Epic’s mobile Epic Games Store launched on August 16, 2024, bringing Fortnite, Fall Guys and Rocket League Sideswipe to Android worldwide and to iPhone users in the European Union. That was not a global iPhone return: U.S. iPhone users could not install Fortnite through Epic’s store at launch. As of August 18, 2026, the picture has changed: Epic’s store is available on Android worldwide, iPhone in the EU and Japan, and iPad in the EU. Fortnite is also listed by Epic as available through the U.S. App Store and Google Play.
What Epic launched in August 2024
Epic launched a mobile storefront, not just a standalone Fortnite app. The Epic Games Store was free to install and initially offered Fortnite, Fall Guys and Rocket League Sideswipe. The games were free to download and play, with optional in-game purchases. Epic described the mobile store as a marketplace it intended to expand; its current page says third-party games are available on Android globally and on iPhone and iPad in the EU. Epic’s installation page and mobile-store page have the current download and availability details.
The distinction matters if you search for Fortnite on a phone: Epic’s separate Epic Games mobile app is a companion app for account, security and social features; it is not the mobile game storefront.
Where the store was available then—and where it is now
The August 2024 launch was a different proposition on Android and Apple devices. Epic’s current regional information, checked August 18, 2026, shows that the original iPhone restriction has since changed, but the Epic Games Store is still not available on Apple devices everywhere.

Epic’s mobile-store page, iOS and iPadOS availability support page and mobile app page describe the current status. “Worldwide” on Android is not literally universal: Epic notes legal restrictions and additional regional requirements.
Why the 2024 iPhone launch was limited to the EU
Apple’s opening of alternative app marketplaces in the European Union under the Digital Markets Act made Epic’s EU iPhone launch possible. It did not mean Apple had opened iOS distribution worldwide. In August 2024, Apple’s restrictions remained in place in the United States and most other markets, while Android users could install apps outside Google Play by approving a third-party installation.

The conflict followed Apple’s removal of Fortnite from the App Store in August 2020, after Epic attempted to bypass Apple’s in-app payment rules. Epic argued that platform rules and installation steps made competition difficult; Apple and Google disputed aspects of Epic’s criticism. The contemporaneous account in Gizmodo’s August 16, 2024 report describes the launch and dispute. The EU rollout was a regional regulatory change, not a worldwide reversal of Apple’s policies.
How to install Epic’s mobile store
Android
- Open Epic’s official Android download page and download the Epic Games Store installer.
- If Android blocks the installation or warns about the file, open the system setting for the source you used and allow installation from Epic Games Store or that selected source. Menu names vary by Android device.
- Finish installing the store, open it and sign in to your Epic account.
- Choose Fortnite in the store and download it. The storefront’s small download is not the amount of storage Fortnite, its updates and game assets need.
Use Epic’s own domain rather than an APK mirror or a search advertisement. Epic lists Android 8 / SDK 26 as the store’s minimum on its current Android page; its system-requirements page recommends Android 14 / SDK 34 or later for optimal performance. Epic’s pages have not always used identical minimum-version wording, so check the download page for the current requirement before installing.

iPhone and iPad in supported regions
- On a supported device in a supported region, open Epic’s iOS download page in Safari and select Install.
- Follow the marketplace installation prompt. When directed, open Settings and approve the marketplace permission, shown by Epic as Allow Apps from Epic Games Inc. or equivalent wording.
- Return to Safari and confirm installation, then open the Epic Games Store and sign in.
Apple’s marketplace prompts and settings differ by iOS or iPadOS version, so this is not one universal sequence for every device. Epic’s installation support instructions give the version-specific flow. Epic recommends Safari; using another browser can prevent the expected prompt from appearing.
Device requirements and account continuity
- Android: Epic’s current mobile-store page lists Android 8 / SDK 26 or later; Epic recommends Android 14 / SDK 34 or later for optimal performance.
- EU iPhone: iOS 17.6 or later.
- EU iPad: iPadOS 18 or later.
- Japan iPhone: iOS 26.2 or later. Epic lists Brazil as planned, with iOS 26.5 or later on its support information; the Brazil rollout is not yet listed as live.
- Store size: approximately 25 MB. This is the storefront app, not Fortnite’s full storage requirement.
These requirements come from Epic’s mobile-store page, system requirements and installation troubleshooting page, checked August 18, 2026. Epic says existing Epic accounts can be used and Fortnite and Fall Guys support cross-platform progression. Sign in with the same account used on other platforms to access account-linked progression and purchases. Consider enabling two-factor authentication in your Epic account; Epic identifies account security tools, but does not make 2FA a general storefront installation requirement.

What the U.S. change does—and does not—mean
At the 2024 launch, U.S. Android users could install Fortnite through Epic’s store, while U.S. iPhone users could not install that store or Fortnite through it. Cloud gaming and other workarounds were not native Fortnite installations. Epic’s current mobile app page lists Fortnite on both the U.S. App Store and Google Play. That is a change in Fortnite’s U.S. distribution, separate from the Epic Games Store’s regional availability on Apple devices.

- The download page says the store is unavailable: Check the country and device type. Epic’s Apple storefront is limited by region, and iPhone and iPad availability differ.
- Your device is rejected: Compare its OS version with the requirement for your platform and region above.
- The Apple permission prompt does not appear: Follow Epic’s version-specific troubleshooting steps. Epic recommends retrying installation, restarting the device, waiting several minutes, or clearing Safari data if the marketplace prompt does not appear.
- You installed the wrong Epic app: The Epic Games companion app does not contain the mobile game store. Start from Epic’s official mobile-store download page.
- You found an APK elsewhere: Do not use an unofficial mirror. Download the installer from Epic’s official Android page to reduce the risk of a modified file or account theft.
