To enter Fisch’s Chasm and reach the Mineshaft, you must be level 30 or higher, complete Merlin’s Rift progression by submitting the four required shards, receive Merlin’s Veil, and touch the purple underwater layer near Sunstone Island before the five-minute buff expires.
Requirements for entering the Chasm
Before Merlin will provide access, make sure you have completed each requirement:

- Reach level 30 or higher.
- Collect and submit all four distinct Rift shards:

The shards do not have to be collected in a particular color order. However, Rift rewards are randomized, so a run can produce a shard you already own. You may therefore need more than four Rift runs to complete the set. Merlin’s current Rift-creation cooldown is listed as five minutes; older guides that quote 20 minutes are outdated. Merlin is inside a hut on the upper section of Sunstone Island. From the island’s ladder, pass Rhea and turn left toward Merlin’s hut.

Talk to Merlin after every Rift and submit the shard you obtained. The Chasm dialogue does not become available until all four distinct shards have been submitted. Merlin’s location and requirements may be checked against the Merlin reference.

- Talk to Merlin.
- Select “What can you do for me?”
- Select “I need to enter The Chasm.”
- When Merlin asks whether you are ready, select “I’m ready”.
The documented option says The Chasm, not “Mineshaft.” If you choose “Not yet.”, Merlin does not apply the buff.

Merlin’s Veil duration and cooldown
Merlin’s Veil lasts for approximately five minutes. Its timer starts as soon as Merlin applies the buff during the dialogue, not when you enter the water. The remaining time appears in the left-side buff area above the XP bar.

Merlin can provide another Veil only after an approximately 30-minute cooldown. Prepare your route and diving equipment before selecting “I’m ready.” If the buff expires before you reach the entrance, you must wait until Merlin can grant it again.
Once you have been transferred into the Mineshaft, Veil’s expiration does not eject you. The buff is needed to cross into the Chasm and trigger the transfer.

Chasm entrance location and route
The Chasm is an underwater sub-location connected to Sunstone Island. The documented entry trigger is approximately:

Use this as the primary entrance reference. Other guides list coordinates such as -855.8, 125.2, -971.1 or -912, 187, -1062; these describe approach points or nearby open-water areas rather than interchangeable exact trigger coordinates.

- Stand near Merlin on upper Sunstone Island.
- Make sure you have suitable diving or breathing equipment equipped.
- Talk to Merlin and obtain Merlin’s Veil.
- Leave the hut and move behind it toward the ocean.
- Enter the water and descend toward the dark underwater opening or purple layer.
- Touch the purple layer while Merlin’s Veil is active.
- The game transfers you into the Mineshaft.
The Mineshaft is not reached through a surface portal or by walking directly from the island. The Chasm is the underwater transition area; touching its purple layer is what sends you to the Mineshaft. The Fisch Wiki Chasm reference lists the underwater trigger and transition.

- Prepare before activating Veil: the five-minute timer begins during Merlin’s conversation.
- Use diving support: flippers and oxygen-support equipment make the underwater trip faster and reduce the risk of drowning or timing out.
- Watch the buff timer: do not assume the timer starts when you touch the water.
- Do not panic after entering: once inside the Mineshaft, Veil expiring will not remove you.
- Expect duplicate shards: an extra Rift run does not necessarily indicate a bug because the Rift type and reward are randomized.
Common Chasm access mistakes

| Activating Veil before preparing | Equip diving gear and line up your route first. |
| Assuming Veil expels you from the Mineshaft | Only the entry crossing is time-sensitive; you can remain inside after expiration. |
The Chasm and Mineshaft progression originated with Merlin’s Orb content in version 1.58.0, while Merlin’s Staff was added in version 1.59.0. The Fisch Wiki currently lists version 1.89.0 as the current version, so older walkthroughs may use different cooldowns, coordinates, or dialogue wording. Check the Fisch changelog when a future update changes the route.
