Final Fantasy Crystal Edition is a short, forthcoming franchise survey, not a complete soundtrack. Square Enix has announced one planned selection from each numbered mainline game I through XVI: 16 tracks total. The same announced program is planned for a one-CD release and a two-LP Crystal Vinyl Edition, both scheduled for January 6, 2027. If you want a compact I–XVI overview, the CD is the practical choice; if you want that exact program as a collectible record set, choose the vinyl. For substantially more music, in-game visuals, orchestral arrangements, or deep coverage of one game, another official collection fits better.

What is the Final Fantasy Crystal Edition?
Crystal Edition is a forthcoming cross-series compilation built around a single representative piece from every numbered mainline Final Fantasy game, from Final Fantasy I through Final Fantasy XVI. Square Enix describes the concept as 16 songs that bring back memories across the series, but that wording is promotional rather than an independent ranking of the music.
It is important to frame the product correctly. This is not a box set containing every score, a multi-disc retrospective with many songs from each game, or a newly announced definitive edition of any individual soundtrack. It is a deliberately concise survey: one planned selection per numbered title. The CD and vinyl editions have the same announced selections; the difference is physical format and packaging, not a separate track program.

Which tracks are announced for Crystal Edition?
Square Enix lists the following 16 selections. The publisher calls them planned selections, so the list should be treated as provisional until the final product is issued.
| Game | Announced selection |
|---|---|
| Final Fantasy I | Main Theme |
| Final Fantasy II | The Rebel Army |
| Final Fantasy III | Eternal Wind |
| Final Fantasy IV | Theme of Love |
| Final Fantasy V | Battle at the Big Bridge |
| Final Fantasy VI | Searching for Friends |
| Final Fantasy VII | One-Winged Angel |
| Final Fantasy VIII | Force Your Way |
| Final Fantasy IX | Not Alone |
| Final Fantasy X | Zanarkand |
| Final Fantasy XI | Ronfaure |
| Final Fantasy XII | The Dalmasca Estersand |
| Final Fantasy XIII | Blinded By Light |
| Final Fantasy XIV | Torn from the Heavens |
| Final Fantasy XV | Somnus (Instrumental Version) |
| Final Fantasy XVI | Away |
Shared composition names do not prove that two releases use the same recording, arrangement or mastering. That matters when comparing Crystal with orchestral albums: a familiar title may appear in a substantially different performance.

When do the Crystal editions release, and what do they cost?
Both formats are scheduled for January 6, 2027, so neither is an already released 2026 album. Square Enix’s announced Japanese prices include tax:
| Edition | Format and catalog number | Announced Japanese price |
|---|---|---|
| The Crystal Edition | One CD in a digipak; SQEX-11273 | ¥3,960 (tax included) |
| The Crystal Vinyl Edition | Two 12-inch LPs at 33⅓ rpm; SQEX-11271-2 | ¥8,800 (tax included) |
Those are Japanese list prices, not verified US or other local retail prices. Import shipping, tax, currency conversion and retailer margins can change the amount a buyer actually pays. Square Enix’s announcement points shoppers to its North American and European stores and to CDJapan, but availability and final regional pricing should be checked on the applicable store page.
A limited Amazon.co.jp mega-jacket purchase bonus is announced for either Crystal format while supplies last. That announcement does not establish Amazon.com inventory, a US bonus, or a US preorder price. Treat marketplace listings as separate offers and verify the seller, edition, catalog number and delivery terms.

