What Book 4 adds
Nintendo’s update notice names the new story An Island Apart. Kurt and the others from Book 1 escape to Rose’s homeland, Holtz, seek refuge among its islands, and face pursuit by the empire. Chapters 1 and 2 are available in both Light and Shadow. Nintendo’s Book 4 update notice is dated September 25, 2026.

How to unlock Book 4 chapters
Story Fragments earned as battle rewards unlock chapters. Nintendo says players must collect all Book 1 story rewards before they can access and switch to new Books.
- Collect all Book 1 story rewards.
- Earn Story Fragments from battles.
- On the home screen, choose Change Stories to access a new Book.
- Use Story Fragments to unlock its chapters.
How to get Black Knight: Sword Spirit
Black Knight: Sword Spirit is a new disciple of shadow. The update notice lists three ways to obtain him:

What A+ support conversations change
The Book 4 preview announces A+ as a new support-conversation level. Unlocking A+ lets a player equip a magic skill exclusive to their support partner. The feature is described in Nintendo’s September 24, 2026 Book 4 and anniversary preview.
Anniversary content and availability
Nintendo’s preview tied Book 4 to the game’s one-year celebration and announced the Fair Shadow season pass, featuring Dietrich: Fair Shadow. Event bonuses and pass availability can be time-limited; check the in-game notices for current dates and access details.

Is “Flame Lords” part of the update?
Not according to the official materials reviewed. Neither Nintendo’s September 25 update notice nor its September 24 preview mentions “Flame Lords.” The confirmed update title is An Island Apart; “Flame Lords” should not be treated as an announced Book 4 feature on the basis of those notices.
Platform and cost
Fire Emblem Shadows is a free-to-start mobile game for iOS and Android, with optional in-game purchases. Nintendo describes its battles as combining real-time strategy and social deduction. Its September 25, 2025 launch announcement identifies Nintendo as publisher and Intelligent Systems and DeNA as development partners. The launch release said the game was available in more than 70 countries and regions and in 10 languages at launch; those are launch figures, not a measure of current availability.
