Why “A Better Buildup” may have failed to submit
A September 23, 2022 report by FifaUltimateTeam.it relayed an EA statement that some Squad Building Challenges were not counting as completed even when requirements were met. The report quoted EA as saying: “Several issues currently being investigated on the FIFA 23 Web/Companion Apps, including the issue of some SBCs not counting as completed even when requirements are met.” It also relayed a notice that some SBCs could not be completed “even when requirements are fully met” on all platforms.

What to try if the squad looks eligible
1. Recheck the challenge conditions and midfielders
Verify each visible requirement, paying particular attention to the midfielders’ positions or positional eligibility and the chemistry displayed in the squad. A general FIFA 23 troubleshooting guide from Twinfinite recommends checking chemistry, but this is general advice, not a confirmed fix for this challenge.
2. Try the reported CM/CDM swap
A workaround attributed to player NinjaCiego in the September 2022 FifaUltimateTeam.it report was to use a CDM instead of a CM, swap him with the middle CM, then press submit quickly. In a September 2023 discussion on r/EASportsFC, players described mixed results with CM/CDM assignments and players eligible for both positions. You can try changing the arrangement and submitting promptly, but player reports do not establish that it will work for everyone.

3. Try basic app troubleshooting

Check every item in the squad before confirming. EA’s general Squad Building Challenges guidance for later EA SPORTS FC releases explains that SBC requirements may cover chemistry, player quality, leagues, nations, and clubs, and warns that submitted player items are permanently removed and cannot be restored. That later help page is general guidance; it does not document the FIFA 23 “A Better Buildup” issue.

If the submission still fails
If the checks, position swap, and basic app steps do not resolve it, the reports cited here do not establish a current service-side fix or status. They also provide no measured estimate of how many players were affected. Avoid assuming that repeated submission attempts will work, and do not submit a squad until you are satisfied with the players being exchanged.
