixed an endless-wave issue, moved a Powerful Enemy appearance to the end of the Survive the Hiss event, lowered Recovery enemy spawn rates, reduced Hiss Ranger (Airborne) health, and reduced resilient enemy counts on Normal and Easy.
Hotfix 1.6.4 made further adjustments. It set Corrupted Item counts to one on Easy, two on Normal, and three on Hard and Extreme; made Neutralizer or Black Rock Round banishes always drop Trace; increased Trace drops at higher Threats; and made Survive the Hiss and Recover waves less endless on Hard and Extreme.

Which platform versions received Breakpoint?
The following were the launch versions Remedy listed for Breakpoint, not current version numbers. Remedy said Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC would initially be version 1.6.1 at launch, with 1.6.2 following within 24 hours.

Why Breakpoint notes are not a current balance guide
Breakpoint’s changes are a dated snapshot. Remedy’s later major update, Open House 1.9.1, changed harmful conditions and healing, redesigned perk equipping, and adjusted weapon balance and enemy scaling. Its 1.9.1 notes say the Rotary Cannon, Scattergun, and Semi-automatic Rifle had previously outperformed other weapon types, particularly at higher difficulty. For current rules, check the notes for the version installed on your platform rather than relying on Breakpoint’s 1.6.2 values.