Is Crystal Edition a complete Final Fantasy soundtrack?
No. It contains 16 planned tracks, one for each numbered mainline game I–XVI. Even if every selection remains unchanged, that is a sampler rather than complete coverage of any game’s score.
Recommended Free Tools
For example, a buyer seeking Final Fantasy I music in depth will find only Main Theme on Crystal. A dedicated Final Fantasy I Pixel Remaster CD lists 33 tracks from that specific remaster. Those products answer different questions: Crystal provides one stop in a series-wide sequence, while the dedicated disc explores one game’s remastered score. The Pixel Remaster release should not be treated as interchangeable with every soundtrack edition of the original game.
Crystal CD versus Crystal Vinyl: which format should you choose?
Choose between them based on playback and collecting preferences, because Square Enix has announced the same 16-song program for both.
| Choose the CD when you want… | Choose the vinyl when you want… |
|---|---|
| Lower announced Japanese price and a compact digipak | A two-record, 12-inch physical display piece |
| Simple playback in a CD player, console-compatible drive or computer with an optical drive | A turntable set to 33⅓ rpm and the ritual of changing sides |
| Easy storage and portability | Large-format artwork and a collectible presentation |
| The same announced I–XVI survey without buying a larger retrospective | The same survey in LP form rather than a different musical edition |
There is no published listening test or mastering comparison establishing that one format sounds better. An LP is not automatically superior to a CD; the result depends on the mastering, pressing and playback chain, none of which Square Enix has documented in the supplied announcement. Do not pay a premium on the assumption of better sound alone.
How does Crystal Edition compare with the 30th Anniversary Tracks 1987–2017?
The 30th Anniversary collection is the breadth-first alternative. Square Enix describes it as more than 100 tracks on Blu-ray Disc Music, with in-game footage, drawing on Final Fantasy I through XV. Crystal instead offers 16 selections and extends the numbered sequence to XVI.

| Collection | Scope and presentation | Best fit | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crystal Edition CD / Vinyl | 16 planned tracks, one each from I–XVI; one CD or two LPs | A short, orderly franchise survey and physical keepsake | Only one piece per game; no announced in-game video component |
| 30th Anniversary Tracks 1987–2017 | More than 100 tracks on Blu-ray Disc Music with in-game footage; I–XV | Listeners who want far greater breadth plus visual accompaniment | Requires Blu-ray-capable playback and does not include Crystal’s announced XVI selection |
These are not competing versions of the same package. The 30th-anniversary disc is the stronger choice for a long retrospective session or a fan who wants gameplay imagery alongside the music. Crystal is easier to approach when the goal is a fixed 16-game outline, especially if Final Fantasy XVI’s inclusion matters.
What does the 35th Anniversary Orchestral Compilation Vinyl add?
The 35th Anniversary Orchestral Compilation Vinyl is a two-LP set of orchestral arrangements, with selections and medleys reaching through Final Fantasy XV. Its published program includes One-Winged Angel and Zanarkand, titles that also appear in Crystal’s announced list.
The overlap is about composition identity, not proof of identical audio. The orchestral compilation is aimed at listeners who specifically want concert-style interpretations and anniversary artwork. Crystal’s format announcement does not characterize all 16 selections as orchestral arrangements, so it should not be purchased as a substitute for an orchestral album. Conversely, the orchestral set does not provide Crystal’s announced Final Fantasy XVI selection.
How is Distant Worlds IV different?
Distant Worlds IV: more music from FINAL FANTASY is a 15-track entry in Square Enix’s orchestral concert-album series. Its listed program includes Somnus (Instrumental Version) and Torn from the Heavens, two titles also planned for Crystal.

