Both versions contain the same Midgar campaign and Yuffie’s FF7R EPISODE INTERmission. The PS5 edition is the better-looking, more consistently high-performance version, with an official 4K-focused Graphics Mode, a 60FPS-focused Performance Mode, Photo Mode and DualSense haptics. The Switch 2 edition makes visual and performance compromises, but it is the only one you can play in handheld mode. Choose PS5 for fidelity; choose Switch 2 when portable play or Nintendo-platform convenience matters more.

Do both versions include the same game and Yuffie DLC?
Yes. Nintendo and Square Enix describe the Switch 2 release as Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, covering the Midgar story. Square Enix also confirms that FF7R EPISODE INTERmission is included. The PS5 Intergrade release likewise contains the Midgar campaign and the Yuffie-led Intermission episode.

The main Midgar campaign
The core game follows Cloud Strife and the members of Avalanche through the Midgar portion of the wider Final Fantasy VII story. Neither platform changes that campaign’s narrative scope. You are not buying a shortened Switch 2 edition or an expanded PS5 story route; the principal content is the same.

FF7R EPISODE INTERmission
Intermission is a separate playable episode starring Yuffie Kisaragi. It is part of the Intergrade package on both platforms, so the Switch 2 version does answer the common question about whether Yuffie’s content is included: it is. You do not need to treat the Switch 2 purchase as the base game alone.
Because the content is aligned, graphics, performance, controls and portability—not missing chapters—are the meaningful reasons to choose one platform over the other.
Where PS5 has the technical advantage
PS5 has the higher fidelity ceiling. Sony’s official description separates two display priorities: Graphics Mode prioritizes high-quality 4K graphics, while Performance Mode prioritizes smooth action at 60FPS. That gives PS5 owners a clear choice between image quality and motion smoothness.

Textures, lighting and image quality
Independent technical coverage from Digital Foundry and TechRadar describes the Switch 2 port as capable but visibly below PS5 in texture quality, lighting and overall image quality. Those observations are comparative assessments of the released software, not publisher specifications. They explain why the PS5 version is the safer choice when you play on a large television and want the cleanest, most detailed presentation.

- Includes Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade with Yuffie’s Episode INTERmission. No physical cartridge, download license key only.
- Play Booster containing 15 random Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy cards included.
- Hybrid real-time and command-based combat system with materia, summons, and limit breaks.
- Explore expanded Midgar environments, new quests, and mini-games.
- Fully remastered, orchestrated soundtrack that responds dynamically to the action.
The difference is best understood as a series of compromises rather than one missing feature. Switch 2 is designed to run as a hybrid game, so assets, lighting treatment and image reconstruction are tuned around hardware that must also operate in a portable form. PS5 can devote its resources to a fixed home-console presentation and therefore preserves more visual detail.
Two official PS5 priorities
- Graphics Mode: Sony says this mode prioritizes high-quality 4K graphics.
- Performance Mode: Sony says this mode prioritizes smooth action at 60FPS.
These labels describe priorities, not a promise that every scene will look identical or that every internal rendering resolution is fixed. They are nevertheless useful for deciding what PS5 offers: an officially documented fidelity option and an officially documented 60FPS-oriented option.
Does Switch 2 run at 60FPS?
Do not buy the Switch 2 edition expecting the same officially advertised 60FPS mode as PS5. The supplied Nintendo and Square Enix material does not document a Switch 2 Performance Mode with a 60FPS target. Digital Foundry and TechRadar instead report lower frame-rate fidelity than PS5 as part of the port’s compromises.
That wording matters. It does not establish one universal frame rate for every Switch 2 situation, nor does it provide an authoritative resolution-and-frame-rate table. Docked and handheld operation, scene complexity and the port’s technical settings all affect what you see. The evidence supports a broad conclusion—PS5 is more consistent and offers the publisher’s explicit 60FPS mode—rather than a precise Switch 2 number.

What the PS5 claim does and does not mean
“Performance Mode” is Sony’s description of a mode that prioritizes smooth action at 60FPS. It is not evidence that the PS5 version renders at native 4K while maintaining 60FPS. Graphics Mode and Performance Mode are separate priorities, so you choose between them according to whether detail or motion is more important to you.
Why exact Switch 2 numbers are difficult to state responsibly
No authoritative, directly comparable official table establishing a single Switch 2 resolution against a single PS5 resolution is available in the material for this comparison. Presenting one exact pixel count as settled fact would overstate the evidence. If a retailer listing, video or forum post gives a definitive Switch 2 number, treat that as a separate claim requiring its own verification.
How the game looks in docked and handheld play
Docked Switch 2
Independent assessments describe docked mode as the stronger Switch 2 presentation. Connecting the console to a television gives the port more room to show its visual work, and reviewers generally find docked play cleaner than handheld play. It still does not reach the PS5 version’s overall fidelity, but it is the appropriate Switch 2 mode for players who care most about a larger-screen image.

Handheld play is the feature PS5 cannot match. You can continue the Midgar campaign or Intermission away from the television, accepting the hybrid port’s reduced visual and performance fidelity in exchange for that flexibility. The portable option is not a separate story build; it is the same Intergrade content adapted to Switch 2 hardware.

