To remove VALORANT completely from a Windows PC, close the Riot Client, uninstall Riot Vanguard and VALORANT separately, restart Windows, then delete the leftover Riot and VALORANT folders. This removes the local game installation and cache without deleting your Riot account, skins, purchases, or account-based progression.
The steps below follow Riot’s documented cleanup guidance. They apply to Windows 10 and Windows 11, although menu names can vary slightly between versions.

Before you uninstall
- Save any screenshots, recordings, clips, or custom files you want to keep.
- Close VALORANT, the Riot Client, and any other Riot games.
- Check whether you have another Riot game installed before deleting shared Riot Client folders.
- Do not delete the game folder before running the normal Windows uninstallers.
Riot says the Riot Client may need to be closed before Riot games can be uninstalled. Uninstalling local software does not delete your Riot account or account-based content.

Step 1: Close the Riot Client and VALORANT
- Look at the notification area on the right side of the taskbar. Select the hidden-icons arrow if necessary.
- Right-click the Riot icon and choose the available exit or close option.
- If Riot software remains open, press
Ctrl + Shift + Escto open Task Manager. - End only clearly identified Riot or VALORANT processes. Do not terminate unrelated Windows processes.
Step 2: Uninstall Riot Vanguard
VALORANT and Riot Vanguard are separate Windows installations, so removing the game alone may leave Vanguard installed. Riot’s support instructions list both as separate uninstall entries.

- This code is only redeemable on Riot Accounts in North America and Canada
- Press the Windows key.
- Search for Installed apps or Add or remove programs.
- Open the matching Windows settings page.
- Search for Riot Vanguard.
- Select the three-dot menu or the entry’s uninstall control, then choose Uninstall.
- Confirm the prompt and wait for the process to finish.
Windows may request administrator approval. Approve it only when you initiated the uninstall and recognize the Windows prompt.
Step 3: Uninstall VALORANT
- Return to the same installed-apps list.
- Find VALORANT.
- Select Uninstall and confirm.
- Wait until Windows finishes the operation.
If VALORANT is not listed, close the Riot Client again, restart Windows, and check the list once more. If the entry remains registered but cannot be removed, use Riot Support rather than deleting random system files.
Step 4: Restart your PC
Restart Windows after uninstalling both entries. Riot recommends restarting during its Vanguard and VALORANT uninstall/reinstall process, and a reboot may be needed before system-level components and locked files are released.

Step 5: Delete leftover installation folders
After restarting, check the folder where VALORANT was installed. Riot documents these common locations:
C:Riot GamesVALORANT
C:Riot GamesRiot Client
Delete the folders that belong to the installation you are removing, then send them to the Recycle Bin. The default location may not apply if you installed the game on another drive or chose a custom directory. In File Explorer, search for VALORANT, Riot Client, and Riot Games, but verify each result before deleting it.
Important: If League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, or another Riot title remains installed, do not delete a shared Riot Client folder unless you intend to remove that software too. Remove only the VALORANT-specific folder and relevant leftovers.

Step 6: Remove local AppData leftovers
- Press
Windows + Rto open the Run dialog. - Enter
%localappdata%and press Enter. - Delete the
Riot GamesandVALORANTfolders if they remain.
%localappdata% opens the current Windows user’s hidden Local AppData folder directly, so you do not need to browse through hidden directories manually. These folders may contain cache and configuration leftovers rather than the main game installation.

Empty the Recycle Bin only after confirming that you do not need any of the deleted files. Restart Windows again if files were in use, Riot processes reappeared, Vanguard still seems present, or you plan to reinstall VALORANT immediately.
How to confirm that VALORANT is completely removed
For normal practical purposes, the cleanup is complete when:
Rank #4
- VALORANT is absent from Windows’ installed-apps list.
- Riot Vanguard is absent from the list.
- The VALORANT installation folder is gone.
- The relevant
%localappdata%folders are gone. - No Riot or VALORANT process is running.
- No Riot tray icon remains, unless another Riot product is installed.
This is a practical clean removal, not a promise of forensic erasure. You do not need to edit the Windows Registry or manually delete driver files for a standard uninstall.

The uninstall button does nothing
- Exit the Riot Client from the notification area.
- Close clearly named Riot and VALORANT processes in Task Manager.
- Restart Windows.
- Try uninstalling Riot Vanguard and VALORANT again.
- If the problem continues, contact Riot Support.
Riot Vanguard is missing from Installed apps
It may already have been removed, or the installation registration may be incomplete. Restart the PC and check for leftover Riot folders. The absence of the entry alone does not prove that every Vanguard component has disappeared.

Windows says a folder is in use
Close the Riot Client, end clearly identified Riot or VALORANT processes, and restart Windows. Try deleting the folder before reopening Riot software. If it remains locked, use Windows Safe Mode or contact Riot Support. Do not manually delete files from C:WindowsSystem32drivers as a first-line fix.

Vanguard keeps coming back
Check whether another Riot game is installed or whether the Riot Client or another game reinstalled Vanguard. Deleting only the VALORANT folder does not necessarily remove shared Riot components.
VALORANT is gone but Riot Client remains
This can be normal if another Riot game is installed or if the Riot Client was installed separately. VALORANT is the game, Riot Client is the launcher, and Riot Vanguard is the anti-cheat component. Riot’s tray component may remain while other Riot products are installed.
Should you use a third-party uninstaller or registry cleaner?
Usually, no. Windows’ built-in uninstall tools and File Explorer are sufficient for the documented cleanup. Third-party uninstallers can over-delete shared Riot components, while registry cleaners and unverified service-deletion commands can create new problems. Avoid commands such as sc delete vgc or sc delete vgk unless Riot Support gives you current, situation-specific instructions.
How to reinstall VALORANT cleanly
Finish the uninstall, remove the documented leftovers, and restart the PC. Then download the installer from Riot’s official website and run it normally. If Vanguard fails to install or VALORANT still will not launch, follow Riot’s current troubleshooting guidance for cache cleanup, clean boot troubleshooting, firewall checks, Windows updates, or reinstalling Vanguard and the game.
Does uninstalling VALORANT delete your account or skins?
No. Uninstalling VALORANT removes local Windows software. It does not itself delete your Riot account, purchased content, skins, or account-based progression. Account deletion is a separate account-management action. Local settings and configuration files may be removed during cleanup, so do not assume every local preference will return after reinstalling.
For Riot’s current official instructions, see Riot’s VALORANT clean-uninstall guidance and its Vanguard and VALORANT support flow.
