On February 16, 2026, Final Fantasy VII Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi said the third installment was already in a playable state. He also said the team was still refining and building up the experience, so “playable” does not mean finished or ready to buy.
What Hamaguchi said about Part 3
In an interview published by AUTOMATON WEST on February 16, 2026, Hamaguchi described the game as playable and still in active development: “The game is already in a playable state, and right now, we’re in the final push phase, refining and building up the experience.” He added that seeing the game come together through play was helping the team improve its quality.

That is a meaningful development milestone: the team had a build it could play and was using it to refine the experience. It is not evidence that the game was complete, had entered final certification, or was available to the public.
Does playable mean a release date is close?
No release date follows from the playable-state comment. Hamaguchi said development was progressing smoothly and was “almost exactly on schedule” against milestones set at the beginning of the project. That describes the team’s progress against its plan, not a launch commitment.

- Immerse yourself in the city of Midgar like never before, with improved textures, lighting, and background environments
- Players can switch between two game modes: "Graphics Mode" prioritizes 4K high-resolution graphics; "Performance Mode" prioritizes smooth action at 60 frames per second
- Capture and share your memorable moments from the game with a fully customizable “Photo Mode”
- Players can enjoy immersive battles by using the DualSense PlayStation 5 controller with its haptic feedback integration
- Play the brand-new episode featuring Yuffie and experience new combat and gameplay additions
In a later update reported by Nintendo Life on April 29, 2026, Hamaguchi again said development was on time and that preparations for an announcement were underway. The report does not give a confirmed release date. It mentions 2027 as an expectation, not an announced launch window.
What is known—and not known—about the title and platforms?
Nintendo Life reported in April 2026 that an official title existed, but the relevant passage did not name it. It is therefore safer to call the game Part 3 or the third installment rather than guess a subtitle.

The cited comments also do not establish Part 3’s final launch-platform list. Hamaguchi described the studio’s multiplatform process: its team builds high-quality 3D assets with PC as a foundation, then adjusts and optimizes for individual platforms. That is a description of the development approach, not independent performance testing or a promise that every version will be identical.
How porting fits into development
Hamaguchi said a dedicated unit handles ports separately from the team developing Part 3. He said that separation lets him focus on the new installment while supervising porting from a distance. The interview lists platform availability for the earlier games, but those lists do not confirm where Part 3 will launch.

Which games to play before Part 3
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is an earlier entry in the series, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second installment. They are the relevant games to catch up on; neither is Part 3.
- Starting from the beginning: Play Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade first, then Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
- Catching up: If you have already played the earlier entry, Rebirth is the second installment to continue with.
AUTOMATON WEST’s interview lists Intergrade for PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S, and lists Rebirth for PC and PS5. Check current store listings for availability, editions, and platforms, since those can change.
