Others liked the movement options it offered. Epic vaulted the Hover Jets on October 15, but its announcement did not say the change was made in response to those comments.
Why some players wanted the Hover Jets removed
In Reddit discussions on October 12, players complained that Avengers equipment made Fortnitemares’ new items feel less useful. One commenter put the request plainly: “Definitely should of vaulted the Jet Packs for Fortnitemares.” Others argued that War Machine’s gear outclassed the event’s weapons and items. These are examples from individual threads, not evidence of a community-wide consensus or a representative poll. One discussion focused on Avengers items overshadowing Fortnitemares gear; another compared the event’s new items with the mobility advantage of the Jets.
The disagreement came down to competing priorities: some players wanted seasonal items to have more room to matter, while others enjoyed the mobility and combinations the Jets enabled. The comments show how those players felt about the matchup, not an objective balance finding.
What Fortnitemares 2024 added
Epic announced Fortnitemares 2024 on October 12. The event brought in new items such as Boom Billy and the Chainsaw, returned the Witch Broom, Wood Stake Shotgun, and Pumpkin Launcher, and brought back Horde Rush. Epic’s initial announcement also said Shuri’s Black Panther Claws were vaulted to make room for new and unvaulted items. Epic’s Fortnitemares 2024 announcement lists the event additions.

War Machine’s Hover Jets were part of the broader War Machine loadout, alongside the Arsenal and Auto Turret. In a September 17 announcement, Epic described the Jets as a way to “dominate the battlefield from above” and said War Machine items appeared in Battle Royale and Zero Build through Stark Mobile Armories. That is Epic’s promotional description, not an independent assessment of how balanced the item was. Epic’s announcement of the War Machine loadout explains where the gear appeared.
Epic vaulted the Hover Jets on October 15
Epic updated its Fortnitemares announcement on October 15 with this statement: “War Machine’s Hover Jets have been vaulted, and Shuri’s Black Panther Claws are now back in the loot pool.” The update confirms both changes. It does not give a reason for vaulting the Jets or say the decision was a response to Reddit criticism.

In Fortnite, “vaulted” means an item has been made unavailable after being released; Epic’s developer documentation lists several general reasons an item might be vaulted, including balance, limited-time availability, or glitches. It does not identify which reason applied to the Hover Jets. Epic’s Vault documentation explains the term generally.

“Jetpack” was understandable shorthand in player comments, but the item at issue was officially named War Machine’s Hover Jets. The distinction matters because Fortnite has featured other jetpack-style items; the October 15 update specifically names War Machine’s Hover Jets as the item Epic vaulted.
