Yes—Epic announced that Fortnite OG would return on December 6, 2024, as an “always on, every day” mode. It brought back Fortnite Battle Royale’s Chapter 1 island, loot and gameplay, but “permanent” described the mode’s availability, not an unchanging map or an endless season. Epic’s retrieved updates establish the launch and several later seasonal changes; they do not confirm which OG season, playlist or map state is live on October 8, 2026.
What Epic meant by “permanent”
On December 5, 2024, Epic Games announced that Fortnite OG would return the next day as an “always on, every day” mode. That changed OG from a limited-time event into a persistent mode. The announcement did not promise that one season, map state or playlist would remain unchanged indefinitely. Epic’s announcement

The original island was the map Fortnite Battle Royale launched with in 2017. Epic described OG as a return to Chapter 1 locations, loot and gameplay, with content progressing through early Chapter 1 seasons. The mode’s first season still had a set end date, and later OG seasons and limited-time playlists had their own schedules.
What Fortnite OG brought back—and what it kept
At launch, Epic said Fortnite OG would begin with Chapter 1 Season 1 and move through early Chapter 1 content. Seasons were planned to be shorter than those in the then-current Battle Royale, with loot pools and features changing over time. The announcement listed Solos, Squads and Zero Build as launch options. These are launch details, not a guarantee of today’s lineup. Epic’s launch details

OG was not described as an exact recreation of the 2017 game client. Epic said contemporary building mechanics would remain, along with sprinting, sliding, mantling, door bashing and moving while healing. The launch announcement also mentioned Reboot Vans, sniper-scope glare and a 999 maximum building-resource cap; it said double pump was enabled “for now.” Those details describe the announced launch experience, not necessarily the current rules.
How the mode changed after launch
Epic’s earlier Fortnite OG event, announced November 3, 2023, was a limited-time Chapter 4 season that revisited phases of Chapter 1. The December 2024 announcement established a different availability model: a persistent OG mode. Epic’s 2023 announcement

Subsequent official updates show that persistent did not mean static. In March 2025, Epic announced Chapter 1 Season 3 content, including Lucky Landing, as well as OG 50v50. That 50v50 playlist was explicitly limited through April 14 at 9 a.m. ET. Epic’s Season 3 announcement
Epic later scheduled Chapter 1 Season 5 for August 7 through October 3, 2025, Eastern Time, featuring locations including Paradise Palms and Lazy Links. Its 45-tier OG Pass cost 1,000 V-Bucks or was included with Fortnite Crew; those terms applied to that historical pass, not to a current offer. Epic’s Season 5 announcement

Is Fortnite OG still available now?
The official Fortnite OG news index retrieved for this article lists the August 7, 2025 Season 5 announcement as its latest OG-tagged article. That does not establish the live mode or season on October 8, 2026. The available official record therefore supports the historical claim that Epic made OG a persistent mode, but not a definitive statement about its current availability, map, loot pool, season or playlists.
