Error 0x87e0000d usually blocks a game from installing, downloading, updating, or preloading. It is best treated as an Xbox/Microsoft Store content, entitlement, or installation failure—not as a single confirmed Windows error with one universal cause.
The correct fix depends on where it appears. A failure affecting every game points toward Xbox services, Microsoft Store, Gaming Services, account, or device problems. A failure affecting only one title may instead mean that the game, edition, platform, region, subscription, or preload window is unavailable. Work through the least-destructive checks first.

Try these checks first
- Restart the device. On Windows, select Start > Power > Restart. On Xbox, use the normal power menu. A restart is particularly important after Windows or console updates.
- Check Xbox service status. Visit Xbox Status before resetting apps or reinstalling anything. An outage can prevent installations from starting or completing.
- Confirm the account. On Windows, open the Xbox app, select the profile icon, and note the signed-in account. Open Microsoft Store, select the account icon, and make sure it is the same Microsoft account that owns the game or subscription. Sign out and back in if necessary, then restart.
- Check storage. Confirm that the selected drive has enough space for the game, updates, and temporary unpacking. On PC, check that the installation drive is connected and accessible. On Xbox, verify that an external drive is recognized and is not being selected after disconnection.
- Verify availability. Check the title’s official release date and local release time, platform, edition, region, ownership, subscription status, and minimum PC requirements.
Microsoft’s general Store guidance covers common causes including outdated components, authorization, regional availability, family settings, compatibility, and the need to restart after updates: Microsoft’s Microsoft Store troubleshooting guide.
Identify the likely cause
| What is happening? | Most useful things to check first |
|---|---|
| Only one game fails | Release or preload timing, edition, compatibility, region, entitlement, or a title-specific outage |
| Every game fails on Windows | Windows updates, Store cache, account mismatch, Xbox app, or Gaming Services |
| Every game fails on Xbox | Xbox service status, console update, storage, account, and installation queue |
| The error appears during preload | Whether preload has opened for your platform, edition, region, and local time |
| An update fails after installation | Storage, a corrupted partial download, Gaming Services, Store state, or a service interruption |
These categories are troubleshooting inferences, not an official Microsoft definition of the code. Microsoft does not currently provide a clearly identified support article defining 0x87e0000d as one specific fault.

Fix 0x87e0000d on Windows
1. Update Windows
On Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates. On Windows 10, open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates. Install available updates and restart.
2. Update Microsoft Store and Xbox
Open Microsoft Store and select Library > Get updates. Older Windows 10 Store layouts may use See more (…) > Downloads and updates > Get updates. Install updates for Microsoft Store, Xbox, Gaming Services, and related components if offered. Then open the Xbox app and retry.
Microsoft’s current Store update instructions are available at Get updates for apps and games in Microsoft Store.
3. Reset the Microsoft Store cache
Press Windows key + R, enter wsreset.exe, and select OK. A blank Command Prompt window should appear briefly; Microsoft says it normally closes after about 10 seconds and Microsoft Store opens automatically.
If Store does not open, restart Windows, open Microsoft Store manually, sign in again, and retry. The command resets Store cache data; it is not a game-uninstallation command.
4. Repair, then reset the affected apps
On Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps. On Windows 10, the equivalent controls are under Settings > Apps > Apps & features. Open Advanced options for Xbox, Microsoft Store if listed, and Gaming Services if listed.

Repair attempts to fix the app without clearing its local state. Reset returns the app to a clean local state and can remove app data and preferences. Check your game library and installation location afterward. Microsoft documents these controls in its Windows app repair and reset guidance.
5. Check Gaming Services
Gaming Services is a Windows dependency for many Xbox and PC Game Pass installations. Its failure is one possible cause, not a guaranteed meaning of 0x87e0000d.
Open Microsoft Store, search for Gaming Services, and install or update it if the Store offers that option. Restart Windows, open Xbox, and test the installation again. Reinstalling the Xbox app alone may not repair Gaming Services.
6. Reinstall Gaming Services as an advanced fix
Use this only if updates, cache reset, and app Repair/Reset have failed. The commands remove the Gaming Services package and require administrator access. Microsoft documented this general approach for related Gaming Services errors 0x80073D26 and 0x8007139F; it is not a procedure published specifically as the official fix for 0x87e0000d.
- Open Windows PowerShell or Terminal as administrator.
- Run:
get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers - Open the Gaming Services Store listing:
start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN - Install Gaming Services from Microsoft Store.
- Restart Windows and test the Xbox installation.
Success means Microsoft Store offers Gaming Services for installation and the Xbox app can begin the game download. If Gaming Services will not reinstall, stop rather than deleting protected folders or making more system changes.

