RealSport’s 2019 FIFA 19 guide rates Manchester United at four-and-a-half stars, with 83 attack, 82 midfield and 79 defence. That profile points to a squad with strong attacking and midfield options, while the back line is the lower-rated unit by those figures. Check your save’s roster and budget first
Use the squad file in your own Career Mode save as the final authority for player ratings, contracts and available funds. Historical databases may differ by squad update or display convention, and a guide’s budget is not necessarily the amount shown in your save.

The published budget figures do not match: SoFIFA’s FIFA 19 record dated May 30, 2019 lists €175 million, while RealSport’s guide gives £167 million. Choose a formation for the way you want to play
There is no single proven best formation here. RealSport’s suggestions are useful starting points: choose based on whether you value width, central control or attacking risk, then adjust to the players in your save. RealSport 101’s Manchester United guide

Set roles in the recommended 4-4-2
RealSport’s 4-4-2 setup is a straightforward way to give United a holding midfielder, a more adventurous central partner and two forwards. Use these roles as a starting point rather than fixed instructions.

- Paul Pogba: let him move forward into space to distribute and contribute from range.
- Juan Mata: from the right, instruct him to cut inside and come short to combine and use his left foot.
- Romelu Lukaku: keep him central so he stays close to goal.
- Martial, Alexis Sánchez, Rashford and Jesse Lingard: use their movement and pace to stretch the defence; rotate them or bring them on when you want a different attacking option.
Use Team Management, Game Plans and development tools
EA’s FIFA 19 manual describes Team Management as the place to set formations, player roles and tactics, create and save multiple Team Sheets, and prepare a Game Plan before kickoff. Multiple sheets let you keep different setups ready for an opponent or rest players. For development, the period-specific RealSport guide names Martial, Rashford, Eric Bailly, Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelöf as players to train. It also suggests loaning younger players who are unlikely to get regular minutes. In your save, weigh potential against playing time and squad depth: a prospect who rarely plays may benefit more from a loan, while a player who fits your plans can develop in the first team.

RealSport identifies right back and centre back as positions to consider strengthening, citing Antonio Valencia’s age and defensive depth. It names Joshua Kimmich as a possible right-back signing and Dani Carvajal as an alternative. These are 2018-era Career Mode ideas, not current transfer recommendations; availability, cost, wages and suitability depend on your database, save and negotiation settings.

Use a needs-first shortlist rather than signing a name because a guide suggests it. Compare the position you need, the player’s ratings and potential in your chosen database, the fee and wages your save can support, and whether the move suits your preferred level of realism. You can also free squad space and wage budget by moving on players who do not fit your plan, while keeping a specialist such as Marouane Fellaini if his aerial ability serves a role in your tactics.