PS5 as a fixed home-console experience
PS5 is designed for television or monitor play. It does not offer a handheld mode, so its advantage is consistency: the hardware and display environment remain focused on the fidelity and performance options Sony documents.
Controller and presentation features
Square Enix documents Photo Mode on PS5 and says battles can be played with the PS5 DualSense controller using integrated haptic feedback. Those are explicitly documented PS5 features and are part of the platform’s premium presentation.
The Switch 2 comparison should not assume feature parity where the available material does not establish it. The confirmed Switch 2 differentiator is its hybrid format—docked or handheld—not a publisher-documented equivalent of DualSense haptics. If a particular controller feature is decisive for you, verify the current platform description before purchase rather than treating the two versions as identical in this area.
Release timing and what it means for buyers
The PS5 version launched on 10 June 2021, as listed by the PlayStation Blog. Nintendo UK lists the Switch 2 release date as 22 January 2026. The later Switch 2 launch does not mean it is a technically superior edition; it is a newer platform release whose main advantage is portability.
Best Value
- STUNNING VISUALS - Explore Midgar like never before with stunning visuals and richly detailed environments that bring the city’s layered, industrial districts to life, all while staying true to the spirit of the original game.
- DYNAMIC COMBAT WITH STRATEGIC DEPTH - The innovative battle system combines strategic command-based gameplay with fast-paced action. Seamlessly switch between characters, harness the power of materia, summon iconic creatures, and unleash devastating limit breaks.
- ICONIC CHARACTERS, UNFORGETTABLE STORY - Follow Cloud Strife, an ex-SOLDIER turned mercenary, as he joins Avalanche to take on the Shinra Electric Power Company. Cloud and his allies Barret, Tifa, and Aerith are pulled into a battle that will decide the fate of the planet.
- EXPANDED CONTENT - FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE offers quests, mini-games, and missions set in expanded areas of Midgar. Encounter new characters and experience exciting content that adds even more depth to the story.
- ICONIC SOUNDTRACK - The epic soundtrack has been fully remastered, with re-arranged and orchestrated tracks that dynamically respond to the action, offering an immersive, emotionally charged musical experience.
Release timing also explains why you should separate content questions from hardware questions. Both editions are Intergrade packages with the same Midgar campaign and Intermission. The newer release changes where and how you can play, while PS5 remains the reference point for the highest-fidelity presentation described by the publishers and independent technical coverage.
Which version should you buy?
Choose PS5 if image quality is your priority
- You play primarily on a television or monitor.
- You want the highest texture, lighting and image-quality fidelity available between these two editions.
- You want an officially documented choice between a 4K-focused Graphics Mode and a 60FPS-focused Performance Mode.
- You value Photo Mode and documented DualSense haptic feedback.
PS5 is the straightforward recommendation for a home setup where visual clarity and performance consistency matter more than mobility.
Choose Switch 2 if handheld play changes when you play
- You want to play the full Intergrade package away from the television.
- You prefer one hybrid system that can switch between handheld and docked play.
- You accept lower visual and frame-rate fidelity in exchange for portability.
- You specifically want the game on Nintendo’s current platform.
Switch 2 is not the fidelity winner, but portability can be more valuable than cleaner lighting or sharper textures. If the alternative is not playing because the television is occupied, the hybrid version’s practical advantage is substantial.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteChoose based on your display and schedule
A large 4K television makes PS5’s image-quality advantage easier to appreciate. A smaller handheld screen makes portability more visible as a benefit and can make some visual compromises less important. Neither choice is universally correct: the deciding question is whether you will use the handheld feature often enough to outweigh the PS5’s technical lead.
What this comparison cannot establish
Several claims should not be inferred from the available evidence:
- There is no authoritative single-resolution table that settles Switch 2 versus PS5 pixel counts for every mode.
- The available publisher material does not establish an official Switch 2 60FPS mode.
- A general frame-rate statement for every Switch 2 scene, docked or handheld, would go beyond the cited technical assessments.
- Pricing, stock, promotional offers and future patches are not permanent platform specifications and should be checked at the time you buy.
These limits do not make the choice unclear. They simply mean the defensible conclusion is qualitative: PS5 offers the stronger fidelity and a documented 60FPS-oriented mode; Switch 2 offers the same Intergrade content in a portable hybrid format with technical compromises.
A practical decision checklist
- Confirm your play location. If you need handheld play, select Switch 2. If you always use a television or monitor, continue comparing fidelity.
- Decide whether image quality or mobility comes first. PS5 prioritizes the former; Switch 2 uniquely provides the latter.
- For PS5, choose your display priority. Use Graphics Mode when high-quality 4K presentation matters most, or Performance Mode when smooth action at 60FPS matters most.
- For Switch 2, set expectations correctly. Expect a capable hybrid port, with docked mode generally presenting better than handheld and lower fidelity than PS5.
- Check the exact product listing before paying. Confirm that it is the Intergrade release and that FF7R EPISODE INTERmission is included; both platform editions discussed here are described that way, but listings can vary by region and retailer.
Final verdict
There is no content-based reason to choose one version over the other: both deliver the Midgar campaign and Yuffie’s Intermission episode. PS5 is the better technical version, with higher visual fidelity, an official 4K-focused Graphics Mode, an official 60FPS-focused Performance Mode, Photo Mode and DualSense haptics. Switch 2 is the better lifestyle version for anyone who will genuinely use handheld play. Buy PS5 for the best home-console presentation; buy Switch 2 for portability, knowing what visual and performance compromises that convenience entails.
