How do I identify which program is requesting fortiamsi.dll?

Reinstall only through the publisher’s official route
An official reinstall replaces the application’s complete dependency set rather than placing one unknown file into a system folder. Before uninstalling, check the vendor’s instructions for saved profiles, activation information, plug-ins, and project files. After installation, restart Windows if the installer requests it, then test the application before adding optional extensions.

Fortinet has documented a different Windows 11 startup problem in which FortiTray.exe reports a missing mfc140u.dll; that report identifies the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable as the relevant dependency. mfc140u.dll is a different file and a different report, so installing that runtime is not a confirmed remedy for fortiamsi.dll.
If your captured dialog clearly identifies FortiClient, use Fortinet’s official downloads and support route for the applicable FortiClient edition and version. Product editions and available downloads can change. Do not infer a fix for this filename from the separate mfc140u.dll guidance.

How do I repair Windows 11 or Windows 10 system files?
When the requester is unclear, several Windows components are failing, or corruption is otherwise plausible, Microsoft documents a two-command sequence: run DISM first, then System File Checker. DISM services and repairs the Windows image; SFC checks protected system files using that repaired image. These are general Windows repair commands, not proof that Windows owns or will restore fortiamsi.dll.
Run DISM from an elevated Command Prompt
- Save work and sign in with an account that can approve administrator actions.
- Open Start, type
Command Prompt, right-click it, and select Run as administrator. Approve the User Account Control prompt. - At the elevated prompt, enter
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealthand press Enter. - Let the operation finish. DISM may obtain repair content from Windows Update. Do not close the window or power off the computer while the command is working.
- If Windows Update cannot provide the required content, Microsoft’s guidance allows an administrator to specify an alternate repair source. Use only a source that matches the installed Windows edition and build and follow Microsoft’s documented syntax; do not point DISM at a random download.
DISM is a command-line tool used to service and repair Windows images, including the Windows Recovery Environment, Windows Setup, and Windows PE (WinPE). A completed operation means the image servicing step finished; it does not confirm that a third-party application’s private DLL has been restored.

- Keep the same elevated Command Prompt open.
- Enter
sfc /scannowand press Enter. - Wait for verification to reach 100 percent. SFC may report that it found no integrity violations, repaired corrupted files, or could not repair some files. Record the exact result rather than assuming the command fixed the application.
- Restart Windows after the scan, even if no repair was reported.
After the restart, reproduce the original action: open the named application, sign in, or perform the installation step that raised the dialog. If the message is unchanged, return to the application publisher with the product version, complete error text, and the DISM and SFC results.
What should I do if the dialog appears during Windows startup?
A startup dialog can be generated by an application that launches automatically, an incomplete uninstall, or a component that Windows cannot load. Because the filename has no verified publisher association, avoid disabling random startup entries or deleting files based solely on the name.

- Use that publisher’s official repair or uninstall-and-reinstall instructions. If the program is no longer wanted, complete its supported uninstall rather than deleting its folder.

Could security software or a quarantine event be involved?
Yes, a recently removed or quarantined file is one possible explanation, but the DLL name alone cannot show whether that happened. Open the security product’s quarantine or protection history and check the timestamp against the first appearance of the error.
