Former Humble Games leaders Alan Patmore and Mark Nash have launched Balor Games, a new indie-publishing label, after their company acquired Ziff Davis’s Humble Games-related publishing business. The March 4, 2026 announcement also included Firestoke Games’ catalog and publishing rights to Fights in Tight Spaces. It was a publishing-business and rights transaction—not a reported purchase of Humble Bundle or the original Humble Games corporate entity.

What changed on March 4, 2026?

Good Games Group, formed in 2024 by former Humble Games leaders Alan Patmore and Mark Nash, announced Balor Games as its new publishing label. The group said it had acquired Ziff Davis’s game-publishing business related to Humble Games. Game Developer reported the transaction fee was undisclosed, and the available reporting does not establish a title-by-title breakdown of legal rights.

The deal also brought in Firestoke Games’ complete catalog and publishing rights to Fights in Tight Spaces. These additions are part of Balor’s announced publishing portfolio; they do not establish that Balor acquired ownership of every game’s underlying intellectual property. Game Developer reported the transaction and portfolio.

What happened to Humble Games—and is Humble Bundle included?

In July 2024, Ziff Davis laid off all 36 Humble Games employees, according to Engadget’s account. Later that year, Patmore and Nash formed Good Games Group. The company helped manage Humble’s back catalog and projects in development under a sublicensing arrangement; GamesIndustry.biz coverage surfaced in a Ground News aggregation describes that arrangement as backed by MEP Capital.

The subsequent transaction changed the publishing-business arrangement and placed the label under the Balor name. Humble Bundle is separate: Engadget reported that the storefront remained with Ziff Davis after the Humble Games publishing transaction. The announcement therefore should not be read as a sale of Humble Bundle or proof that the Humble Games corporate entity itself was purchased.

Which games and projects are in Balor’s portfolio?

Published portfolio estimates differ. Game Developer reported that Balor is custodian of over 60 indie titles; 80.lv described the portfolio as more than 50. Neither figure is an exact audited count, so the reports support a broad scale, not a precise total.

Game Developer named released titles including Slay the Spire, A Hat in Time, SIGNALIS, Forager, Coral Island, Monaco, and Wizard of Legend. In its interview with 80.lv, Balor also identified projects in development that came with the catalog, including Billie Bust Up, Threads of Time, Town of Zoz, and Wild Blue Skies. These examples span released games and ongoing projects; the portfolio figure should not be treated as a list of games all newly announced by Balor.

Why did the former leaders launch Balor?

Balor has framed the label as a continuation of relationships built while its founders worked with Humble Games, alongside a change in scale and focus. CEO Alan Patmore called the moment a “reunion” for developers the team had worked with and described the label as a “seal of quality for independent games,” according to Engadget.

In its interview with 80.lv, Balor said many studio relationships were already underway through sublicensing from 2024, while others represented a return to prior partnerships. Mark Nash told Game Developer that Balor intends to selectively invest in new projects and is accepting pitches. The company says its approach will emphasize lifecycle support, community building, and commercial strategy across platforms and regions. Those are stated plans, not independently verified results.

What the transaction does—and does not—establish

  • Established: Good Games Group acquired the Humble Games-related publishing business, added Firestoke Games’ complete catalog, and acquired publishing rights to Fights in Tight Spaces.
  • Not established in the cited coverage: the fee, complete legal terms, a precise audited portfolio count, or the allocation of intellectual-property ownership for each game.
  • Separate: Humble Bundle’s storefront remained under Ziff Davis, according to Engadget.
