At D23 in August 2024, Disney previewed Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Captain Hook for Fortnite, announced The Incredibles as its first Pixar content for the game, and revealed that Doctor Doom would headline Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 5, Season 4: Absolute Doom. The villains and Pixar content were then expected later that fall; the season was set to begin August 16, 2024. Those dates are historical, not evidence that the content is available now.
What Disney announced for Fortnite at D23
Disney presented the reveals during its D23 showcase on August 10, 2024, with a recap published the next day. The showcase drew more than 1.3 million concurrent players watching in Fortnite, according to the Disney Parks Blog.
Disney Animation villains: Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Captain Hook
Disney said the three villains would become the first Disney Animation characters to join Fortnite, with a broad expected window of “later this Fall.” The announcement did not give individual release dates for the characters.
Pixar: The Incredibles
Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter previewed The Incredibles as the first Pixar content planned for Fortnite, also expected later in fall 2024. Disney did not announce a specific launch date in its post.

Star Wars: IG-11, Moff Gideon, and Grogu
The showcase also previewed Star Wars characters and items, including IG-11, Moff Gideon, and a new Grogu Back Bling that Disney said was expected the following week. That was a 2024 forecast, not a statement about current availability.
When did Fortnite’s Doctor Doom season start?
Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 5, Season 4: Absolute Doom began Friday, August 16, 2024, according to Disney and D23’s showcase coverage. Its cinematic and gameplay trailer introduced Doctor Doom, the Fantastic Four villain at the center of the season.
Epic later documented season-specific Doom quests, rewards, and limited-time gameplay. Its season post said owners of the Absolute Doom Battle Pass could earn rewards including Doom’s Outfit and the Doomblade Pickaxe through quests available until November 2, 2024, at 2 a.m. ET. The post listed October 5, 2024, at 1 p.m. ET as the revised end time for the Isle of Doom. Both deadlines have passed; they do not establish whether any related item later returned to the shop or is available today.

How the reveals fit Disney and Epic’s larger plan
The Fortnite announcements were presented as part of a broader Disney-Epic collaboration, not as the launch of a fully connected Disney game world. In February 2024, Epic described plans for an open, persistent, social games and entertainment universe that would interoperate with Fortnite and encompass Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and other properties. The proposed experience was to let people play, watch, shop, engage with content, and create and share stories.
Disney’s August 2024 article described that experience as still a few years away. The announcement established an ambition and a planned direction; it did not confirm that the connected universe had since launched. Epic also said in February 2024 that Disney announced a $1.5 billion investment to acquire an equity stake in Epic, subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Epic’s announcement described Fortnite as having more than 100 million active players and creators at that time; that February 2024 company figure is not a current player count.