When is a dedicated game soundtrack better than Crystal?
A dedicated soundtrack wins whenever depth in one game matters more than a franchise overview. Crystal gives Final Fantasy I one track; the FINAL FANTASY I PIXEL REMASTER Original Soundtrack CD lists 33 tracks and is explicitly tied to the Pixel Remaster score. That is a concrete example of the difference between a survey and a game-focused release.
The same principle applies to the FINAL FANTASY XIV Vinyl LP Box (5-Disc Set). The box spans A Realm Reborn through Endwalker across five LPs, making it a multi-record route into XIV’s music rather than a replacement for Crystal’s one-track-per-game sequence. The checked Japanese Square Enix store listing showed the XIV box out of stock; that status does not prove that every region or retailer is unavailable.
| If your priority is… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One representative song from every numbered game I–XVI | Crystal Edition | It is the only listed option here built around that exact 16-game structure. |
| Many songs and in-game visuals | 30th Anniversary Tracks 1987–2017 | More than 100 tracks and Blu-ray footage provide much broader retrospective coverage. |
| Orchestral arrangements on records | 35th Anniversary Orchestral Compilation Vinyl | Two LPs focus on orchestral interpretations and medleys. |
| A concert-album sequence | Distant Worlds IV | Its 15-track program is curated as part of an orchestral concert series. |
| One game’s score in detail | The relevant dedicated soundtrack | Game-specific releases provide many more tracks than a one-selection compilation. |
| Final Fantasy XIV across multiple expansions | Final Fantasy XIV Vinyl LP Box | Five LPs span A Realm Reborn through Endwalker, subject to stock. |
Which official collection has more songs?
The 30th Anniversary Tracks 1987–2017 collection is the clear answer among the compared products: Square Enix lists more than 100 tracks. Crystal has 16 planned tracks. The Pixel Remaster CD lists 33 tracks, but those all concern Final Fantasy I Pixel Remaster, so its larger number does not make it a broader series retrospective.
Track count should be read alongside scope. A five-disc XIV box can offer more depth for XIV while covering fewer games, and an orchestral album can provide a different interpretation of familiar themes without trying to maximize the number of compositions. “More songs” and “more games represented” are separate buying criteria.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should you check before preordering?
- Confirm the format and catalog number. For the CD, search the exact anchor FINAL FANTASY 40th Anniversary THE CRYSTAL EDITION CD SQEX-11273. The vinyl listing should identify THE CRYSTAL VINYL EDITION and catalog SQEX-11271-2.
- Check the date. Both Crystal products are scheduled for January 6, 2027. A listing presented as an already released 2026 album may be mislabeled or refer to a different product.
- Read the current track list. Square Enix says the selections are planned and may change. Save or print the final retailer listing if the exact program matters to you.
- Verify regional terms. Japanese prices are not US prices. Check currency, tax handling, shipping, import charges, cancellation rules and delivery estimates for your country.
- Check bonus eligibility separately. The announced mega-jacket bonus is tied to Amazon.co.jp and limited supplies. Do not assume an Amazon.com order receives it.
- Match your hardware. A Blu-ray Disc Music retrospective needs a Blu-ray-capable player; an LP set needs a turntable; a CD needs compatible optical playback. Confirm your setup before choosing based on packaging.
- Inspect seller and condition. Marketplace pages can mix preorders, used copies and parallel imports. Match the catalog number and edition name, not only the cover image.
How should you decide in one minute?
Use this sequence:
- If you need a complete score from one game, stop comparing anniversary compilations and find that game’s dedicated soundtrack.
- If you want the broadest retrospective with visual material, choose the 30th Anniversary Blu-ray, provided you have Blu-ray playback.
- If orchestral treatment is the deciding factor, compare the 35th Anniversary Orchestral Compilation Vinyl with Distant Worlds IV by program and format.
- If your goal is exactly one entry for every numbered game I–XVI, choose Crystal.
- Within Crystal, choose the CD for compact, lower-cost physical ownership or the vinyl for a two-LP display format. Do not assume the vinyl is sonically better without mastering evidence.
What is still unknown about Crystal Edition?
As of the October 30, 2026 information date, no independent listening comparison, measured audio-quality result, verified US Amazon inventory or verified US retail price was established. Square Enix also cautions that the planned track selections may change. Those limits are reasons to describe the product precisely, not reasons to infer a ranking.

The safest conclusion is therefore about fit, not sound quality: Crystal is the concise 16-game survey; the 30th Anniversary release is the much larger visual retrospective; the 35th Anniversary and Distant Worlds releases serve orchestral listeners; and dedicated soundtracks serve game-specific depth.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I order Crystal Edition outside Japan?
Square Enix’s announcement links its North American and European online stores as well as CDJapan, so those are the first places to check for regional ordering. The announcement does not guarantee stock, shipping availability or a final local price; verify those details on the live listing for your country.
How can I tell whether a listing is the CD or the vinyl set?
Use the catalog numbers rather than artwork alone: SQEX-11273 identifies the one-CD digipak, while SQEX-11271-2 identifies the two-LP set. The vinyl listing should also state 12-inch records at 33⅓ rpm.
Will the Crystal track list be locked before release?
Not necessarily. Square Enix labels the selections planned and warns that they may change, so a preorder is not a guarantee of an immutable program. Recheck the publisher or retailer listing closer to January 6, 2027 if a particular song is essential.
Can a regular CD player play the 30th Anniversary collection?
No: that release is Blu-ray Disc Music, not an audio CD. You need a Blu-ray-capable player or compatible drive, and you should confirm your equipment supports the disc before buying it for audio playback.
Is the Amazon.co.jp bonus included with every international preorder?
No such guarantee is stated. The announcement describes a limited Amazon.co.jp mega-jacket bonus and says supplies are limited; it does not verify Amazon.com eligibility or a bonus for orders placed through other stores.
