His explanation describes a strategy of building for high-end hardware, then tuning each version separately—not a promise that every platform will have identical visuals or performance.
What the director said about Part 3’s quality
In an interview published by AUTOMATON WEST on February 16, 2026, Hamaguchi addressed whether developing the trilogy’s final installment for platforms with different capabilities could mean compromising its graphics. He said: “However, our decision to go multiplatform with the FFVII Remake series will not in any way lower the quality of the third installment. Our development structure simply doesn’t work that way to begin with.”

He described the team’s 3D assets as being created “at the highest quality level based on PC as the foundation.” In his account, the developers do not design everything around the least powerful target and then accept that as the standard everywhere. They create for high-end environments first, then review and fine-tune versions for each platform.

How PC-led development and platform optimization are meant to work
Hamaguchi identified CPU, GPU, RAM and storage media as factors the team considers when adapting the game. His point is that a platform’s constraints should be handled through platform-specific optimization, rather than by lowering the asset baseline for every version. These are the director’s explanations of the development approach, not independently measured results.
#1 Best Overall
- Immerse yourself in the city of Midgar like never before, with improved textures, lighting, and background environments
- Players can switch between two game modes: "Graphics Mode" prioritizes 4K high-resolution graphics; "Performance Mode" prioritizes smooth action at 60 frames per second
- Capture and share your memorable moments from the game with a fully customizable “Photo Mode”
- Players can enjoy immersive battles by using the DualSense PlayStation 5 controller with its haptic feedback integration
- Play the brand-new episode featuring Yuffie and experience new combat and gameplay additions
Different performance targets can mean different experiences
As an example of CPU scaling, Hamaguchi described lower-spec systems potentially targeting 30 frames per second while higher-spec systems could target 60 and use extra CPU capacity for greater scene density, such as more NPCs in towns. He did not announce final frame-rate targets for Part 3, and those figures should not be read as confirmed specifications for any version.
Memory and storage are platform-specific considerations
Hamaguchi said the team handles Xbox Series S memory limits through individual optimization instead of imposing those limits on other systems. He also pointed to Switch 2’s Game-Key Card format, which lets players download game data rather than requiring the team to fit it within a cartridge’s capacity. These comments explain how the team says it approaches platform constraints; they do not establish final memory use, download size or physical-media arrangements for Part 3.

What this does—and does not—confirm about PS5, Xbox and Switch 2
The remarks are a statement of intent from the series director, not independent proof of the finished game’s image quality, performance or parity. Separate optimization can preserve a game’s intended presentation while still producing different resolutions, frame rates, asset settings or on-screen density between platforms. Hamaguchi did not provide a final platform-by-platform specification table for the third installment.

Development status and release details remain unconfirmed
In the February 2026 interview, Hamaguchi said a dedicated porting unit works separately from the team making Part 3, allowing him to focus on the new game. He characterized development as on schedule and the game as playable at that time. Those are time-bound comments from the director, not an independently verified schedule or a release-date announcement.
The interview discusses the third installment as the final part of the Remake trilogy, but it does not establish an official release date or a definitive day-one platform list. The director’s remarks about multiplatform development should not be treated as confirmation of when the game will launch or precisely which versions will release together.

The interview also noted that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was available on PC and PS5, with Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S versions scheduled for June 3, 2026. Those are Rebirth details, not Part 3 availability; check current listings for any updated release information.
How to judge the versions when specifications arrive
When Square Enix publishes concrete details or independent comparisons become available, the useful questions are specific: how image quality and asset detail compare, what frame-rate targets are offered, how memory constraints affect each version, whether scene density differs, and what physical-media or download requirements apply. Hamaguchi’s comments set out the development philosophy, but they do not answer those version-by-version questions yet.
