When did Ever Crisis launch on mobile?
Square Enix released the App Store and Google Play versions on September 7, 2023. The PC version followed on Steam on December 6, 2023. These are historical launch dates; neither platform option remained playable after the service ended. Square Enix’s end-of-service notice lists the platform release dates.
Is Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis still playable?
No. Square Enix ended the game’s service on October 6, 2026, at 11:00 PM PDT. The publisher had announced the shutdown on July 8, 2026. Red crystal sales were scheduled to stop July 7, 2026, at 7:00 PM PDT; players could use existing red crystals until service ended. The English notice said refunds for unused paid in-game currency were available only to Taiwan residents, with further details to follow, so it did not establish a general refund entitlement elsewhere. What kind of game was it?
Square Enix described Ever Crisis as a free-to-play RPG with in-app purchases for iOS, Android, and Steam. That describes its original product model, not current availability. The official game page lists those platforms and the free-to-play model.

A retelling and expansion of the FFVII universe
Producer Shoichi Ichikawa called the game “Another Possibility for a Remake.” He described an ambition to let players experience the FINAL FANTASY VII story and compilation titles, while introducing the young Sephiroth story through Glenn and his group. The producer also pointed to seasonal and crossover events as ways to explore stories and outfits; this was the team’s framing of the project, rather than a guarantee of a particular experience for every player. Ichikawa’s July 2026 producer letter contains that description.
What Square Enix said about ending service
In the July 8, 2026 letter, Ichikawa said Square Enix found it difficult to maintain the service level expected of a FINAL FANTASY VII title. He cited the challenge of balancing production costs against demand for character weapons and gear, as well as balancing equipment visuals, development cost, and gameplay balance. These were the producer’s stated reasons for the decision, not independently reported financial findings. Read the producer’s explanation.
The letter also outlined planned final story content: a three-part completion of BEFORE CRISIS -FINAL FANTASY VII- from July through August, and a final saga chapter scheduled for September 6, 2026 PDT. Those dates and releases were plans stated in the letter; the letter itself is not independent confirmation that every planned release occurred.
