If a Diablo IV War Plan is not updating, first check that you have the intended plan selected, are doing its exact current objective, and are completing activities in the displayed order. Then check that the character is in the right shared-progress partition and that the game is current. Blizzard has documented genuine War Plans progression and reward-registration defects, so a stuck node can be more than a missed requirement—but verify the plan and activity before repeating content.
Why might a War Plan activity not count?
War Plans are ordered chains of endgame activities, not simply a record of any activity you complete. Blizzard describes them as a way to “Setup the activity order for War Plans and play through them seamlessly in a single chain.” A plan can include up to five activities selected from six modes: The Pit, Infernal Hordes, Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, Lair Bosses, and Kurast Undercity.

Blizzard’s War Plans FAQ gives the example of a plan that lists a Helltide before a Nightmare Dungeon: completing the Nightmare Dungeon first will not earn credit for that plan step. Likewise, an activity that looks relevant may not meet the node’s specific requirement. The objective may specify a mode, dungeon type, boss, modifier, wave count, cinder spend, or another condition.

These symptoms can look alike, but they point to different checks. Verify the visible plan and objective first; if those are correct, focus on whether the run and its reward were registered.
What should I check first?
Work through these checks in order, starting with the information shown on the War Plans screen. This helps rule out a wrong plan or unmet condition before you spend time repeating an activity.

Open the War Plans screen and check which plan is active, then read its current node. Do not rely only on a label or indicator that looks like a plan is selected. A community report describes a display-only or “false” plan that appeared not to update while the actual selected plan was progressing; that is anecdotal, not an official diagnosis or fix.
- Read the node literally. Identify the named activity and every stated condition. Check whether the objective calls for a specific mode, dungeon type, boss, modifier, wave count, cinder spend, or other requirement. Completing the general activity type does not establish that a more specific condition was met.
- Follow the listed order. Compare the current step with the plan sequence before entering an activity. A later activity completed out of order may not give credit, as Blizzard’s Helltide-then-Nightmare-Dungeon example illustrates.
- Finish the activity and reward flow. Complete the required activity and let the completion and reward process finish. Avoid disconnecting while claiming rewards: Blizzard’s 3.0 patch notes identify disconnecting during reward claiming as a circumstance that could block War Plan progression.
- Check the character’s partition. Compare all three relevant categories with the character whose progress you expect to share: Seasonal or Eternal, Hardcore or Non-Hardcore, and Normal or Solo-Self Found. Matching only the season is not enough under the Season of Hell’s Legacy shared-progress rules.
- Confirm the client is current. Blizzard’s 3.1 patch notes include fixes for activities that failed to grant rewards or progress achievements, as well as other War Plans and activity-related problems. Install the available game update before troubleshooting a possible already-fixed defect.
What if the activity completes but the node stays unchanged?
First compare the run with both the current objective and its place in the chain. A completed run can be valid gameplay but still be the wrong step, or fail to meet a condition specified by the node. The order-sensitive Nightmare Dungeon example is particularly relevant if the plan contains several familiar activities.
If the correct activity was completed in sequence and the node still did not move, note the details before trying anything that changes the plan. Record the plan name, exact node text, activity, difficulty, platform, character partition, and whether the run was solo or in a party. Player reports describe unchanged progress in Nightmare Dungeons, Undercity, and other activities, but reports across different activities do not establish one cause or a reliable workaround.

Check whether the reward appeared and whether the next node unlocked. Those details help distinguish a node display that appears stale from a run whose reward or downstream progress may not have registered. If the activity and completion flow appear correct, preserve evidence of the unchanged state rather than assuming a repeat run will fix it.
What does it mean if War Plans are stuck at 9/10?
A 9/10 display is not, by itself, proof that progression is broken. A player has reported this symptom, but that individual report does not establish a general bug or explain every instance of the same number.

Why is a reward missing or the next activity still locked?
A missing reward or an unavailable next step can point to a registration failure, particularly if the game disconnected while rewards were being claimed. Blizzard’s 3.0 patch notes document a progression blocker in that circumstance. Blizzard’s 3.1 patch notes later state: “Fixed an issue where War Plans activities did not correctly grant rewards or progress achievements.”

The 3.1 notes also list fixes involving incorrect chests, modifiers persisting after an activity, party completion XP, Infernal Hordes entry and voting, Nightmare Dungeon seasonal-affix behavior, and activity-specific interactions. This history confirms that reward and progression defects have existed. It does not establish that every current stuck plan has the same cause or that every report is resolved.
If the reward is absent, note whether the game disconnected, crashed, or closed during the reward flow, and whether the next node unlocked. Updating the client is a sensible first response to documented fixes; if the problem persists, preserve those details for a support report. The available information does not establish a universal recovery procedure for a reward-state failure.
Why doesn’t my other character show the same progress?
Shared progress depends on matching three character partitions, not simply being in the same season. Under the Season of Hell’s Legacy rules, the characters must both be Seasonal or both Eternal, both Hardcore or both Non-Hardcore, and both Normal or both Solo-Self Found.
Check each category side by side. A mismatch in any one means the characters do not meet the stated shared-progress conditions. Also separate shared reputation or progress from planner setup: the planner remains character-specific, so another character can have its own point-allocation setup even when progress is shared.

What should I send if the plan is still stuck?
If the selected plan, objective, order, character partition, and updated client do not explain the issue, send a specific account of what happened. There is no single published recovery procedure for every account-specific War Plans failure in the documented information, so a clear report is more useful than assuming an anecdotal workaround applies.
- Platform and launcher.
- Season, character name and class, and the character’s partition status.
- The plan sequence and exact current objective text.
- Activity name, difficulty, solo or party status, and completion time.
- Whether the game disconnected, crashed, or was closed while rewards were being claimed.
- Screenshots or video showing the objective before and after the run.
- Whether the reward appeared and whether the next node unlocked.
Keep the record factual: what the objective said, what activity you completed, how the game ended, and what changed afterward. That lets support investigate the difference between an unmet condition, a misleading display, and missing reward or progression registration.
Should I abandon the plan, make an alt, or repeat the activity?
Do not treat those actions as guaranteed fixes. Community suggestions include creating another character, abandoning a plan, resetting dungeons, or repeating an activity, but the available evidence does not establish that any of them reliably repairs a stuck War Plan. Some may also alter the active plan or consume reset currency.
Use low-risk checks first: confirm the selected plan, objective, order, character partition, and client version. If you consider a community-suggested experiment afterward, document the current sequence and node before changing anything, and do not assume a result on one account proves the cause for another.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I recover War Plan progress lost after a disconnect?
Blizzard’s 3.0 notes identify disconnecting while claiming rewards as a possible progression blocker, but the documented information does not provide a universal recovery procedure. Record the affected objective, reward state, and disconnect timing for a support report.
Does a War Plan bug affect every character on my account?
