The fastest way to win the Riovanes Castle Roof fight is to make one enemy reach critical status before Rafa is killed. You do not need to defeat Elmdor, Celia, and Lede one by one: focus your opening attacks on a single target, and prioritize getting a unit to act early.
What is the Riovanes Castle Roof fight’s win condition?
The apparent objective is to protect guest Rafa, while Ramza and three other party members face Elmdor, Celia, and Lede. In practice, the classic encounter guide says you can win by bringing one enemy to critical status; eliminating all three is unnecessary. The guide also warns that Rafa may die before your party gets a turn. RPGamer’s classic walkthrough describes the encounter and this short tactical route.

How to improve your opening
Get an attacker moving sooner
If Rafa keeps dying before you can act, make speed the first preparation priority for the unit you expect to move earliest. The classic guide recommends increasing party speed, and players discussing the current release also advise using high-speed units. No cited source establishes an exact speed threshold or a turn order that works in every difficulty setting.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteConcentrate damage on one enemy
Do not split attacks across the enemy group. Put your first available damage into one target, with current-release players particularly recommending focusing an assassin. The goal is to reach critical status quickly, not to win a prolonged exchange.

Use a Ninja opener only if your setup supports it
In a Steam discussion about the current release, a player reports that a Ninja with physical-damage support can attack an assassin that is charging and may end the fight quickly. Treat this as a possible opener, not a guaranteed one-turn win: the result depends on turn order, damage, and enemy behavior. The discussion does not establish a universally reliable party composition or opening sequence. The player discussion, dated October 6, 2025, also contains other individual tactics.
What if a focused attack does not end the fight?
Keep the same objective and continue concentrating damage on one enemy. Players in the same discussion suggest options such as protection, slowing, immobilizing, or disabling enemies, but these are individual suggestions rather than verified optimal choices. A low-HP unit may sometimes draw attacks away from Rafa, according to player reports, but enemy choices and guest behavior vary; do not rely on baiting as a fixed rule.

Does the advice differ between Enhanced and Classic?
FINAL FANTASY TACTICS – The Ivalice Chronicles offers both Enhanced and Classic versions. Square Enix describes Classic as faithful to the 1997 game and says Enhanced includes fine-tuned battle mechanics and a Squire difficulty setting. That distinction matters because the detailed walkthrough advice cited here comes from the classic game, while the current-release tactics are player reports; the available sources do not establish exactly how this specific encounter differs between versions.
