But that is not the whole comparison: Series X held a steadier frame rate in one reported performance-mode section. The claim that the Xbox release is “not selling well” is also unproven: a third-party estimate put early sales at 22,000 copies, while a later U.S. chart ranked it fourth by dollar sales among Xbox premium games.
Does Final Fantasy XVI look worse on Xbox?
In the June 2025 comparison reported by Pure Xbox, which summarized Digital Foundry’s analysis, Xbox Series X showed a softer, lower-resolution image than PS5 in the scenes examined. The same report noted differences in contrast and foliage rendering. These are findings from the tested release-period build and scenes, not a fixed resolution specification for every moment of the game or a verdict on later patched builds.

| Comparison | What the June 2025 report found | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Series X image resolution | Lower than PS5 in the examined scenes; one performance-mode example rendered at 720p on Series X versus 1080p on PS5. | A sampled scene, not a universal resolution for the game. |
| Image presentation | Series X appeared softer, with reported contrast and foliage-rendering differences. | Observations attributed to Digital Foundry’s comparison as summarized by Pure Xbox. |
| Performance mode frame rate | Series X was described as holding close to 60 FPS in the opening section discussed, while PS5 was less stable there. | This does not establish a whole-game frame-rate advantage. |
| Series S | Pure Xbox characterized performance as generally around 30 FPS, with lower visual quality than Series X performance mode. | Series S is a separate hardware profile; do not conflate it with Series X. |
The practical conclusion is a trade-off, not a blanket claim that the Xbox port is worse in every respect. In the specific performance-mode section, the tested Series X image was less sharp but its frame rate was steadier. The comparison does not establish how every area, mode, or subsequent game update performs.

Is Final Fantasy XVI selling poorly on Xbox?
Available figures do not settle that question. The often-repeated 22,000-copy number is a third-party estimate, not an official sales disclosure; a later chart offers a different but limited signal based on dollar sales rather than units.

| 22,000 copies | Alinea Analytics estimate of Xbox sales since launch, reported by XboxDynasty on June 17, 2025: XboxDynasty’s report. | Third-party estimate reported shortly after release, not a Microsoft- or Square Enix-confirmed total. |
| No. 4 | Rank in Circana’s June 2025 U.S. Xbox premium-games chart by dollar sales, reported by Windows Central on July 23, 2025: Windows Central’s report. | U.S. monthly ranking, not a unit-sales total or global measure. The chart covered physical and digital sales from digital-data-sharing publishers and excluded add-on content. |
| More than 7 million | Worldwide copies shipped and sold digitally on PlayStation and PC by June 9, 2025, according to Square Enix. | Pre-Xbox cumulative figure for different platforms; it is not an Xbox sales result and is not directly comparable to the estimate above. |
The 22,000 estimate may sound weak, but it cannot be treated as audited or official. The fourth-place U.S. dollar-sales rank shows that the game placed well on that particular monthly chart, but does not reveal how many copies sold or how it performed worldwide. No comparable official Xbox unit-sales disclosure is established by these figures.
