If Foxhole keeps crashing on PC, first note when it happens and the exact error message. Then update Windows and your graphics drivers and compare your hardware with Foxhole’s published Steam requirements. For a crash after extended play, a server-join “D3D device being lost” error, a failed prerequisite install, or a connection and file-access problem, use the matching steps below. Foxhole’s official guidance addresses particular symptoms; no single fix is guaranteed for every crash.
1. Identify when Foxhole crashes
Before changing settings, record whether the crash happens at startup, after playing for a while, while joining a server, or when connecting to or accessing game files. Copy the exact wording of any error dialog. Foxhole support describes distinct remedies for a Fatal Error after extended play and a D3D device-lost error on server join, so the timing and message matter.
2. Compare your PC with Foxhole’s requirements
Steam lists the following PC requirements for Foxhole; its listing was checked on 8 October 2026.

3. Update Windows and your graphics drivers
Foxhole’s official support recommends keeping Windows and video-card drivers up to date. Install available updates, restart the PC, and then try the same action that triggered the crash. This is the general first step; later steps apply when the timing or error points to a more specific cause.
4. Fatal Error after playing for a while: disable GPU overclocking software
If Foxhole runs for a while and then displays “Fatal Error,” Foxhole support recommends disabling GPU overclocking software, naming MSI Gaming App as an example. This is advice for that reported symptom, not proof that overclocking causes every Foxhole crash.

5. D3D device-lost error while joining a server: update drivers and restart
If a server join ends with “Unreal Engine is exiting due to d3d device being lost,” Foxhole support identifies GPU or driver incompatibility as a possible cause. Update the graphics driver and restart. If the error persists, the support page says the GPU may be incompatible; check your actual hardware and the error context before considering any hardware change.
6. Failed Visual C++ or DirectX prerequisite: repair the prerequisite
Use this branch when a Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 or DirectX prerequisite prompt fails, rather than as a catch-all fix for unrelated crashes.

- Install Windows updates and current graphics drivers, then restart.
- Reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 x86 and x64 runtimes, using Microsoft’s downloads or the game’s bundled
_CommonRedistfiles. - Restart and try launching Foxhole again.
For possible Windows system-library corruption, Foxhole support also lists sfc /scannow. Run it from an administrator Command Prompt. The support page gives this in a system-library troubleshooting context, not as a first-line step for every crash.
7. Connection or file-access trouble: check security software and Steam files
If the problem involves connecting or accessing required files, Foxhole support says antivirus software may interfere with files downloaded from its cloud services. Check your antivirus and firewall settings and allow Foxhole as appropriate. The support page also suggests verifying the game files through Steam; this can address damaged or missing local files, but does not establish that every crash is caused by file corruption.

Foxhole support mentions temporarily disabling firewall or antivirus protection only as an at-your-own-risk test. Prefer checking permissions and allow-list settings; do not leave security protection disabled.

Include the exact error text, when the crash occurs, and which troubleshooting steps you have already tried. The support page does not provide a complete current log-collection checklist.

The official support guidance was last updated on 7 January 2025, so it may not cover every later game build. Find it at Foxhole support. A player report about an Unreal Engine crash is also available on Steam Community, but it is anecdotal and does not validate a fix.