Fix 0x87e0000d on Xbox consoles
1. Cancel the failed queue item
Open My games & apps > Manage > Queue, or the current downloads/queue view shown by your console software. Cancel the failed or stuck installation, then restart the console and try again.
Canceling can remove a partial download. It does not require deleting saved games; do not delete save data as a routine troubleshooting step.
2. Restart or power-cycle the console
Use the normal power menu first. If the console is unresponsive, hold its power button for about 10 seconds until it shuts down, wait briefly, turn it on, and retry. This is a power cycle, not a factory reset.

Open the console’s Settings > System > Updates area. Menu wording can vary between Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S system versions. Microsoft also recommends keeping the console current when Store transactions fail.
4. Check storage and ownership
Confirm that the internal drive has adequate space and that any selected external drive is connected, recognized, and healthy. Then verify that the correct Xbox profile is signed in, the title appears in the library or subscription catalog, and the relevant Game Pass subscription is active.
Check that you selected the correct console edition. A PC version, console version, cross-generation entitlement, or Xbox Play Anywhere entitlement may not be interchangeable for every title.

When the error appears during preload
A title can be visible in Microsoft Store or the Xbox app before it is actually installable. Before repairing anything, verify the publisher’s official release date, your local release time, the preload window, the platform, and the edition you selected.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check compatibility, edition, region, and account status
Microsoft says Store installation controls can differ when an app or game is unavailable in a country, restricted by family settings, removed from the Store, incompatible with the device, or associated with another account. Use Microsoft’s availability and compatibility guidance to check these conditions.
- Device: Confirm the game supports your Xbox generation or Windows PC and that the PC meets minimum requirements.
- Edition: Make sure the selected PC, console, standard, deluxe, or cross-generation edition is the one your purchase or subscription provides.
- Entitlement: Confirm the purchase account or active Game Pass plan. A title may have left the catalog even though it remains visible in some Store locations.
- Region: Check that Windows, Xbox, Store, and Microsoft account settings are not unintentionally inconsistent.
- Family or age settings: Restrictions can prevent a game from appearing or installing.
Do not change your region merely to bypass a release or availability rule. Microsoft warns that region changes can affect games, apps, subscriptions, and account balances; see its region-change guidance.

What not to do first
- Do not factory-reset the Xbox or reset Windows before testing the less-destructive fixes.
- Do not delete the WindowsApps folder or take ownership of protected Store folders.
- Do not permanently disable antivirus software.
- Do not run random PowerShell scripts or third-party “error fixer” and registry-cleaner tools.
- Do not change region simply to force a game to appear.
- Do not reinstall a game repeatedly when it is unreleased, unsupported, unavailable, or affected by an outage.
When to contact support
Stop making local changes when Xbox Status reports a relevant incident, when the same title fails on multiple devices or accounts, or when every other game installs normally but one title consistently fails. In those cases, the problem may be title-specific, entitlement-related, or service-side.
Before contacting support, record the exact code, title and edition, platform, Xbox or Windows version, account or subscription type, installation drive, time of failure, and whether another game installs successfully. Contact Xbox Support or Microsoft Support. If only one game is affected and platform services are operating normally, also contact the game publisher.

Does 0x87e0000d always mean Gaming Services is broken?
No. Gaming Services is one possible Windows dependency, but the same code can also appear with account, edition, compatibility, preload, storage, title-specific, or service-side problems.
Can changing my region fix 0x87e0000d?
It should not be used as a generic fix. Region changes can affect games, subscriptions, content, and account balances, and should reflect an actual move rather than bypass availability rules.
Why does the error affect only one game?
A one-title failure more often points toward that game’s release timing, edition, compatibility, entitlement, region availability, or a title-specific service problem than a general Store failure.
